    Tl250 Don't Idle

My TL250 has stock carb, retarded ignition timing and will continue to rev until the valves start to float!
  3. In ITSA competition, those mods would move you from "Historic Twinshock" into "Modern Twinshock"... In "Modern Twinshock" "anything goes" as long as it has twin shocks, air cooled engine and drum brakes... Murray

    Tl 250 Project

Bikes...or side covers... I had three bikes (sold some bits...), now down to two...one runner and a TMI (project)...never had more than one running at any one time...I know of five others... Murray
  5. In all of Bob Ginder's ITSA events...stop and balance is allowed, itsa skill afterall (pun intended...). Put a foot down while stopped and itsa 5...backing up is also a 5... Murray
  6. I, too, would like to thank Ed and his wife for their Herculean effort in trying to get AHRMA back into Trials, however, it seems that AHRMA
  7. Well...after seeing the 2009 schedule, I will add my $0.02... In the 2008 season, only 9 of 25 events were held east of the Mississippi and of those 9 only 1 was held at a site less than 8 hours drive from my home in Western NC... In the 2009 season...6 of 21 events are being held east of the Big Muddy and again only 1 less than 8 hours away...So I must ask myself..."what's the point?" I will not be renewing my membership in AHRMA for 2009... Murray

    1976 Tl 250

Hey there Alpine, B&J Racing (in the US) got me an aftermarket pipe for mine, and I did see a stock head pipe on ebay recently...I think B&J gets theirs from Europe somewhere...worth a call maybe...In utter desperation I have an old, aftermarket pipe that might be repairable (by a good welder, it is crimped a bit in the front bend...) Murray
  9. Good Deal! I live in Lenoir and ride twinshock and would love to be able to help out any way I can... Murray
  10. Sent an email to Ed Peacock at AHRMA when I read that his proposal contained a cut off date of 1985...which leaves out the Honda Reflex...he said it was too late to change the proposal... Oh well... Murray
  11. Dude! don't sell yourself short...we all know what it's like to try and get enough volunteers to pull off an event like that...you did a GREAT job considering what you had to work with! I was also one of those who chose not to ride on Sunday due to having to spend most of the day packing up for the 500 mile drive home...perhaps they could hold the PV mx on Saturday and run the trials on Saturday or get the Track to let us stay Sunday night and leave on Monday morning...you might even get more spectators by running it on Saturday...anyway...YOU did a great job! Murray
  12. Well done Biff! Congatulations. But since it has been 2 years since I rode in a trials that used checkers (they have all been "peer" scoring), does AHRMA just count your best loop score or was this a case of (as I was told by an AHRMA rider some years ago) "If the checker dosen't see it...don't tell them!" (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I saw at least 3 points from the gallery). Myself, I am burdened with a truely sick sense of honesty...I will just as quickly argue a clean as a five... Be that as it may, 2 is what got scored, and 2 is what went down in the record books...well played! Murray
  13. As I understand it the measurement is taken just as the tang touches the needle...not as the needle starts to "move"...at least that's the way I do it... Murray
  14. 25mm from the carb body to the lower edge of float... Hope that helps... Murray
  15. You can also try www.hondarestoration.com as they have a pretty extensive "parts finder" (searches several outlets in usa and eur all at once). Murray
  16. Hello Ken... Soooo...you got a TL250...I'm sorry!... Just kidding...I love mine, I jokingly call it my Suburban...it takes a 5 acre field to turn it around in, but it will take you anywhere you want to go! I've been riding one for 5 yeras now...here is a pic... If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know! Murray
  17. I retarded the ignition timing on my TL250 and managed to get rid of that pesky "off Idle" caugh...but can't see any way of doing that on the TLR, the ignition timing is preset... But also don't seem to have that same trouble either...just haven't ridden it enough yet to know... M
  18. Dear Slapshot3... How did you retard the timing on the TLR...? Murray Gray

    Tlr 200

Sam... I recently had to sort this one out myself...so here goes... First I took everything off...you are left with 2 wire bundles coming from the stator cover...2 wires (with 1 connector) from the pick up coil (keep them as they are since they connect directly to the CDI box) and a second bundle with 5 wires (yellow, pink, white with yellow stripe, green with red stripe and black with red stripe) the only one you NEED is the black with red stripe (I simply tied back the others, but have seen them clipped at the case...). Now...Black with red stripe goes to black with red band at CDI box, clip from pick up coil to clip from CDI box, black with white band to kill switch, coil connections stay as they are, green from CDI box to ground (earth for you guys...), green from kill switch to ground, and thats it! If this has been too confusing, I could try to draw it out for you... Hope this helps... Murray Gray

    Mid-ohio

Hello Group... My goodness, but just where to start...I've been lurking here for some time and I guess now it's time to participate...some... I'm Murray Gray (in Modern classic Novice on Alan's list of the Mid O Trials) I've been riding AHRMA and ITSA since 2002. First I would like to thank all of those involved with putting on the event at Mid O...GREAT job, the rain really made it a good challenge, I rode the sections Saturday afternoon and with the dryer conditions there would have been a lot of ties for lower places...as it turned out it was fun. I started riding in AHRMA Trials because they offered a "Beginner" class, which, starting in my late forties, I was grateful for. Bob, and therefore ITSA, doesn't believe in a Beginner line and won't have one...however in the few (2) of Bob's "Scottish Format" Trials I have ridden in, at least 5 for the 10 sections were "beginner" level... AHRMA used to have a message forum, even had a section on Trials...fell by the wayside...I even tried once to get them to add a "Twin Shock" class and the addition of a champion line...something about deaf ears... Bif...good to meet you, BTW, I've ridden with your Dad for years...Great guy! One year at Dickson TN, I watched Curt Comer ride that big BSA of his in the Modern Classic Expert Class...1 line...and cleaned EVERYBODY'S clock...go for it! As for Mid O...I will continue to go just because it's Mid O, I would like to see it become a 2 day national, but...well...what ever... The Trial's at Dickson (ITSA championship AND AHRMA National AND STRA National) will be (according to Bob) held in the "Scottish Format" (no split lines) both days, adding 5 more lines for the "PI" crowd... AHRMA vs ITSA...I'm like Alan here...I say do both... Murray

    Exhaust Paint

Gordon; I have found that any of the "high heat" paints will work, but the trick is to clean the pipe really well with acetone of some similar solvent before you paint... Hope this helps Murray
  22. As a lurker, , I can tell you this is the most active group of Honda Trails riders I have found yet...I do hope nothing happens to it... Murray Gray
