Earl shilton is good, worth the journey (I’m also in Wolverhampton)
They are holding a trial this weekend, it might be worth popping over for a look, they also have a very easy route for beginners!
-
You could try Shatterford Bewdley, its £10 per bike. good place to practice
-
I’m thinking about using one, not for support, just to hide the beer belly!
-
Don’t bother with old plugs, you’ll just waste your time
Buy a couple of new ones & make sure you set the gap correctly
-
-
It doesn’t say a lot for the quality if they can’t get the holes in the right place!
-
I’ve always run on 50:1 on modern LC bikes & 40:1 on air cooled
Never had a problem with smoke of plugs fouling
(I use a about 30:1 on my mx bike without a problem)
-
Does anyone know what the static sag (race sag) should be on the rear shocks of twinshock
I’ve put on a few pounds just lately and I seem to be squashing the rear of my bike down quite a lot!
-
Kawasaki got it right
'Let the good times roll'
-
-
Just fitted one of the stators, and I seem to be getting a nice big spark!
I’ll time it up tomorrow, hopefully it will run
-
I’ve just dug my Montesa vr250 out for a blast, only to find the motorplat stator has failed!
I have a box full of motorplat stators but they all have an arrow pointing anti-clockwise, the montesa runs clock-wise! (would it still be possible to still use one?)
Failing that has anyone ever used Bradford ignitions for a repair?
-
I’d use 40:1 that’s what I use in my beamish (Castrol TTS or Silkolene Comp2) but the subject is open to much debate!
I've never had a problem or smoke @ 40:1 & my bore still looks like new

Nothing like a self ob trial for driving new riders away!
Casual riders should have to provide an observer if they don’t have a licence
Should riders expect someone else to do all the work all the time?
Maybe the sport could do without those sort of riders?
-
It looks very much like a Suzuki beamish frame, so I guessing it’s a Whitlock frame?
I would be interesting to know more about it, was it Alan Wright’s?
-
I think it should be compulsory for riders to observe 2 or 3 trials a year, if you don’t you should be refused a licence the following year & black listed
Surely its not that much to ask riders, after all it keeps the sport going?

-
But the other two cubs from the bath club in 90’s (riding no's: 86 & 87) seem to be covered in billet parts & modern suspension?
-
You need an SVA to manufacture, or an IVA inspection if you build your own, or low quantities
but you can always do what technowaldo says suggests ...
-
Trailers now need to be SVA approved – if you build your own it will need a IVA inspection
Thanks to the EU!
-
Its hard to find anywhere to practice now, without breaking the law
And nobody seems willing to give you permission in case they end up getting sued
-
And how expensive amd unpractical would the spot be if there were no new parts available?
It was all right in the 80’s & 90’s lots of parts still around, but not now
Just have a look what a rough cub engine costs or a 3TA!
With reference to the original thread: If you have a look at a few other photos, plenty of Renthal bars, marzocchi & NJB shocks...ect around in the 90’s!
These would not be eligible for the “original class” as suggested
-
Some people still having fun, at A BMCA Trial
Look at those very nice trials bikes
-
before the 'Me, Me, Me...' generation took over?
Yes, because we all know how depressing modern trials & modern pre65 trials are…
Now get those rose tinted glasses out and knock the people how still ride excellent well prepaired classic machines!
