  1. Maintenance is the key word, when buying ask the owner how often they change the oil and filter, ask how they do it, if they've never done it, they won't know the technique required!!!
  2. I'd say if well maintained, should be very reliable. The "tea bag" filter on the fuel pump can be the main source of problems, if they get clogged up. Also on older bikes, the fuel pump mount base (made of steel), can rust inside, again clogging the fuel pump filter (I've always used an aviation fuel filter, when refilling the tank, this filters out any particles or water in the fuel).

No problem Franck, nice to see some more photos of your bike.

Wow half the weight of the original frame. Love the rear caliper, work of art Franck. Would you be interested in making the brake caliper and selling them?

Wow Franck, that's one trick frame, what does it weight, about 4kg? I've looked at your bike, awesome work you do, have you ever thought about making and selling some of the parts you make? I'd be particularly interested in the rear brake setup you have. Look forward to your future post on your RTL. Keep them coming, plenty of us out here would like to see and read about your bike. Cheers
  6. Thanks for your replays guys. Friend offered advice to dip the part in hot water, let it warm up, then gently tap it out with a small punch, worked a treat. Barfy, maybe you could use a very small amount of loctite, to secure the pin.
  7. I'm currently cleaning and servicing the Keihin carb on my 1988 Honda RTL 250S. I'm going to use an Ultrasonic cleaner, so I'm stripping the carb down, removing the jets etc. I want to remove the float, as I believe these can be damaged by the ultrasonic, making them leak. However I am stumped on how to get the retaining pin out. I've tried but can't budge it and don't want to damage the float or anything else trying. Does anybody have any experience of removing the pin, on a Keihin PW 24. Cheers
  8. To be fair, I think your be happy with either model, but the Repsol certainly has it over the standard bike on the looks department. Your money goes towards the better components and the extras, carbon fibre parts etc.

I don't personaly know the Mighty Mitani San, but one would guess the Japenese don't have such an issue of bike theft, with their respectful culture. My RTL is current in a million parts (well maybe not a million, but it looks like that), but hope to have up together, sometime after Crimbo hopefully. ;-)
  10. Prison sentence for stolen bikes in the UK, you must be joking. UK Police have little or no time for LOW priority bike theft I'm afraid to say. There is a UKgov petition that's running at the moment, that if it gets enough support, will hopefully make this a bigger issue to be dealt with! As for Alex, hope something happens for you chap, keep our fingers crossed for you. You might want say which area its stolen from and engine and frame number might help, as already suggested above.

    Vertigo Launch

I don't understand all the arguments over this bike and that bike etc. Although I may never buy a Vertigo, I rejoice the fact that some individuals, had the passion and balls, to go ahead and make this bike. The economics are beyond me, but the manufacturers do as they wish, it's their buisness. We can only hope they will make something we want and can afford. A lot of people may go on about budget bikes, but as has already been said, when the crunch comes to the crunch, most don't buy them, because they don't meet their expectations of a bike. Unfortunately the number of Trials bike that are built, they will never be that cheap. What the new Vertigo will do, is make other manufacturers think, we look forward to what the future may bring in new designs. I wish Vertigo all the best, hope we get to see a Brit riding one, in the WTC or BTC.
  12. Apparently size is everything, well thats what we keep being told by the modern women. 10cc's can get get you into an awful lot of trouble. ;-)
  13. ONO = Or nearest offer. OVNO = Or very nearest offer. ;-)
  14. Don't take offence Johnny, jj65 has just sold his mint 14 Repsol, so knows what the current rate is at the moment. ;-) A dealer is offering £5000 to buy, so private, they have to be worth atleast another £500 to £750, however, it does depend on the condition and any extras.

    Vertigo Launch

Looks ok, I'm sure the guys at Vertigo are proud of their new bike. Sure it will ride real good, but I think the rear mudguard looks a bit old fashion. Good luck to them though, hope they succeed.
  16. Have a read of this, might help you decide. http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/48003-exhaust-4-rt-mitani-termignoni-or-original/
  17. Don't just buy new decals for your mudguard, they are very difficult to fit properly, due to the shape of the mudguard. If you can afford it, get a used or new one with the decals already fitted.

Interesting choice of music! But nice to see the RTL being ridden, nice one Jitta. I like this treasure chest of RTL's (as well as a few other rare bikes), at Mr Mitani's place.
  20. The 88 and 89 RTL's have a steeper steering angle (as well as many other improvements, including the front forks, the Prolink and the rear shock length), so HRC did improve the model through its production life. When it comes to modifications, I think it's a very personal thing. I always think it's worth trying, but so long as it can be reversed to original spec if required, so chopping the frame is quite drastic, unless you have a spare frame. However, I will be doing the footrest mod.

    H&d Racing

Also bought stuff from Mark over the years, excellent service as always.
  22. Sorry to hear that Matt, what area were they stolen in?
  23. Good luck mate in the return of your bike. Hope the low life's get their just deserves sometime soon. I wish the ACU and the AMCA were more pro active concerning stolen bikes, they could do random bike checks at events, but it seems their is no will to do this. By the way, you can insure Trials bike even if they aren't registered, it's not that expensive and highly recommended. Hope your bike turns up sometime soon Huzza.

    2015 Montesa's

OZ, don't worry mate, the Showa suspension is known for taking a while to brake in. Enjoy.
  25. Easy to deal with, cover your fuel tank with masking tape or gaffer tape, before putting cover on. It will not scratch the tank then and you won't be able to see the tape under the cover. Job done.
