  1. New fuel pump, more power, new fuel maps, new silencer outlet, new Showa rear shock. All sound good to me. Honda not quite ready, to commit to the all new model. ;-)
  2. Jack I feel for you mate. Stunning bike, which I believe Mark in Australia built. I really do hope you get it back, it's a very distinctive bike, so who ever has it, not likely to be able to sell it in the UK. I also hope the lowlife get their collars felt, by either the Police or some vigilantes.
  3. Stay off the tabs and go on the "Titanium diet", you won't be able to afford to eat and the weight will just drop off yourself and the bike. ;-)
  4. Will do that for you Joe, when I get home from work tomorrow. Edit: sorry, just realised yours is an 85 drum brake model, mines a disk 88, so it won't be correct.

    Rtl Oil Cooler

Look there's no need to make this personal, let's keep to the original subject please, thank you.

    Rtl Oil Cooler

Cheers jkmr1, very helpful, I know quite a few people who are contemplating fitting an oil cooler, including myself, so thanks for very helpful info. You may or may not remember, I was very interested in your bike, unfortunately, due to your location, I wimped out of buying it, but hopefully it went to a good home. Your bike build, as well as a few others, really got me thinking, so thank you for giving me the inspiration needed to do mine (although I'm learning it can be quite frustrating at times, but also very rewarding). :-) Cheers.

    Rtl Oil Cooler

Great picture Jkmr1, explains the oil hose connection perfectly. I see from the 89 manual, that it suggest a blanking plug should be used, Did you use one on yours?

    Rtl Oil Cooler

Also the oil cooler JJ65 has, weighs virtually nothing and the added benefit of extra cooling and oil capacity is surely worth while. Sometime people do things that are not strictly necessary, but they do it because they want to, or because you can. Nowt wrong with that. Franck, I believe when Jkmr1 was building his bike, he was finding it very difficult to source a suitable oil cooler, so I guess that was the only one he could find at the time and it was too big to fit in between the frame down tubes. I like your setup and it looks like JJ65 has found a similar cooler to yours, although yours has only 4 cooling vanes channels (sorry don't know what these are called), where as JJ65's has 6. Did you cut yours down, from 6 to 4? It's an interesting thread.

As promised, here's a couple of photos, but still work in progress at the moment. Lots to do and a bit frustrating, as its not progressing as fast as I'd hoped, but will get there eventually. The engine has been totally stripped, renovated and powder coated, by Derrick Edmondson Racing. The carb has been stripped down, ultrasonic cleaned and then Aqua blasted and finally re-ultrasonic cleaned. The results are very good, so hope the rest of bike comes out as good. The frame is currently being worked on, as I'm going to have modern footrest mounts, as I couldn't get on with the original tiny foot pegs. Not quite up to Franck's standard, but will still be a great bike to ride and enjoy. Franck, is there any chance you could take some close up photo of your oil cooler setup please, look very interesting. Thanks.

Franck I hope to have my bike built and finished maybe in a month or two's time, but I will post some photos of some of the work I have done so far in the next few days, promise. ;-)

Franck the attention to detail is very good, love the factory look fuel gauge on the shelter, with your alloy tank. Very well done Franck. I see you have fitted a differant rear brake master cylinder, is that due to the lower foot peg mounts, they do look very low, or is it because it works better with your trick billet machined rear caliper? What make is that rear silencer, is it a Mitani?

Stunning Franck, just superb. I see you've fitted the 89 shelter now over the pinky and an unusual rear silencer. I just hope my own RTL comes out half as good as yours, I'll be well chuffed. Currently look for a front headlight, but would also be prepared to make a copy if I could get someone to allow me to make a mould of theirs!

Panerai (Franck), lots of us are very interested in your very special RTL bike build, so if you can find the time to keep us updated, we would all appreciate it. You can never have too many pictures to look at and drool over. ;-)
  14. Search the Internet, Termignoni and Mitani, both very good, choose which one suits your buget. ;-)
  15. Have you backed off the span adjuster, so the piston in the master cylinder is open? If not this could be preventing the fluid from moving into the master cylinder fluid bowl.
  16. Nice one Justin, should be able to get some good videos on that site. One thing that might make the video more interesting, is to shoot some video from other points, maybe from the handle bar pointing toward you, then another mounted on the swing arm or forks, as well as a tripod showing what your riding over. Then edit all these views together, makes for a even more interesting video. The downside is how long it may take to edit, but it's certainly a lot easier now, with digital media and editing software. Chest mount is a good perspective for trials, as others say, helmet mounting tends to make the viewer feel sick.
  17. Not sure I'm allowed to say the name of a UK company that could supply you, possibly due to forum rules? But if you know the name of a bird of preys claws! ;-) You will find a motorcycle engineering company in Yeovil, UK, who can help you. ;-)

    Honda Rtl Videos

Nice bike Andy, mines still in progress, but hope to have it running in the new year, very much looking forward to it indeed. Here another video, recently put on YouTube. Lovely bike, with lots of mods. I like the oil cooler, looks like a good place to put it, something I'm wanting to do. Just need to find a suitable cooler to use.
  19. The melting you might be referring to is the rear mudguard. On pre 2014 bikes, the rear mudguard is quite close to the exhaust exit. When riden normally in sections it isn't a problem, but riden for long periods such as road trials, the hot gases can melt the rear mudguard. I have seen a bike with an extension fitted to rear of the silencer, to direct the gases away, but it looked awfull. Alternatively if you must have a Termi, you could buy a 2014 rear mudguard, which sits much higher. You can now buy a 2014+ style mudguard that is specially made for the older 4RT's, the area around the fuel tank is different, so is made to fit the older style fuel tank.

    Vertigo Launch

I agree, the thread is kind of getting side tracked, let's get back on track about the Vertigo. I like the exhaust solution with the twin exits, looks very neat and tucked in. ;-)

    Vertigo Launch

I'm not an engineer or mechanic, so I can't honestly answer that question. But to hazard a guess, the ignition has to maintain a set amount of volts, to supply all the electrical systems and I guess it can only reliably do this at a certain rpm. Some people have experimented and turned the idle down, but they tend to stall easier. I guess it is what it is, from the early 2000's engineering. Today's technologies no doubt would be better, so one might expect the next generation EFI Honda develope for trials, will be able to resolve the high tick over. Some people hate the high tick over, I personally don't mind it and I guess most just adapt and get use to it. I look forward to seeing the Vertigo up close and maybe in the future trying one out, although that's probably unlikely. Only two weeks now, before James debuts the Vertigo at Sheffield, so Good luck to him and Vertigo, I'm sure the bike will be great.

    Vertigo Launch

I'd say the 4RT fuel injection is pretty dam good, considering it was designed way back in the early 2000's. Yes it has a high tick over, but that's down to the fact it doesn't have a bloody great battery to supply power to the EFI, just a small capacitor. Of all the bikes I have ever owned, the 4RT has the best owning experience, start very easy and you never have to worry about its fuelling needs. EFI is the way forward, unfortunately for OSSA, they had their fair share of problems, but I believe they are now solved, now they run a battery pack. If and when Honda decide to bring out a brand new bike, the EFI on that should be far superior to the current 4rt, it's likely to be smaller, lighter and more intelligent. I guess most manufacturers would like to use EFI, it's more likely to be a cost thing that stops them.
  23. Lineaway, I'd say you've got a serious addiction there mate. ;-)
  24. I think lots would benefit from any experience or tips on this subject.
