  1. Very slick, some big production work going on there.
  2. Hard to bear kidda, I hope that the bottom end doesn't have too much swarf in there
  3. You can still get obtructing crud in the twist grip, or as others have pointed out the throttle slide might have jammed (for whatever reason) in the carb' or even...if you're a cack-handed spotter like me; trying to grab your mate's bike as it reverses back down a step/obstacle...and as you grab the bars, you grab the throttle cable by mistake
  4. Yup, if you run out of talent (like me) and you want someone to carry out the work for you, Alan Haney has never let me down. I can personally recommend him, I've ridden 315 's with him, bought one from him and had work done by him. He's even got a montesa 315 tattoo on his. ....only kidding P.S. Did I mention that he's my official photographer?
  5. He doesn't usually reply until night time...I think his coffin lid has a UV sensor
  6. Some people worry about things that may never happen; catastrophic global warming, asteroid strikes, zombie uprising etc. but I can't help thinking about the dropped bike scenario where the engine tries to rev itself to death . A few recent posts have touched on the subject, citing dead-man's cut outs and the like but I've seen a few 2-stroke motors completely ignore the kill-switch on their way to death row. Never mind 'What would Jesus do?' What would TC members do? Please vote and discuss, any real life experiences or remedies could affect my sleep patterns :-
  7. You've spurred me on to ask a question that's bugged me for ages.
  8. Keep the questions coming, this is the TC brotherhood, in all my time on this site I've never seen anyone fail to get a reply to a request for advice (as for the quality of the reply...well...er.) The tanks do expand and they do leak but those faults should be manageable. When I went into semi-retirement and laid-up my bike for a few months I drained the tank dry and left it off the bike for a while. When I went to re-fit the tank it just fell in place, much easier than it had ever been ! The tap mount to the base of the tank does leak, some had an o-ring, some had a gasket and some had both; if you can get an imperial (larger than std) viton o-ring in there it seems to sort the problem, Copey might chime in with the exact dimensions? Your carb might need rotating a touch to clear the tank when the choke is on but there isn't much room above the lever anyway, I drill the tip of the lever and put a tiny cable tie through the hole so I can easily just yank the choke down into the off position like flushing a miniature chain-pull toilet ! saves taking your glove off on a cold day (it's grim up North). P.S.Watch oot: I've just thought, if those two dome-head bolts that hold the tap to the bottom of the tank have corroded in place; be very careful when you unfasten them. The female threads are a brass nut insert, moulded into the nylon tank, if they rotate in their housing you're buggered.
  9. I sympathise with your situation but until you open it up to inspect it we can't advise you acurately. Seizing at full RPM is rarely an inexspensive experience. You may have nipped up the piston and got away with it, maybe sustaining a little ring damage ,some people are that lucky. As for rebores, it's a little more involved than that, you may neeed to re-plate the whole cylinder....but again we'll just have to wait until you perform the autopsy. The one time I needed any machine work done on a bike I ended up at a place called Armstrongs at the bottom of WestGate Hill in Newcastle city centre, that was a long time ago. Good luck
  10. 'Tis a '93 and within a few hours of practice you should be riding like this........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GhA7vCXPfM
  11. Special tools? I seem to remember having to make a split brass ferule to safely hold the impellor shaft in a vice? Anyone else dream this, I could be wrong?
  12. Is it Dougie...doing the ultimate wall-of-death?
  13. See below Err.. I just need to clarify it's a physics, school field trip not an offer of employment, sorry if y'all thought I was boasting. I'm still jealous though. Yes, that's the people and that bloke's her pin-up.
  14. Even after a plodge through a stream?
  15. On that subject (which I created) I went to a meeting last night and learned that my eldest is going to CERN, I'm a bit envious
  16. You should post up a warning NSFW 'cos I could watch that all day (at work ).
  17. Because of safety issues I feel the need to talk hypothetically: Suppose a person with a trials bike wished to elimate ( very quickly) the possibility of an external crankcase-carb-reed block air leak? Would he get quick results from opening a can of butane in the vicinity of the idling trials bike engine with regards to stabilising the tick-over speed, this could help rule out/ locate a range of air leak problems? You don't smoke, do you? If it all goes wrong, will you let me know and I'll delete this post

    Kicking The Raga

That seems a bit extreme, how close is it to your exhaust?
  19. Congratulations Donald, I think you have discovered, what they call in the quantum physics world, the anti-joke, a very elusive particle indeed. Your anti-joke looks the same as an opposing ,positive joke yet when the two come together it manages to annihilate the actual joke thus emitting a residual, depressing, negative wave when the observer collapses from the reality of the creation of the joke. Cue Geordie taaak:- That would be funny if it wasn't true...like...pet !
  20. PaulW, when it happenend to me the throttle was set at a fixed rpm and I had to ride the clutch to suit...scary, especially drop offs Birra card around the carb helped a lot
  21. I had a new (weeks old) 03 290 with slightly advanced timing, when the weather got cold (0c-ish) it was snappy and sharp as hell making it a bit more difficult to ride, especially in the icy environment...trials riding excuse no. 355 As for riding in the snowy conditions? I wouldn't be too concerned about the effect of the cold on the engine although carb' icing is a bugger (a cardboard shield helps)...just look out for your brittle plastics, I've seen a few breakages resulting from minimal contact !!
  22. Copey, I'm concerned about your personal photo collection, is that pic from the shrine you keep in your spare bedroom. Oh and by the way, that counts as beastiality which is a no-no in our country. Typical queers'n'steers and all that?
  23. No you don't This might be the same woman:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udS-OcNtSWo
  24. When you click on the link there is a request to sign up to google mail ?
  25. Here's one from my eight year old nephew: What's invisible and smells of bananas? Monkey fart!
