id powder coat it rather than paint it.
-
im asking because im a mechanic, and i work in a garage.
i have access to all different types of oils in abundance, which i can have for free.
this in turn will reduce any expense and out goings i have on bike maintainance.
to put it quite simply, i think this "special" oil is a gimmick.
if i have to purchase it i will, but i wont if i already have 45 gallons of a particular oil that will do the job nicely.
-
so are you saying there are NO alternatives other than to use shop bought air filter oil?
-
apart from the stuff on the shelves that is specific "air filter oil" what else can you use to oil air filters?
-
does it still do it when the bike has been run up to temp?
-
oh right, i thought they were to stop your throttle sticking on in a crash when the bike hits the floor.
ill give them a go if they promote throttle action. i come from a motocross background and i dont have throttle/clutch control! im either on or off!
how often should one be cleanig the throttle tube anyway? ive never done it.
-
any advanages to have the bearing type over rather than the non bearing type?
i was thinking of splashing the cash a little on some bar ends and flexi levers as my bike spends a lot of time on the floor.
-
is there any external leaks at all?
when u lose pedal pressure does the level drop in the reservoir?
-
its probably leaking from that stupid excuse for a rad overflow
-
i reckon its coolant dripping from the radiator.
-
-
higher the better id say.
they are easy to lift on if you pick it up by the back wheel.
i was going to use the base of an old office chair for mine so its on castors to move it around on the floor and also able to rotate it 360* when working on it.
they are also go up and down hydraulically so you can alter height.
-
if you want a custom jobbie then go for it i say. but i was thinking along the lines you are before i bought my stand.
for magnetic trays i use a selection of these :
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/search/filter/magnetic+parts+tray/type/any/page/1
small and large. you can use them for bolts/clips/washers/pins etc and keep it all seperate (handy when re-assembleing)
or even parts like calipers, bearings etc. brake fluid proof. petrol proof.
-
for the sake of £30 its not worth the effort.
-
hmmmm, im not sure why you think im skimming the disc cos of squeeling? i said im skimming it cos its scored.
the pads got plenty of material on them, but the rear backing plate is bubbled up with corrosion, and the scoring of the disc has worn them unevenly and grooved them.
-
you two are starting to put me off doing it now lol.
ill ask my mate tomorrow if he thinks he can do it.
it wont hurt to ask the question, and even if he buggers it up i dont mind as i need a new disc anyway
-
good tip that if it works.
i get this problem on my gasser, especially when its cold.
i get so frustrated with it ive started to kill the engine, pop it into neutral and then kick it over again
-
i gotta be honest i like ebay too.
but for things like bike parts i prefer to go to a shop as i like to hold things and look at them before i buy.
-
coxy, thanks for the excellent info.
the minimum thickness of the disc i have fitted is 2.7mm (etched onto disc), and to be honest, ive measured it on removal tonight and it is just above the minimum at 2.74mm at its thinnest. but im going to do it anyway as i only want the (very shallow) scores taken out, and to be checked for flat.
im going to leave the disc in the capable hands of a friend who has a Pro-Cut lathe, and keep my finger crossed his equipment is able to do it.
-
oops i forgot to mention a b motorcycles in my first post.
they are who i currently use for bits and pieces.
there is a lot of good suggestions coming through. and the same place hasnt been mentioned twice yet. there will be a good list of shops by the end of this thread im sure.
-
my rear brake is getting a little noisy. the pads got plenty of material left on them but they are starting to squeek.
for the sake of < 15 qwid im going to pop some new pads in.
after looing at my disc there are a couple of score marks on it so i have been thinking of getting it skimmed?
a new disc is more than i want to spend at the moment, and an engineers will only charge a tenner if that to skim it smooth and check it for flat.
just wondering is there tolerance on bike discs like the car equivalent?
anybody done the same?
-
ive been trawling the internet the last few days looking for places to buy service parts like brake pads, bearings, tyres etc etc.
ive noticed that trialsuk are pretty keen on their prices, as are feetup trialsport.
a guy that comes to my work mentioned JC Motorcycles in port talbot, and cant recommend them highly enough. they are also quite local to me.
anywhere else that is good for getting some bits from?
i will be honest, i like to shop around for the best prices.
-
id get the beta personally
-
-
im going to prospeed for a custom made stainless pipe when my rear tyre eventually wears through my exhaust.
p.s. nice name
