Stroke looks very short. Together with the rather curious plug position it makes the motor still quite compact. How about a 'side/flat' valve combination.
I notice that only Tommi is entered in the WTC round - he was a point scorer last year on both days, so interesting to see how he goes.
I can't believe that people think that its a opportunity for the bike not to perform. Of course there's pressure on Tommi and the bike - Motegi is Honda's own facility and the Honda/HRC bosses are always in attendance.
I would think that nothing less than a point scoring place would be deemed a success.

Hmmm.................no HRC casings, or a mention of the bike on the HRC site. Could this be the 'cooking' version

They'll have to do something about that front pipe, any 'punters' looking at the bike will think its a fifty.
The tuning thing is a problem in Road Racing at the mo, you get the software and a USB cable to play with the HRC kit for a CBR600RR, but it isn't very helpful. The only way to set one up is on a Dyno, then its not just any Dyno, you need a load cell to really get the mapping right.
Spent a day with a mate, who was setting his HRC equipped CBR up recently, fortunately he gets his Dyno time for free - used about 10 hours to get a reasonable setting. Chopping jets never seemed so simple

The Beamish was fenced off for a couple of Fantics ( a couple of 200s, then a 240) and as my first name is also Jamie, its how the Subira bit came about.
You Winslow Boys chopped the rear sub frame of one of my 200s, at my request, wanted a Bultaco look - the remaining sub frame was so soft, it got quite mis-shaped.
This was all at the time of some pretty busy South Midlands events - not a mono shock in sight: Haslams, Cowleys, Smiths, Faulkner, Blackmore, Huxtable, Koch, Allen, Dodd, Mills, Baker, Hole, Kinsey, - plus Dabster, Enrico, Milly etc.....
I'd say that the 156(200) Fantic was one of the best twin shocks. (Personally it took me from Novice to Expert and Centre to Nationals in a very short space of time.)
It marked a turning point for the 325/340 Sherpa and the 348/349 Cota, as you didn't need a big motor to do well anymore. Brian Fowler signed up everyone to ride one and it must have massed a tonne of Silverware in the process.

The silencer is a bit large, perhaps a nice Akrapovic carbon can would fit in there nicely.

Having seen the photos, it looks like it has utilised an almost 315 like frame layout, and the motor isn't a CRF bottom end.
I'm not complaining, it looks ready to ride - not work in progress !
I was thinking on how you start it, surely the injection needs some power to get the bike running ? (best get the laptop ready to set the timing an mixture)
So what's its going to sell at ?

The last time I saw the No.1 bike it looked like it had been ' ridden hard and put away wet' quite a sad case.
Dabster will have to spend many hours in the shed to get that one running sweetly, so you're probably safe for a couple of years.
Always like the Beamish Suzuki, in fact I owned one in my late schoolboy /early adult days that was formerly owned by Milly himself

When it comes to sponsorship, its going to be difficult to find new funds outside the sport - it isn't a high profile sport, but most local Authorities have the ability to fund 'excellence' in their Boroughs/Counties - so that always has to be a punt.
When it comes to not getting responses to letters - its just like the amount of cold calling I have to do in my job, its a numbers game unfortunately.
Make about 200 calls, and you might get 1 or 2 opportunities. I have found that people rarely respond to 'prospecting' letters and emails. 'Oh, yes I think I saw your mail = yes I read the title and deleted it'
I'm sure the Academy have covered this. Target some companies in your area who you think would fit, research them thoroughly, write your call script then call the Marketing Manager and Director directly.
The worst thing that can happen is they say no !

Many moons ago, there was a organisation called 'Racing for Britain'
Its purpose was to bring on new motor racing talent (4 wheeled) variety.
They raised money through private donations, selling merchandise and sponsorships.
I know it supported a couple of racers all the way through to F1/F3000 as it was back then. Would need to research the names but the RFB logo was on a good number of winners cars. The cost of the sport spiraled to an extent that the fund raising wasn't enough, so i think it die/went fully commercial.
As it appears that not everyone wants to contribute to the future of British trialing, an organisation such as this may be the solution. It could probably gain a charitable status (with the assiciated tax benefits) and be run outside the ACU. Not in competition with the Academy, but compliment it by making additional funds available. It couldn't 'salary' riders but could help fund travel, living etc
Speak to Camelot nicely and get some lottery funding, a few commercial sponsors and its in business.
Trialing For Britain anyone ?
As a footnote, if you want to see some mis-spent Lottery money, have a look at 'The Leander Club' in Henley on Thames. OK, its where Redgrave and Pinsett have previously trained - and the various crews still spend time there, but do they need

I'm still 'narrowband' so that's probably why they loaded quicker and it wasn't too painful to go through them all.
Will be moving into the 21st century on 2 weeks or so mr BT tells me.

Only thing I know is that the motor needs the Serco conversion to 250cc - so how do the scrutineers check that out

Yes I have tried it. Found it a little tempermental though. But the works bikes use it so it cant be bad !
Fitted a pre-2001 inlet rubber, and then made a new tube to the airbox using a Kawasaki KX80 rubber and clip, 'dovetailed' onto a pre-2001 rubber. Used 'Shoe Gue' to form the bond between the two.
I don't know your jets but I seem to remember being only about 1 turn out on the fuel screw.
My VHST is on a box in the garage can check the jets if you need to know what 'sort of' works.

Firstly, an excellent set of Photos from Andy on todays Pre-65 event.
Been up and spectated on Pipeline a few times myself - kind of an enigma of British Trials sections.
Anyway, getting to the point. Was there really that much suspension travel Pre-65 ?
Never thought to ask before, but just how standard does the bike have to be, there's a few bikes in there with more front travel than my Mont.
Looking at some original trials Cub photos (TR20) they seem to be 'hanging' a bit lower than they do today. I guess I know the real answer - but tell me how do get it past the scrutineer ?

The fuel screw - the smallest of the two, nearest the engine should be about 3 1/2 turns out from fully seated. (the best place to start on an 04 Monty)
The 'tick over' throttle stop screw is the one to the right with the knurling so that you can adjust it by hand, is then adjusted to get it right where you want it.
If you still haven't got any tickover after this - take the carb off and clean it.

Ah yes but Nigel, you seem to forget your junior school history lessons, that the Principality of Richmondshire - exported all the manyana know how to Spain in the early 1800s.
The Spainish still use the building techniques learned in their constructions today - the Barcelona Cathederal is being a prime example of the manyana methodology.
Basically like all great projects they're all running late - Sherco, Beta, Gasser - to many San Miquel's at the concept stage.

The Pensini motor is an entirely seperate project to the factory effort.
Angelo has been working on Monts for sometime and has undertaken a good deal of development of his own on 315s - including the MIK 4T that is shown above. He's innovative and has developed a 4T top end for the 315 bottom end and grafted it into the existing frame. He built his own 280 kit and has come up with a good number of other mods for the 315.
It a great project, there's plenty of 315s to convert if it works and its a winner, but.....
If anyone thinks that this will for the basis of the 316 ? think again. Take a look at a CRF250 motor, add a Rev3 frame & Showa suspension - then press the imagination button.
