Lots of investment in Autosol

I agree its a hornets nest - the closer you look the more you find out who's doing what mods.
My view on the regulations is to have a 'silhouette' formula and accept that the bikes are 'Specials'. I would believe that anything else is un-enforcable. Ok so frames and carbs are obvious, but policing what's happening inside the engine, suspension is going to be very difficult - belt drives, PVL, gears, cranks, bultaco fork internals etc. I don't think that this pushes the cost up significantly, at least its saves on the 'looky-likey' machining.
With a 40 year old plus bike, its going to be difficult to keep it totally original, no least expensive. I saw that Bonhams recently sold a totally original ex-Police Cub at

If you are thinking of a Cub, then its worth looking up Duncan Macdonald who makes the ARMAC frame kit. Very helpful and the frame is also used by Dave Thorpe. Speak to the guys that OTF has mentioned they are all really helpful, and don't mind sharing a bit of their knowledge with you.
Most stuff is mail order'able. I'd suggest that you give them all a call

Are the TY 350 forks the same as the 250 mono ? If so what's the recommended oil level/quantity..and what weight oil works best.
The air wrench worked in my case, although I'm sure I'll need the broom stick when I put them back together.
-
If its 2001 it should be Red with a metallic effect tank. Showa forks, Chrome front pipe, inboard rear brake caliper, four pot AJP front caliper and Dellorto 26mm PHBL carb. There's a few other small things but if it can't pass the test of having this kit then it isn't a 2001.
A smart move would be to take the petrol cap of an see what colour the tank plastic is - if its white then its either a 97 or a 2001 (or later) if some how it was a 97 then it would have paoili forks.
Hope this helps.

Don't worry about the start time. Get there as early as you can and stay as late as you can.
There's normally a warm up period for the riders before the event and there's always plenty to see in the paddock.
This might sound like a dumb/smart a*** answer - its not meant to be, If you can make it to the event, you may as well make the most of it .

The filler is neatly tucked away under the cover at the top of the tank - underneath the Trials Central sticker.

Used my open face on a scooter, lasted one day before I was sick of the flies in my face and teeth. Dug out the full face for the next day
Of course it does depend on how quick a 50 is, the 180 I had was pretty swift and got quite exciting when sideways in the wet.
Got to be worth a try with the hebo anyway.
If you're going to using the scooter a lot then a full face is a good investment, ultimately it offers more protection. Then its always useful to have around, you never know who's going to offer you a blast on their race bike at a trackday
-
Dabster you know that my bike is trickier !
What Dougie is lacking is his Trials Central stickers, if he was riding my bike then I'm sure that he'd keep his feet up
-
The young spaniard could still manage a Indoor / Outdoor double. Lots of dry rocks and big steps coming up, and we know he likes that kind of going.
Too close to call at this stage me thinks

I've always felt that the Monty knocking is definitely octane related, others reckon its jetting - the only cures I have found are either 4 star (99.7 RON) or elf GPM-2T (100 RON). As the elf fuel is very expensive, dig out a localish 4 star pump.
You can find your nearest 4-star via:

On a bad day it takes me more than that just to get home from work.
I've started improvising for the lack of trialling:
Got Baulked on the Escalators at Waterloo - didn't bother with a re-run.
A hasty dab on someone's foot on the tube, she wasn't happy
Then a five when the train pulled out just I got to the platform. (30 mins to the next one)
Managed to clean the two cans of very cold stella from the off license though.
-
Didn't make it unfortunately, sweated my B**l*ck* off on the Bakerloo Line instead.
Commuting into the Smoke in 30 C heat just isn't fun
Had a dozen FOBs sweating all over the carriage - not nice, the smell underground is worse than a pig farm.
I'm a Trials Rider get me out of here !

By my reckoning the season reaches halfway point in France on Saturday night.
The Championship orders a bit different to previous years, and Fuji's had 5 day wins, Raga 2 and Dougie only 1.
All the remaining rounds are taking place in Southern Europe, so probably likely to be very dry.
I wonder what the riders school style reports would look like:
Fuji (Prefect)- A good term, excellent progress, keep up the good work.
Dougie (Head Boy) - A little disappointing, but a concerned effort with plenty of revision should see success at the end of the term.
Raga - We know he can do it, but he lacks concentration sometimes and easily distracted. Likes to show off in front of the class, a bit more serious application to the task could result in end of term success.

I think there's a great risk of bike prices significantly increasing over the next couple of years, I'm not talking inflationary, Euro/Pound, Euro/Dollar increases here.
Whoever makes it, a 4 stroke costs more to produce in such limited quantities as trials bikes. Increased use of more expensive technology, fuel injections/programmable ignition, etc. will also increase cost. Both of these mean the price has to go up, in order for everyone to make their margins in the distribution chain, this is before you kick your new bike over at its first trial.
It looks to me like the prices will hop up at least

World round observers have the same un-enviable task as all the 'amateur' officials that referee professional sports.
I'm not saying that they don't know what they are doing - far from it. But its a difficult position to be in, I'd certainly want a really thorough briefing before I took a section on.
I'm sure they call what they are confident they saw, any element of doubt means you have to back off or risk a dispute.
Its like the Tennis situation, the observing becomes harder as the game speeds up at the top level, and the significance of the call is increased by the sponsorships/bonuses in the game. The umpire/linesman is still the same guy, same pair of eyes - but with a lot more pressure.
The 'Hawkeye' system help iron out calls on 130-150mph serving. Perhaps a bit of similar technology could help ? (Cloud Cuckow Land: Sensor in riders boot, beeping for every dab, counter and speaker on front number plate) Maybe just video each rider and review it in cases of disputes ?
Just think that there different objectives involved for the Observer and WTC Rider.
Observer: He's there because he's supporting his Club/Country, might be paid but just enough to cover expenses etc. Has a full time job, etc. How significant is each point he calls to him ?
Rider: He's there to win, get best points he can. Please/maintain sponsors, get bonuses, this is his full time job / means of income. Every point is significant to him.

You'd better be sitting down when you ring them, put a cushion on the table in front of you, then you won't damage your jaw when they tell you the price.
The Showas are shed loads, I have no idea on anything else - be interested if anyone had a price for GG forks. For some reason I'm thinking

I think a lot of the detail got covered here:

oops !
Over did it on the picture size...

I've had a set of these billet aluminium ones for 12 months, there still sound. Made in Germany - Vorsprung durch technik as they say.
-
Andy you forgot
5. Burn all the plastic you can find on the BBQ
6. Midnight fairground rides in the Portaloo
Alas I can't make it - I'm another fool
Can't believe its a year since the last one my jacket has only just stopped smelling of burning polystyrene
-
I think the Honda/HRC engineers might be a tad upset if you thinks its all trial and error
-
Looks like it made it through the baptism then ? I bet there's a few people who finished behind Tommi that would like to be riding one now.
Sounds like lots of TC folk are interested in it.
If the WTC version is going to be 'tricked' with Head mods, different cam/ignition, Titanium bits etc its going to be a lot more that
-
I was thinking a bit more hi-tech than that, not that a Honda lawnmower is a bad machine, its a Honda after all
I was thinking more along the lines of the combustion chamber being laid over to reduce the height of the motor, looks like the plug enters the side of the chamber why can't the valves be in the side as well ( showing a complete lack of mechanical knowledge here) - it would keep the height to a minimum, although add to the width.
HRC haven't snapped up my offer of being their crash test dummy yet.
