  1. The rim, sprocket and brake disc alignment have all been checked thoroughly (with a vernier) and are spot on, exactly the same as the GG original. I am sure Ishy checked this to when he's used the Mont wheel in his Sherco and the Scorpa.
  2. And the otherside before I clean and adjust the chain
  3. The 9mm Sherco Sprocket side spacer gives the best fit. So to recap, if you want to fit a Montesa 315 post 2001 wheel into a Pro you need the Montesa disc side spacer and a Sherco sprocket side spacer. Perfect !

Just to answer this question, there wasn't a crash ! The fluid was expanding as the bike lapped the circuit and the rider braked as normal, this made the brake start to bind, this generated more heat, which caused the fluid to heat up further, building more pressure in the system, which made the brake bind even more, this cycle continues until the bike gracefully grinds to a halt - 140 bhp at the wheel at a standstill due to the blocked vent. Lots of head scratching when the recovery van brings the bike back to the garage. Moments before we all grabbed a spanner and took the engine out one of the lads piped up 'Look at the disc, its completely F888ed', We spent an hour getting the wheel out as it was locked solid and the disc was still warm, disc and pads went straight in the bin, unblocked the vent, new chain on, new wheel on and a podium spot in Race 2
  5. Depending on your budget the popular choice for ignition is PVL, no nest of wires, no battery, just a big heathly spark every time. Cases need modifying. Carbs are an interesting subject, Keihin, Mikuni, Amal or Dellorto. All in regular use. Depending on where you live in the country dictates whats legal and whats not. See the thread on th Pre-65 Scottish and you'll get a flavour. I would recommend the Dellorto PHBL 22mm, but you need check what's good in your locale. With the 16T engine sprocket, you still have an endless chain. you take out half a link and re-rivet it. I also run the Serco primary chain tensioner, which is featured on another thread. http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3243 If you run the wide ratio Cub box, 14/54 is a good choice. You can also modify 2nd gear to make it lower, and get a choice rather than using 1st everywhere. Frames.....another mine field. I think it depends what you want to do with the bike. If you want to embarrass the boys on their '05 Gaseta Shertesa on the middle route, then you would probably want to invest in an ARMAC (Macdonald) frame - has the most suspension travel and sump clearance. I can't comment on the Otter, apart from the engineering isn't as good and it hasn't won the ACU Classic Series for the last few years. There's an option of using the Std front diamond, with the Miller top tube/oil tank, with a modded swinging arm and rear sub-frame to. There's also forks, yokes and wheels to consider to, and believe me there's lots going here as well. Probably best not discussed in an open forum, there's children reading this board If you want some more info, mail me, I've spent the last 14 months, figuring out what's what , I can send you contact details of the folks you might want to talk to and some photo copies of some good articles that will help.
  6. I have been trying to create a list of rear wheel spacer widths, very useful when trying to get spare wheels to fit different bikes. Could someone measure the sprocket and disc side spacers on an SY250 ? I'll post the full list in the Riders Helping Riders thread.

Looks perfect ! On the Supersport bikes I have worked on, the rear brake resovoir is always replaced with a simple tube. Never had any problems, with water/dirt getting in, even in 8 hr endurance races when its p**sed down from the start to finish of the entire meeting. Only problem we had was when the vent hole got blocked, the fluid expanded and the wheel locked up !! It wouldn't be a bad mod on a GG either

    Pdfs ?

Do you have a link to them or can I PM you for a copy ?

    Pdfs ?

I am trying to find a PDF of the Workshop/Service Manual for a Pro. All the links on the web seem to be broken on the GasGas sites. I have the 03 Parts books, and would be interested if there's any parts PDFs for the later models to.
  10. Has anyone any good recommendations on multi bike policies ? I had my Triumph with Carol Nash at
  11. Thanks, those measurements are really helpful Mont Wheel measures 139mm (call it 140mm we used a Vernier) Gas Gas Wheel measures 139mm (call it 140mm we used a Vernier) Anyone able to post the Scorpa spacer sizes ? The Mont Disc side spacer (5.5mm) gets the disc central in the caliper (I hadn't tried it before tonight - I'd been using the gauge) Then measured 8.5mm on the sprocket side, I'll order a Sherco and a Beta Sprocket spacer tomorrow, see which gives the best fit and I'm there Spare wheel for less than a tenner. Also checked the dishing of the wheel with it centred in the disc (with the Mont disc spacer) and the GG sprocket spacer and feeler gauges to correct width - spot on. So going back to the original post, there's a few options for wheels to look out for second hand, whether you own a Mont, GG, Sherco or Scorpa.
  12. I have a Mont wheel in my garage that isn't doing anything, it was also rebuilt a year ago so its in really good nick and I want to use it in the Gasser if I can. I checked the disc to sprocket widths last night (sober and with a steel rule), and they are within 1mm of each other, so I just need to find spacers that will get the disc centred and give me the right fit with the swinging arm. The wheel needs a wider spacer on the sprocket side and a narrower spacer on the disc side. The gasser spacers are both 7.5mm, it looks like it needs around a 9mm Sprocket side and a 6.5mm Disc side to get the wheel to fit. Once its in I can check that the rim offset is the same, this can easily be tweaked a few mill either way by a good whell builder. Anyone interested in getting a table of spacer widths together from the various bikes and years ? I'll start the ball rolling: Gas Gas Pro 03 Sprocket side is 7.5mm Gas Gas Pro 03 Disc side is 7.5mm Mont 01 onwards Sprocket side is 12mm Mont 01 onwards Disc side is 5.5mm P.S. I am sure that the chain will cope with less than a 'mill of misalignment. Especially after it been through a bit of South Midland mud.
  13. I seem to remember that the National Lottery funds various 'Performance Plans', but from memory the sport had to be an Olympic event. There's heaps of grants been given to Tennis, Rowing, Cycling, Triathlon etc. At national, regional and local level. Both for individuals and clubs (equipment and facilities). I know Trials isn't an Olympic event, but has a recognised British, European and World Championship structure. Surely someone in one of the organisations, has sat down with UK Sport or the regional orgs. (eg Sport England, Sport Wales) to review whether a grant could be obtained for Youth development ? Or maybe they haven't.
  14. I want to use a late Mont wheel as a spare for a Gasser, can anyone confirm the spacers to use ? From Ishy's post it looks like it will drop straight in to a Sherco and a Scorpa using the origninal Monts spacers. So does a Sherco or Scorpa wheel drop straight into the Pro using the Sherco or Scorpa spacers. i.e. The Mont wheel and spacers work with the Pro ? And a Scorpa and a Sherco ?
  15. You need to find a local Boyesen dealer I think they are distributed by Serval Marketing (AXO Sport) 01234 365365. Looks like you need the #659 reeds. I have always had to do a bit of running round to find Boyesen's, give Cusworth's in Doncaster a try, or most MX dealers (stocking AXO stuff) can order them for you.
  16. 20:00 on 21st Jan for an hour, so the TV Schedule says. I think one of the issues for the coverage is the lighting, I know it makes a great atmosphere in the arena to have the lights down and just the one rider in the spotlight so to speak. But the TV coverage suffers as a result. I suspect that its been shot by a freelance crew who maybe covered Horse Racing last week, and Snooker the week before, and fancied a bit of overtime (as they'd missed out on getting the work at the Darts), maybe not bad coverage if you haven't seen a trial before. They don't get very creative, a great camera angle would to be to shoot from the top of the Waterfall section, get a hoist in the arena and get the camera guy up level with the action - how about a helmet cam, sump cam etc The 'post' always surprises me on the indoor and outdoor, how can such an exciting event be made to appear so dull ? If you were to show this kind of footage to a BBC Exec Producer, for consideration for a slot is it really surprising that they say no ? The FIM need to think about the Indoor format, it needs work for Telly to encourage sponsors, I'm afraid it looks really dated when compared with MotoGP, WRC and WSB.
  17. I asked about engine oil on an earlier thread http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2662 I have ended up using Castrol GTX 20/50 in the engine. Halfords had the 5Lt can on promotion before Xmas. Gearbox: Using Silkolene Light Gear Oil. Primary: A little TQF, although I think I have a little slip at the moment. Lots of people have differing views on what is right in the primary. You don't need a lot though.
  18. Depends on what box you have, Std or Wide ratio. I have Wide Ratio box and have fitted the 16T primary drive sprocket, this means that you also have to take half a link from the chain, and probably fit a tensioner. I'm running 14 - 54 - I have also fitted the Serco lower second gear to give me the option of using 1st and 2nd. If your cases split in the middle (distrbutor or not), then the only way to change the sprocket is to split the cases, then you appreciate why the mod is worth doing, next time you only have to remove the clutch and primary drive.
  19. Riding out the remaining indoor events on the 315 has to be a big error (isn't hindsight a wonderful thing ) Following the last Outdoor WTC, the lads should have been riding the 4T non-stop - including overtime, non of this having a baby, getting married lark !. The Indoor or Outdoor TDN aren't important to Montesa so performance here and in the Spanish indoors should have been sacrificed for development time. Even Mitani-san has developed a 260 kit and has it in production. I am really surprised that the mighty Honda Motor Co and HRC hasn't delivered, Rossi has just p**sed on their chips, Everts continues to pee on the Sushi, KTM have shown them that the future actually is orange (in enduros) and not Red. What's been going on at HRC - have the boys gone on vacation ? developed a habit ? Mr Honda needs to kick some backside, he's in danger of losing yet another World Title.
  20. Have to agree with you on that point. People seem to have short memories, only a couple of years ago there was mass 'cheating', with timeouts to fix 'bike problems' and opting out of sections. If a section is very long and not passible it going to happen. What would you do in the same situation, As a professional rider who makes his living from the sport ? Miss the section take a five and get no time penalty Ride the section get a certain five, get time penalties, miss the final and the prize money Come on get real !
  21. I have to agree, first time I have missed Sheffield in the last 6 years and really regretted it at about 3pm yesterday. However, the coverage was great and was the next best thing to being there. I liked IanJ's idea of getting it streamed over the web last night, but having chatted with one of my old mates at the Beeb this PM, while the technology can do it, the organisers (Octagon ?) would probably want to much for the rights to may it work. They have the capacity for 50,000 simultaneous web video streams, and Saturday Night is always quiet for their usual stuff. Would have to be 'Pay Per View' If there's any weathy entreprenure's out there..........
  22. What's the story behind this ? Did the 'standard' motor thing come out before or after DL missed the Final. I personally can't believe he was riding with a Std motor. He's got his works suspension and Nissin Master Cylinder, why'd he have a detuned motor for the 2nd biggest event that he rides in England. Yes Fuji is sponsored directly by HRC and DL by Honda Europe, but if you are Honda you need to spread your bets, Fuji's never really delivered indoor before. As for resources and not being able to build more than two works engines - we are talking about the biggest motorcycle company in the world - so unlikely that they couldn't build at least 10 special engines. This is either a manufactured 'excuse', as DL thinks Fuji's getting better kit. Or DL just hasn't gelled with the 4 Banger yet. If you can buy a 260 Kit over the counter in a Japanese Retail Trials outlet, I'm sure that they can do a bit of tuning in the Montesa factory in Spain. Conspiracy Theory Anyone ?

    Carburator

I think its down to jetting and not type, I have a 22mm Dellorto PHBL on my Cub - which looks identical in every way (apart from the bore ) to the 26mm version found on many of the modern bikes. I checked Dellorto 'Carburator Book' and it doesn't differentiate between engine types for the PHBL. This might not be the best example but there are a lot of Cubs using this carb.
