  1. 4 laps of an old rubbish dump is par for the course. There's a couple of decent events but if you really want to ride anything half decent then you need to travel, either South, West or North (Mr Dabster's prefered direction). I took 16 years out and the locations and sections are pretty much the same - still lose plenty of marks I'll be losing even more once my Cub is finished !
  2. Not really from Oxford. But the in-laws have a couple of places up there (Windermere & Keswick), so its a good spot for a long weekend / cheapish holiday. Haven't riden up there, but will do soon. Apologies that the thread has been hijacked But if you are a twin shock rider then the Nostalgia event is highly recommended You could always do the Grasmere Sports the next day to !
  3. I'm no expert as my first Cub is a hundred bits at the moment. But I have heard of people running the Clutch dry, but the majority of folks have a 'little' oil in there - mainly to keep the chain happy. The recommendations on oil has varied from Multigrade - ATF - SAE 30 - 10Wt Fork Oil, so I think its a case of trial and error. How come you have abandoned the alloy cover ? I though that its supposed to be better than the metal original - as it doesn't flex. I been told to get my steels plates bead blasted, as this helps. Previously when I deglazed my Monty steels this made a difference - although the problem there is drag not slip. What condition is the clutch basket in ?
  4. How about a couple of concrete cows ? Do they still make them or did someone break the mould
  5. I remember the SWM having a front disk, and the Fantic looked better than the 240 I had back in '82. (always notice the bikes more than the riders!) You weren't dropping many marks from what I remember
  6. Sections at the Nostalgia looked spot on (just watchin' unfortunately) - but will go back plus bike next year. I don't remember the TLR, were you riding something else ?
  7. Thanks ! The silencer seems to make the biggest difference, its a Mitani 'Power' Silencer and its about 1 inch longer than standard and fitted with a straight internal tube. More power, but a little less grip. The front pipe seemed to make less difference its only fractionally longer, it sounds a little different, but gives a real 'works' look. I think the works bikes have a longer mid section, this makes a standard length silencer look as if its an inch longer.

    Honda Vid

I don't think it downloads, I think its just 'streamed'. I managed to get it running on Bband, probably not enough in your 56k to fit a mighty new Honda down - get one on order instead
  9. Best thing for the sport in this country would have been a Morris or a Connor (or even a Dabill) win - it would give everyone the confidence that once the big three retire that we have some good guys coming through. It would also not doubt help them individually with self confidence for the WTC and attracting sponsors. Same as in the Premiership knowing that the winner's going to come from one of three teams before the first ball is kicked, isn't exactly exciting is it. If that were six or seven teams then I think I'd be more interested.
  10. hmm...just about everywhere. Japan - Tank and Silencer, plus a few other trick bits you can't see. Italy - Front Pipe Germany - Footrest mounts US - Reeds and Brake pedal Ganthorpe - Paintwerx for Tank and Headlamp Front wheel is 32 spoke, couldn't get a DID rim, so had to use the Excel, which is polished. The full list of mods is embarrassingly long, for a rider of my limited ability.
  11. As the Mk 1 Subira Replica has already been featured, I thought I post up the MK 2 version.
  12. I saw it to - I don't think it was Iris either. It did look a lot worse when the chap hit the deck though.
  13. Thanks - I'll find some time to give them a try !
  14. landrover, what year Monty are you riding ? I had some of Peter Schwartz's plates (which are most likely the same) that I used on my 01, but since I changed to an 02 I've never tried them. (I like the steering the way it is and noticed how it changed with the plates on the 01) Just wondering whether its worth the effort to put them on ?
  15. I watched on Saturday, the standard of the Youth Cup riders is very high, and well done to Alexz and all the other British lads you gave it their best shot in extremely hot conditions, and were sitting in queues for 20-30 minutes probably didn't help. There's alot of mental pressure on these lads, watching the top Youths shows that they have to develop 'broad shoulders' to compete at this level just to deal with the psychological side, as well as riding. There were a couple of 'un-savoury' incidents though when a rider or parent let the pressure boil over - but that's a problem in all youth sport unfortunately. Hawkstone is a great venue, but not easy to spectate unless you are a mountain goat ! its surprisingly hard work standing on a steep slope all day Offers some really technical testing sections for the riders, and some tough inter-section going for the Minders. It takes no prisoners on the bikes if the Minders don't catch them.
  16. You want to try Sam Connor. Sam does individual training days, that are really tailored for you. The day I spent with Sam was excellent, he's a good teacher and you start with the basics and can go as far as you need to - the restriction tends to be that you can't even hold onto the bars by the end of the day ! Fantastic He's also London based and has some excellent ground that he can use, if he uses Hook Woods then you'll be in for a great days riding. Contact Sam through his website http://www.samconnor.co.uk

    Montesa

Try Pilot 42 - 45, Main 118-122, needle GFH, slide 3.5 worked for me.
  18. I went a couple of years back - the year of the torrential rain - and guess wot ? The music played on
  19. Looks like the bike and rider have been dropped from a helicopter ? As the rider's heavier than the bike he's overtaken it on the descent and broken the mudguard I think he'll be OK as he looks to be landing on his forearm, so much better than breaking the fall with your wrist and breaking it. I'd bet you'd walk away with just a bit of mud on your jacket, and inside your riding pants - when you realised you forgot the parachute
  20. Not a lot. Best bet is to repack the standard box with Silent Sport or similar and replace the wavy pipe you'll find inside with a straight version. RS Components sell drilled zinc plated sheet that you can roll round a bar/broom handle to make one. The straight pipe gives more power, but at the expensive of a little grip. If you don't want to make one, I know that the Tryals Shop can ship one over (I haven't found anyone who makes and sells them over here) All told this costs about
  21. Had my arm twisted to take my lad to the Euro Round Is there any camping on-site at Hawkstone for non-competitors ? Or any good campsites nearby with availability.
  22. There is a restrictor between Mid-Box and silencer, its a thick washer welded with a couple of dabs in the exit from the mid-box. As to whether you take it out or not, well that's a bit of a debate. Lots of people do, and a good number don't. You don't need to change jetting, although a little tweak on the fuel screw may be required. Personally I think that it works better in the mud with the restrictor in. If you need a bit more engine response then take it out. On my '01 I bored it out by about 2mm and it was a good compromise - I have left it in my '02 (04 porting) and haven't thought that I needed to take it out/modify it. If you decide to take it out, push a shopping carrier down through the restrictor hole with one of the 'ears' left out then grind off the dabs of weld with a stone on a drill/dremil. Once the welds are remove pull on the ear and out come the restrictor and all the swarf. (Nice tip from TrialZone US )
  23. I know exactly what you mean , but I'm hoping that once its together it won't depreciate like a new'un, and it can run for another 40 years.
