I think that I ordered mine a couple off years ago, don't recall any of the problems that you mention. I can only suggest trying it again tomorrow ?
-
I lifted this from eBay a while back. Hope it doesn't upset anyone

Like this ?
Top Fun sell the Gonelli Light, Mr Wizardpaintwerx fakes the carbon look.
-
Yup, KTM EXC by the looks of it.

I'm not sure what works best on a standard frame, but the Falcon units are pretty good, can be built to suit your length, damping and spring rate requirements.
I think they need a longer swinging arm to grip better and give more clearance for a 4.00 x 18 rear tyre. There's a few people that do a conversion - Ray Small at Cub Mods can help you.
The best ignition is to use PVL, requires the cases to be machines to suit - its also the most expensive. There are cheaper alternatives that will get you a reliable spark though - ditto above
Like any motor sport, its just a case of how much you want to spend.
Just finishing my own Cub project, the budget is blown to bits, think of a number double it and then add some more. Had to sell my modern bike to get it finished

Let me know if you want some more

There's always eBay
Just to sell not to buy !
-
It looks like with all the single day events that there's not so many points up for grabs, surely this will make the championship tighter than previous years, add to that a round or two will get cancelled, and the top guys can't even afford one off day. Fantastic !
Hawkstone will be a belter !
-
It's not about the bike folks !
Its about the guy or gal that's riding it
The reality is there's virtually zero performance difference between all the bikes. That's why there isn't a dominant manufacturer, take a look at the results in TMX, no bike is always on top, no bike is a consistent loser.
Just pick a colour, or flip a coin.

Go for a 2003 or later porting is improved, or 2002 or later steering is improved and get Haven to port it.
Bullet proof, not everyones cup of tea, but the fact that people aren't dumping them for a four stroke should tel you something about reliability and build quality.

Did you get any history with the bike ? I'm wondering when they were built, I packed up in '85 and don't remember seeing any.
I was handicapped by having a home built SL/TL125 as my first bike in '77ish, and followed the Honda's ever since (hence the Montesa weakness). I remember there only being a few TL250s ever imported into the UK. Which would make this a very rare machine, even though its a 'replica'.
Jim used to live quite close to me in Buckinghamshire, he made a few 'works' Bultaco air boxes for Commerfords from what I remember, plus of course ran a few tidy Ariels. He's still occassionally seen on a C15 (immaculate of course) at local trials.
There's a few interesting bikes that pass through eBay, but none as tidy as that Honda !

Agree about the engine - be interesting to see if the Lewisport pedal fits, over to you Markyboy
-
I always thought it had something to do with the Hammonds Sauce ?
-
They could have made it the Fujinami World Champion Edition or something - strickly speaking none of the 'Lampkin Replicas' have been true replicas. So there's be a bit of artistic license in use in the past - why not use it again.
It would have been good to see a couple of the Fujigas logos on the rear mudguard and the tank.
You could of course send your bike down to me, and I'll sort it
-
Must have been before the SWM then ? You know how it is when your over 40 - all the years blur into one
-
Good memory Mr D. Seem to remember watching him on one at the Pierce Simon / Hoad weekend, not long before Brian Fowler got him on a Beamish
-
No mate - Tiger Cubs are better looking
-
To quote a well known US Cyclist
'Its not about the bike'
Can't see DL moving, but forget about which production machine may be best. DL hasn't ridden a production Montesa since the start of 2K.
Sure HRC can deliver the goods in most sports, but they don't own 4-stroke technology - Mr Rossi has proved that this year. Everts has also proved it in MX
What this will come down to is pure
-
What's the news on the 'other' versions ?
I had understood that there would be three levels of kit available, I 've only seen one. Got my scout in Japan looking out for news on the japanese language HRC site.
I'm sure Mitani-san will have some parts up for the 4t soon.

In my humble opinion the difference between th IRC and the Michelin is most noticeable in Mud.
The IRC seems to work better, I think, due to a stiffer sidewall, although I agree the rubber compound feels softer. I agree that somehow it also seems to last longer.
Down here a good edge is a major advantage in a Winter trial, a couple of trials and the edge will go and the mud performance really declines.
I prefer a michelin in rocky trials, wet or dry. Having tried both I think its marginally better in the wet and head and shoulders in the dry.
-
Can someone remind me of the date ?
I might be up with the outlaws on that weekend - and it's only a short run down from the Toon.
-
The Road Race boys have a mercury switch to shut off the fuel if the bike goes down.
Don't forget that the injection system runs under higher pressure than a gravity fed carb, you have to shut the engine down somehow - most likely the HRC engineers have given it some thought and testing
-
Is there any 'betting' on the outcome ?
Be nice to get down to Ladbrokes/William Hill and get some money on David Knight ! Probably won't get great odds though
-
Hmm....fork tubes look like they're plain black
