  1. No doubt Cabestany is a world class rider, but apparently he has trouble overcoming being nervous - not just a few 'jitters' but it totally affects his results. (I can't begin to imagine what it must be like at that level) Of the IWTC rounds I have seen on TV, he looks totally focussed this year - almost like he's a different rider, and has been getting the results he deserves. Like to see him 'mix it up a bit' and create a great end to the indoor season. The Outdoor should be interesting - what kind of shape will the 4RT be in come the 17th April ? If Raga or Cabestany can bag the first couple of rounds its going to be a hellava season for us spectators.
  2. Chris, You should really try the iridium plug. I know you're not convinced, but at least give it a try, at
  3. Put one in as soon as I got the bike ! BPR5EIX available from: http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/
  4. The 'mod' is to add an additional flywheel weight. The theory goes that it slows down how quickly the engine picks up speed at the bottom end but when you rev it out it will tend to get away from you as the engine takes longer to slow down as it has more rotating inertia. I think Haven do the flywheel kits.
  5. I've just been reading the Trials Competition article on the 'Lightning Special', really impressive piece of work, but you have to wonder how much it has really cost to reduce the weight of a standard Raga Replica by 11lbs ? Lots of the parts are off the shelf, but I'm sure the machining of the forks and the titanium front pipe bumped the price up. I make that a new 'dry' weight of an impressive 61.45Kgs - must be like riding a heavy bicycle Makes me wonder at what point is light, too light ? Should I go on a diet ?, it's going to be a lot cheaper than spending any money on my bike
  6. Maybe they should make a Toni Bou Replica and call it a.... 'Raga Beta' Please accept my sincere apologies for this very poor attempt at a bit of humour !
  7. Liam and the Mighty Atom were already a good distance apart by they got to Seymours, only the third group. Can't tell who was pressing on and who was hanging back.
  8. That's the best plug you could use. The Mont needs the BPR (P = Protruding Electrode) (R= Resistor). The EIX gives the best spark in low rev (i.e low voltage) conditions. Had the same ONE in my Monts for 2 years !
  9. Don't put the type approval number from the GasGas paperwork on the form. Trials and Enduro bikes are exempt from type approval in the UK - put 'Exempt, Trials bike' in the box. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm "Motorcycle Type Approval Since the 17th of June 2003 there has been a change in the way Motorcycles are registered... Customers wishing to register motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles (including quad bikes, sometimes known as ATVs) are required to produce evidence of type approval (TA), unless they meet with an exemption. Current exemptions include: Slow vehicles, not designed to exceed 6km/h; Vehicles intended for pedestrian control; Vehicles intended for use by the physically handicapped; Tractors and machines, used for agricultural or similar purposes; Vehicles intended for use in competitions, both on and off the road i.e. trial or enduro bikes. Vehicles over 10 years old" No need for inspection it says so on their web page !
  10. Change the dust caps at the same time, I figure that the seals and the caps are made of a similar material therefore have a similar life. Its a few pounds extra and can easily be done when you're doing the seals.
  11. Now I know we are talking Beta here, but having just done a GG set, you may find the Ryan Young - Sherco Seal Replacement service guide very useful To be found at: http://www.shercousa.com/pdfs/sherco_fork_...placement-1.pdf The only special tube that you need is a piece of plastic tube to drive the new seal into the fork leg - needs to be at least 38 mm internal diameter and slightly less than 48mm outside diameter and 10 or so inches long.
  12. I had a set done by these guys, I think they were around the
  13. From memory its perfect, fits straight on no bother. Use the AJP caliper, don't use Hebo, brake line does fit so well.

    Repsol Montesa

Looks like the motor has gone up about an inch, when compared with Robin Luscombe's outfit. Not sure about all the grey carbon, it doesn't really say CARBON the way that the black, or Kevlar weave does.
  15. Thinking a bit further ahead, is the Peak, a Classic or Novogar round this year ? Its a spot on trial and it was sadly missed last year.
  16. I thought the middle lane was the ladies lane ?

    B Class Riders

Because some of us might be a bit more mature in years and size And we did our time on TY80s and 175s. Your counterparts in Spain and France seem to like the new regs, and you know what, there are developing a good number of s**t hot riders. If all the B's are all on 125s then the course is the same for all of you, so the section plotters will set the course to take marks of a 125. Whilst we are in transition then of course a 250 is an advantage. When the A's are on 125s the same applies, courses will be set to beat bike and rider, sections will change as a result - tighter and more technical. Riders will develop more skills because they can't just hide behind a bigger capacity bike - like many of us Adults do. When you grow up you will learn that size doesn't matter, and its not how big it is its what you do with it!
  18. There'll be a few people that rode at the Wycombe OTC on Sunday, that got beaten by a BSA Bantam thats based on Scorpa angles That makes at least two us then

    B Class Riders

There's a lot of Adults who would probably admit to being over biked (i.e get better results on a smaller capacity machine) - me included. The bigger motor isn't a substitute for basic skills, developing advanced skills, in fact it makes you lazy, point it and squirt and it will get up just about anything - is that developing skill and bike craft ? I don't think so ! The TY175 was THE B class bike of the late 70s/early 80s, and comparing it with the 250s of the time you understand why (less power, lighter and smaller for a start). It gave a steady progression through from C to A class, where kids could develop their skills to a point where they were 'as good as the bike', if they were at the top of the B's. Many a Club trial could be won outright by a Schoolboy on a 175, when there were plenty of Adults on 250s and 350s in the field. Todays 125s are far superior to the TY175 and all of the 250s of that era - even taking section severity/ the evolution of the sport into account. A visit to an UEM Youth 125 Round will put you straight on this. The sections don't feature the BIG steps, that may feature on the Youth/Expert route at a British Championship round, but still demand a huge amount of skill from the riders. Riders like Gubain, Wigg, Gomez, Grattarola, etc who can REALLY ride a 125, will no doubt go on to better things, while the kid who got dumped on the 250 on his 13th birthday is still struggling. To quote Lance Armstrong yet again "It's not about the bike"
  20. Is it registered ? Try Carol nash or Norwich Union Direct. Both insure trials bike but must be registered. IMHO Registration is a good thing it gives the bike an identity, so buying/selling is less mysterious. Less likely to be a stolen bike if the right paperwork is present. Wouldn't be a bad thing to have all bikes registered with the DVLA, then those that don't want to go on the road have SORN (Off the Road Notification) so don't need to tax it every year. Just a thought

    Dust Seals ?

Just doing my seals on an 03 Pro. I have seen a few people with different 'dust seal' rather than just the stock part fitted, the part I'm after is the one with the circular spring that keeps the tension on the dust seal against the slider, hopefully to be more efficient than the stock part that seems to loose its seal after a while Any ideas on what it's from ?
  23. I was lucky to have attended the last WTC at Hawkstone in 2000, three Brits in the top four on day one and three in the top 15 on day two (Jarvis finished injured on the Saturday and didn't compete) There's a definite advantage to be had for our 'lads' in playing at home. So I hope that the British World Round is a massive success and that the Promoters do make a handsome profit. Why ? We need a WTC round (or two) on the mainland every year and I think that L+M have the experience and expertise to run a top class event, get the sections right, get the promotion right and potentially generate some interest from a wider spectator catchment and who knows one day maybe even catch the attention of those TV Execs.
  24. I have just got my Registration Number back today, for an '03 Pro. Providing you get the documents from Shirty, you don't need an MOT as the bike will be registered as new (I have a 54 plate issued). Munch has posted the necessary documents.

    04 Clutch Mod

I've seen a number of 03 Pros for sale that state 04 Clutch mod fitted. Having studied the two parts manuals I can only see that the plates (steel and friction ) are a different part number and there's a pair of roller bearings used instead of a bush in the centre of the basket onto the gearbox shaft. Is this the mod ? As I was planning to get the cover off to check the measurements of the clutch pack, is it worth looking at the bearing replacement and plates while I'm at it. My clutch is heavy and seems to drag a bit. (probably due to the oil not being replaced for some time - the drain plug had to be 'easi outed'- and a lot of sludge on the magnetic pick-up) If its worth doing any idea how much the plates cost ? or what is the bearing number (i.e not the GG part number) I've also seen 'water pump mod', but can't see any part numbers that have changed. Finally does the radiator cap really need to be turned clockwise to remove as it shows on the cap ? Just a new boy finding his way
