the stop with penelty is a modified ITSA rule..
you can stop. but if you put a foot down while stopped? its a 5.
as well. as if you put a foot down and stop while doing so..its also a 5.
its that whole human kickstand thing.
a few years ago.
AHRMA had listed its no stop.. stopping of foward motion..
then had it explained as long as suspension was loaded,{moving} or a wheel was moving{slipping}
it was foward motion,
they then took it further like FIM has it now..even a split second stop is a 5.
how i scored..
if the rider is moving, or changing up, suspension loaded, body moving on the bike, {floater, ect} or the rear wheel is moving...{spinning in the mud, loss of traction} and foward motion is recovered without a dab its clean.
i gave a 1thousand, 2 thousand 3 thousand....5 count.
seeing this is a heart felt issue, i dont see it staying around, i belive it will hurt more then help the future of the sport, at least here in the states.
riders will still ride, just in other venues, like in the past, some rules arent very well thought out by those who put them on the books.
even worse...NATC FIM, are pushing some other rulings..that you have to prove you can ride , before you can ride Pro, Exp or Adv. even if youv been riding that class for years, at the national level.
a rider grading group so to speak..
imagine, sending in your money, packing up you bike, and gear, taking time off work, driving 2000 miles, spending money on fuel, motel ect, then have somebody say...you cant ride, your not good enough, you dropped 80 points last year at an event...too bad.
-
i have this DVD, and have loaned it out so many times, if you just use the basics that Mic is going over, and apply them..you have have the battle one..
-
try and ride knees out and centered on the bike, light bar grip pressure, take you time, spend a few hours practicing tight figure 8s. cornering,is were everyone gets points..
hook up with your local club, and go to every trials school that you can, do it with an open mind, not with the,,,iv been riding all my life and i already know it additude,
when you start to get the basics down, youll find you will be a better MX big bike rider all around.
most of the basics can can be learned with a dead engine, balance, peg pressure, the way you stand on the pegs, and set your bars ect, will help you more then any video.
im sure your club will have many older ex pro type riders that would be glad to work with you on the basics of Trials.
once you get it going...your in for a fun adventure.. good friends, good times, and 2 wheels..
-
use a tire stem, drill a hole that the stem will fit through at the top of the cover, with a small all steel or alloy stem, install it with some silicone sealer, remove the stem core, when your riding, put a small stem cap on the the stem, wash after ride, and then when your not riding the bike, remove the stem cap.
i used to do this on my vintage bikes with a SEM or Moto splat..keeps the moisture from building up.
dont use gasket sealer, just a factory paper gasket is all thats needed.
if you drill a hole on the bottom, every time you ride through a deap puddle or creek..youll kill the bike..
-

ITSA and AHRMA are not AMA affiliated, AHRMA lost is AMA backing years ago, money and politcs ruined it, i doubt ITSA has any interest in AMA as well,
ITSA is a small club, but will likely grow with time, AMA does have a TS {twin shock} class that runs the clubman line,
as well as runs the Vintage days in Ohio as well.
i really dont think AMA has alot of real vested interest in Trials from what i see, NATC really controls what happens nationally in the U.S.
its a toss up if No Stop will stay in FIM, if it does, you can bet it will effect the NATC rules as well in the next couple seasons,
any state level club that hosts a National event will likely take on the NATC rules as they are set.
nation wide ill bet we have less then 20 Pro riders, id have to sit and think of the names,
the bread and butter of the events is the support classes, you can look for yourself and see the amount of riders that compete Nationally,
locally id bet its Intermediat and advance classes that are the money makers..unless some of the younger expert level kids start to step up to the pro line in the next few years, the pro class will get smaller before it starts to grow.

i watched the same FIM video...notice...not one section is really a world class type section, nothing on the video is really much harder then the upper advance line.
when we all know that Raga, and the rest can ride 3 times harder sections,
i understand it was a how to video, but most the cornering ect was made with hops that really didnt need to be made,
all but a couple of them could have been made with no hop, and no stop at all..
i could ride most of the stuff they had in the video, and im not close to the tallent they have on that video.
to be honest, when they gave a clean rather then a 5 on a couple of them, i didnt really see the differance, and iv scored no stop for many years, this will sure be a score keepers nightmare for sure,
i was under the impression that as long as the suspension was loaded, and a wheel was moving, it was foward motion.. but it seems i was wrong, a slight stop for any reason..is a 5..yikes. so...a side hop is now a 5 as well? unless your moving foward while doing so.. sheesh..i dont this working out very well.
-
iv been on a Beta since the TR32...never had an issue..good reliable bike,
you can get a nice used Rev 3 for that price range, and thats a great bike to start on..
hook up with your local Trials club, and ride with others at your skill level.
being an X Mx racer will hurt you more then help.
forget everything youv learned on a MX bike..
-
iv been on a Beta since the TR32,,,and have never ever had an issue with the Carbs,
i have a 2013 4T thats not even a month old, i installed the high alt, spring, and it works..
with the Issues with FI on dirt bikes in the past, and the one trials bike that uses it now, and they cant make it work right, and likely the average rider wouldnt know how to adjust or tweek for Alt, ect...why make it harder then it needs.
my only complaint? change the 4T frames so you can access the float bowl for jet change if needed.
right now, you have to remove the whole ass end of the bike and remove the carb to change it.
-
iv rode both the TY 250 and the TY 175.
the 175 is hands down a better trials bike..
ride one..then tell us what you think.
for a long time i never understood the attraction to the TY175s...figured the 250 had more power ect..
i rode a 175...i was wrong...i understand it now.. i ride at 9,000feet and up.. and the 175 has more then enough grunt to pull my big butt anyplace i need it.. and then some.
everyone i know that for years rode a 250, once they ride the 175, they soon own one.
-
welcome...
would love to have a TR32 again...wonderful bike.
-
fuel injection.....yuk.... if it aint broke....dont fix it.
-
i re tuned my riding style back to as much no stop as possible last year, i wanted to get back to the basics again,
at the level i ride, it actually helped my scores in the long run, and made me look at the lines different,
it was a hard learning curv to do so, but i have rode no stop for years, and then got into stop and hop a few years ago, and felt it hurt the basics i know so well, that i always did good at,
unless they tone down and make the sections about expert to upper advance level, no stop will fail.
no matter how you see it...its a step backwards in the sport.. it wont improve bike sales, or bring new riders into the sport, it will likely push riders into other venue, and hurt new motorcycle sales.
like i said, want to sell bikes, aim then at the int,Adv riders, they are the ones that spend money to travel, ride ect..and most dont care about the medal, at the end of the day.
-
the older i get, then better i used to ride..
at 50, i can see a section in my minds eye, and how to ride it as well, my body just doesnt have the skills anymore to ride big stuff, advance is about the limit of crazy stuff i can handle anymore, i still have to work on Monday, and it takes a lot longer to heal up then it did in my 20,s
but, i can sure tape out a sweet section, that will make the best skilled rider put a foot down without endangering lives, it was fun helping someone..
keep in mind, most these young riders, have never rode non stop, and have been trained how to stop and hop since being little guys,
they havnt had the pleasure of riding big rocks on an old 247 Cota, so its a big learning curv, ill give him credit for wanting to learn, how to smooth out, and ride no stop, even with some tight hard stuff, he eventually cleaned everything i set up, but one...bested it with a 1.
-
so, yesterday i worked with someone that thinking about riding in the world round,
i set some sections that were tough no stop, he could clean them easy riding stop,
took a few times, and some arm pump to make them no stop.
we played with a couple splatters, and he rode them no stop, very fun to watch..
not so impressive to watch a rider i know can ride big stuff, ride basic expert not pro level sections no stop.
his words.....no stop sux. i agree
-
lol.
the Euro TLR 250 is 10 times the trials bike a Reflex is, i had 2 of the TLR 250,s sold one for what i paid for both..
my TLR is one of the best twin shock trials bikes iv ever been on, i ride it hard, and push its limits, im 200 lbs, and it hauls my butt up crazy stuff without an issue.
-
ordered a 2T fender and air box cover, and fitted it to my 2013 4T..had to drill a hole at the very front tip, but it installed nicely, easy to access my air filter now, without removing the fender,
with the lip under the airbox now trimmed, and plastic screws on each side, so with the rare dismount, the fender wont break off at the end..
nice upgrade, should work for any 2009 to 2013 Evo 4T..
-
love it,.. E start would be nice...
-
90% of off road riders today have no clue what Trials is, over 40 riders maybe do to on any sunday.
that being said.
most if not all Trials clubs are guilty of the so called secret squirrel club attitude.
as a newbie you would have to do a couple days searching via bike shops, and the net to find the club, then even more to get a sced, then...unless your good at GPS reading find the event, and maybe,,,just maybe if your lucky...find a couple other riders that would welcome a new person into the club.
yea yea,..i know....ooooh we all welcome new riders,. ok whatever...why is it that most times, when i see a new rider, or one thats been out for a while, i make an effort to shake hands, and welcome them...
and see no one else doing so,
this has been an on going issue with the sport, to some respect or another.
so, if FIM , NATC or AMA or who ever really want more riders, more interest....try this
get a booth at every off season event you can,. be it arena cross, monster trucks, sportsman shows ect,, have flyers made up with your Clubs event sced, have fun days with a trials school, hosted by friendly advanced and up level riders...
set a kids section at every event, make an effort to get those kids on bikes, be they electric, gas or strider level,
if we would make an effort to step out of the shadows of the secret squirrel club,..and let the common riders know who and what we are, and when a new rider shows, make sure we make them welcome into our family of trials....i guarantee we would have more interest, more checkers, and a bigger involvment in the sport..
changing rules, will do nothing but drive what riders we have to other venues...iv seen it time and time again....i remember AHRMA was the king of vintage....now what happen? egos, and lack of growth, all but killed AHRMA... they had less then 30% of the classes with no rider to get year end awards...blind rulings, by people that dont even like or ride Trials...
how may times have you been at a gas station with your modern bike on a trailer or hitch rack, and have someone ask.....what kinda bike is that? why dont it have a seat? every time i go out, i get that..
if you put the sport out there, more people will want to ride, more riders, more bikes,
chase riders away,,less riders....less bikes...basic math
some back ground...every year, i spend well over 50 grand for the pleasure of dropping a 9,000.00 Italian motorcycle in the rocks, and take a chance at destroying my body with a hard fall, i also Take the time and spend my own money to Trials master at least 2 events, one modern and one vintage, so that my friends can enjoy dropping high dollar European motorcycles in the rocks... i also enjoy vintage Trials, so i take the time to restore a rare museum piece, and drop it in the rocks as well.. to find other riders that want to spend that type of money, and time..takes marketing.
not a rule change...want to get the common man to ride FIM? make 2 more classes, below the Pro level they have right now...i would ride, as well as others that would love the chance to ride a world round, some would even travel all over the world to do so, spend money, to drop a motorcycle in the rocks..
-
not gonna find many {real} TLRs in the states..less then 50 TLR 250s were shipped here, non were brought in by Honda, twice the bike as a TL250.
really dont think the TLR 250 is a old guys bike, but being an official old guy now, and i ride one. guess that makes it so.
lots of work and money will have to go into a Reflex to make it a Trials bike.
hard to beat the TY 175..reliable, easy to ride, and so on.
