  1. Also added to what Woody has just said , at a certain period in the early to mid 70's Bultaco produced/ exported bikes in kit form to get around the heavy spanish export laws/costs at that time. They would export an engine seperately from as chassis kit in batches , so the importer would take one engine and one chassis kit and build and sell the bike like that. It was very common to have a new Sherpa of that time with a different engine and frame number but not to far apart but not the same. So no i wouldn't hurry into stamping the same number on the frame!!!

    New Ossa

Who ever designed the 2010 Yamaha YZF 450 didn't thnk so!! I bet James stewart new about this a year ago , it obviously isn't a gimmick to him!
  3. All bultaco frame numbers are on the right hand side of the headstock not left as in your picture.
  4. At least the old JCM fuel tank was transparent and easier to fil!!

    New Ossa

Nice to see that OSSA are keeping with developing the 2 stroke , and showing that you don't have to go down the 4 stroke route instead to change evolution. What will the future hold ? Proving that if the bike performs as good as it looks and then some, all the other trials manufacturers should be seriously worried!!! Bou to OSSA in 2011?????? - you never know!!!

    New Ossa

Absolutely awsome!! Probably the best trials bike i have ever seen! Makes the 'new' 2010 Sherco look ancient and already out of date!!! I am so pleased that someone has finally had the balls and pushed the boat out properly and released a top class original product rather than copying other ideas and making something completely original and on top of that one of the best engineered and thought out bikes i have ever seen. Bring on the new Bultaco......................!
  7. Call them to find out....
  8. Run 40:1 fuel mixture Only use a semi synthetic modern off road competition 2 stroke oil and use the highest octane fuel you can get (usually Shell V-Power 99 octane) DO NOT use fully synthetic oil This is the standard recommendation as stated by Bultaco UK Don't worry about using unleaded fuel - have done it for years in twinshock's with no problems Thanks
  9. It is not the usual Happytime suit of a later period ,this had happytime down each lenghth of the sleeve only. Look closely on the sleeve and it has a "No. 1 Trials Team" badge which was Vestys own trials parts company that he formed round that time and a small Happytime badge below it. The suit is from a different year to the bike possibly '77. Happytime was owned by a friend of Vestys back in Finland but not sure what it actually was. Yes Sunoco is a US oil company.
  10. Hi Ross , if you use the correct type new Venhill clutch cable it has an oring on the cable where it fits tightly in the case along with two seperate inner and outer rubber covers that cover this up. Fitted correctly with a little bit of grease to help the cable loctae (without knackering the oring) and it will never leak , only if a jetwash is pointed directly at it when not fitted properly. Ta
  11. I run a breather hose on the gearbox filler looped up and back down through the brake light switch bracket on the frame - never have any problems Like wise i run a hose from the mag breather running over the back of the engine and comes out in front of the float bowl just above the swingarm pivot -NEVER had any problems with water getting into the magneto- Reply to MALC- I run a Bultaco condensor (easier to mount as it has bracket attatched) up under the tank near the HT coil on the frame. Benefits- Quick and easy to change , runs cooler and you can run a second one next to it (not connected to wire) and change the connector wire over if it goes wrong. This was a common mod done to many Bultaco's back in the day in bigger trials like the SSDT. Malc if you know who i am - think about it and you will! drop me an email if you need anymore info. Ta
  12. Not quite original though is it!! Yes Marky G i think some one is definately taking the @@@@!!! Even if it was 100% genuine and completely original it still would not be worth half the asking price. I think this one for the Honda experts to answer..................................
  13. As on the APICO/VESTY UK stand at this years UK Dirt bike show at Stonleigh- Vesty's 1976 works Bultaco Sherpa- Go check it out if you are going tomorrow See also the SUNOCO riding suit !-
  14. I read the spec and details of the new bike as below , but not sure about the supposed better idea's- "New design, the overall weight has been reduced and the centre of gravity has been centralised and lowered to give better overall performance" Doesn't look any better to me. "Air Filter Box: This is in the normal position of the fuel tank to give more efficiency of the air system, whilst making the position of the air box more practical when riding in water. " - Not too sure about that , having water get in to the fuel tank -very practical "Front Forks: New Ceriani front forks with a new MICRO CROM treatment "- They look the same as the last few years "Completely new chassis, narrower and lighter"- Not at the back- the rear end looks like its it needs to go on a diet "Re-designed - more rigid front mudguard " - Now even shorter = will let more crap into new radiator (with bad grille) - good idea! "New, narrower radiator in the form of a
  15. I don't se any problems with that as you are using period (pre monoshock) year engine and frame , you are not using a mono engine or chassis or making the old frame or engine radically different so as to be like a modern bike. In some if the trials i do there is a guy who rides an SWM with a Honda TL 125 type engine in , it seems to be quite good. As long as people dont take the p@@@ and take things way too far i dont see a problem.
  16. Route the clutch cable through the gusset on the right hand side. The clutch arm being longer was a common mod , but you can play around with different springs, ther are about 6 different pressures available ,but i run 4 soft with 2 medium. Any softer and the clutch will slip badly. G/box oil is 1200ml of either 10w40 or i use EP90 which is thicker and eliminates the notchy gearbox feel, but i change mine every 2-3 trials. 2 ways to tell what cc your engine is- 1. Take off the head and measure across the bore- if it is about 76.00mm or more then its a 276.6cc (320 but also known as a 280) if it it is massively smaller then it could be a 240. 2. Or ring Peter Knight (Rotax Man) 01761 414106 and tell him your engine number - he should also be able to tell you exactly when it was made. As for the water in the engine/gbox the clutch case and also centre cases are only sealed with sealant so this may have come away and let water in. Also check the 2 grommets on the out side of the clutch case and also the oil filler behind the barrell . see how you go......
  17. 360mm centre to centre What year is your 320?
  18. I was told that the 4RT was maybe- eventually to be marketed and branded as a Honda and sold through Honda dealers- Hence that Sandifords hasn't been a Honda dealer for a while now and is now no longer the Montesa importer!
  19. Just so not to confuse people- the std shock length as stated of 340mm is the measurement from the centre of the bushes ,not the total length of the shock itself. All shocks are measured like this.
  20. See HERE on TODO trial website Its in Spanish but can be translated if you have VISTA and the transaltion option on google toolbar See the article "Honda Cierra cadena BCN"
  21. The CORRECT wiring for Sherpa's- Originally there should have been 4 wires as follows- You should have 3 wires coming from the L/T coil (nearest to front of bike)- Black- from L/T coil to points and then to HT coil condensor also branches off this Green goes to EARTH only on stator or originally to frame Red is for HORN ONLY - if not used then cut/blank off The other R/H coil with a yellow wire is for lights ONLY this can be blanked off or coil taken off completely it seems the last post is very confusing!!!!
