Actually that was my first thought then i looked at it,
NOT that i want to steal any of your thunder grib
Im getting worried about this piston now, this one does have abit missing out of the skirt but no windows, and there is the pitting in the bore.
My dad is going to a chroming plant to get some advice, then to talk to the shop.
Hopefully will all work out alright
-
Cheers !
i went and watched an event in ...something wood in grimethorpe, was good.
But what do people do, do people meet up? and ride for fun, or really just on organised events, and people go to there own practice spots that they know??
-
i have a 1979 175cc,
abit of an odd model !
but dont know too much abit it
the 250 is really nice tho
-
-
Right a quick question on this side while i look into the piston and a picture of bore pitting
here is a picture of the casing, there is a plug directly under the area of the crank and the main bearing
WHY ??
there is no oil there is there? the gearbox oil is seperate and its a wet clutch
So its a drain plug ?
why and when would i use it ? im abit confused
-
EXACTLY !
ill go and talk to the shop who got me the stuff, there a well established place, but i wonder if they have overlooked this,
there is a bit missing out of the skirt on one side, but im at uni now, so cant sneek a peek.
PROBLEM
the bore has just been plated and matched to this piston !! is its wrong is not my fault surely !! ??
can the piston be machined ?? to have a window put in ?
-
happens alot on old montesa's.
i was told to lap on the flywheel with grinding paste, clean it up then put back together,
but a new washer will def. help if you want to try that first
-
Ive just moved to a hamlete outside stocksbridge and dont know the area at all,
im just finishing building my bike, and have never been in a trials club.
Does the stocksbridge club have a website?
what normally happens ? do people meet up on a weekend and go riding? id like to learn how best to look after my rebuilt bike, and obviously tips,
and id like to one day qualify to be an observer... if you 'qualify'
Im only 21
-
ok, going home this weekend for my 21st !! which i already had on valentines day !!
the pitting its....it wasnt there before but its been acid dipped etc, and its chromed over piston,
ill talk to the shop. and find out,
will take pictures and post on monday
i JUST want to finish it now !!
-
Could you quickly point out to me what the difference is with these throttles,
i understand that a slow action will be just that slow action !
lol
but what does it do
-
OH
btw,
ive had the bore replated, looks good, but the surface is pitted, i mean there is pitting on the top of the bore and the actual barrel where the chrome is.
Is this normal ? is it ok??????
Thanks Matt
-
Right,
Quite a big update to come,
I will include pictures, but need to get them off my mobile as digi camera is broke !!
There is one concern that i have....well two acually.
1 - the piston, the orginal one is 'windowed' meaning there is a window in the side so that i can see the little end bearing,
--- my new piston does not have this new window, IS this a problem ?
My train of thought is that, becuase the intake is not into the crankcase and is into the bore, Could two things happen with my new piston?
A.....- my little end bearing does not get lubricated due to no window?
b..... my brother tells me that windowed pistons help with crankcase pressures, and if a windowed piston is std. then not having one could blow my gaskets !!!
ive just spent nearly
-
yes,
to voice everyone else,
Cheers !
-
Glad the result ended well.
The same happened to my dads bike, parked a car infront of two bikes, in a tiny garage,
and they nicked them ! they didnt move the car though, so must have physically lifted the bikes above the car !! however this was in the 1980's. but theives will always try hard.
How did you get the honda back? envolve the police? or other means?
well done !
-
My dad has decided to clean my casing while im away....
..
hmm..... i appreciate it, but now the 'tube' that the selector forks runs in has fallen out
i have pictures and stuff, so is it a problem? ie. its shimmed in ?
or can i just pop it back in?
Thought id get some wider advice before i go back and assess the damage !! lol
-
yeah i thought that,
just thought the ease of the hydrolic clutch meant you wouldnt have to remove the springs.
see how the clutch copes with the newly beefed engine !
-
dont you love it when you get surprised !
very diplomatic Bungle.
good luck with the sale
-
yes if you have the cash to buy a newish one,
BUT.... my dad bought the bike for
-
**** !
a mudguard for my 1993 GG,...is about
-
i meant knock out the bearing not know it out ....
-
There are four springs in atm.
i havnt taken the other two out,...that pic was before i took the clutch apart. there are only four springs in there, quite even distribution. in the pic you can just see the spring of the forth one at the bottom.
Regarding splitting the case,
--i used a flywheel puller to....remove the flywheel cost about
-
Case split,
and crank now at the shop, having the rod kit put on and truing was
