  1. Check out the extra large radiator in Raga's bike in the photo section of the European Championship [page1] It may cure the overheating problems with my 300. It looks like the radiator would have to come out before you could remove the head or barrel
  2. I have an 05 300 and mine definitely runs hot during trials, particularly if its a short lap and the sections are close together, it loses its tune and starts to rattle/pink. I have tried all sorts of fixes, petrol and jetting but I personally think the cooling system doesn't handle the extra heat generated by the 300

    340

Mich ,interesting to read your views. I can remember having a 158,which I really didn't like at all. I struggled to come to grips with the higher pegs, lower handlebar height and shorter wheelbase. I only rode it for a few months and eventually went back to, in my opinion, the more stable 159, which for me was an easier bike to ride. Did you use a standard 158 frame or was it modified. Cheers
  4. Moulder I thought the 300 had a different ignition [Ducati?]and a computer was required to change the setting, I have not had a chance to look at the ignition unit yet. Thanks for the prompt reply
  5. I have an 05 300 and would like to change to the more agressive ignition setting, I believe I need a laptop to do this, any help would be appreciated, how much difference does this make to the power delivery, Cheers
  6. I was pretty sure the works 2 stroke montys used them up until this year.
  7. Is the Dellorto flatslide carbie a viable alternative to the Keihin, what type of power do they produce and why were they dropped from the pro series, Cheers
  8. Thanks for the prompt reply
  9. JTT do you have to take the flywheel off to do this, not exactly sure where this pickup is, any chance of a photo, by the way do all pro's have the same flywheel puller or are the Ducati ones different CHEERS

    Help 290

My 04 290 has what appears to be a small amount of radiator fluid coming out of a tiny hole [in front of the water pump ,but on the underside of the case- 2mm in dia] It is not happening all the time, any ideas before I pull it apart Thanks
  12. Raga's bike also appears to have a completely different set of forks on it, as well the two hoses that exit from the water pump appear to cross over and head off in different directions to the stock bike- maybe different cylinder and or radiator - anyone else notice this
  13. Given Cabestanys fantastic start to the 2005 Indoor Championship [he has just won a round] What is the chance of sherco producing a Cabestany Special [similar to the Raga special] Possible specs 300cc , Keihin carb, fully adjustable rear shock, programable ignition, lighter weight, any thoughts
  14. Hi , I agree , I personally find the 325 to be a more responsive motor than the 340, on another topic -a test I have on the 340 says that they made the head angle steeper and the bike shorter , however measuring a friends 340 it is the same dimensions as the 199A. Does anyone know the facts? [ his bike however would appear to be one of the last made as it has an older front end in it - tapered fork tubes and no clamping bolts in the top triple clamp ]
  15. I dont want to cause any ill feelings, but I must agree with Nigel in terms of Bultaco reliability and ease of restoration- I have rebuilt one 199a and am in the process of doing another right now and have had no problems at all with parts, gearbox problems-never heard of that one! I started competing in 1971 and have had 13 Sherpas, 3 Montys, 4 Italjets, 3 mono yams, 2 Gassers, 4 Betas and currently 04 290 Sherco, of all the twin shocks I have owned the Bultacos were the most reliable - Cheers
  16. By making the Indoor Championship available to only the top six outdoor riders creates in my opinion a couple of problems,For the sport to grow and manufacturers to continue to be involved, they need to be competing in the indoor championship as well , this year only three of the manufacturers will be there, Beta have lost there right to field a rider as Cabestany will be riding a Sherco, leaving 3 montys and 2 Gassers. The gap between these riders and the rest will widen as they get the benefit of the 'additional' competition at this elite level, secondly the outdoor results vs indoor results are variable at best. When Cabestany won in 02 he had just finished 6th in the outdoors, The two years Raga has won he had finished 4th in the outdoors , Fuji the current outdoor champ has only won one indoor event! Would it be better for all the FACTORY TEAMS to field their top say two or three riders[10 or 15 competitors] and to run a qualifying heat to eliminate the poorer performers. This way more than the top 6 in the world get a crack at it, the fans get to see their brand of bike competing
  17. Very happy to see he didnt sign with Honda, Now all we need is one of the Honda riders to jump ship and hop on a Scorpa and we would have a competitive rider on all five brands of bike, something that can only be good for the sport. I also wonder where this leaves Beta as they will now not be able to contest the Indoor World Championship, leaving it as a three make series, something I believe is not good for sport.

    Sherco Kit

    Brake Pads

Just a quick question, I have an 04 290 with the standard brake pads in it. I find in wet conditions they require a couple of applications to reach peak performance, Has anyone tried any other brands - particularly in the wet. A few years ago I had a similar problem with a Beta , which was fixed by puting a set of BRAKING pads in- however I can't find out which model pads I used. By the way I have found the Sherco to be the best allround bike I have ridden, excellent stability/balance, great steering , great power, light weight, trouble free, good brakes, oops except in the wet.
  22. Hi, been through the same problem myself, all the tanks are the same shape, 199 Red, 199A Blue , 199B painted blue, If you are restoring a bike it is very difficult 'impossible' to get a good finish on these plastic tanks, All types of paints and lacquers will stay on for a limited time , but once the tank has petrol in it and begins to breathe the paint will bubble and eventually peel off, Myself and a couple of mates have had exact replica ones made out of fibreglass - they look great , can be painted and appear to be stronger than either an original Bultaco fibreglass or plastic tank. Cheers Greg

    300 Pro

Thanks again for all the replys, I did notice on Todo Trial [a couple of weeks ago] that they had an article on the Indoor Trial Des Nations- the article stated that Ragas bike had a different clutch in it and if I have understood the translation the bike had also been 'cut' to make it launch better. PS I have been able to ride a friends 250 03 Pro and I must admit I am not that keen on the bike[basically not much low to mid range power compared to my 321] however the light weight is appealing. No one around here has a 300, the best bike I have ridden to date is an 04 290 sherco, heaps of power right off idle, revs cleanly ,and suspension is a big improvement on earlier models. Cheers

    300 Pro

Thanks for the replys, do the 300's have the flat slide carbie?
