  1. Just took possession of my new 199B project today. Always had an itch to scratch when it came to the 340, 6 speed Sherpa's. So after nearly a quarter of a century "looking out" for one, I need look no longer. Yeah, there is lots to be done, but heaps of new ideas to try out. Electronic ignition, Dellorto or Mikuni carb, what suspension set up will I go for etc, etc..... Will keep you all updated on here on my progress

    Sherpa lights

    Have you tried Hugh's Bultaco, www.bultacoclassic.com ? http://www.bultacoclassic.com/electrical-amp-ignitions.html
  3. Many thanks oldjohn, I checked out the Castrol website http://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/products/motorcycle-and-scooter/engine-oil/power1-brand/power1.html and they list several types of your recommended oil. Of the various types 10w/30, 10w/40, or 15w/50 etc, which would go for?
  4. Genuinely saddened to hear of Larry's passing. A true gent, who was always ready to share his knowledge. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
  5. Welcome to the forum jontribe. A quick glance at your photo indicates to me that the bike is a Model 199, circa 1978/79 which was the last of the red Sherpa T's and not a 199A which where the first of the blue Sherpa T's in 1980/81. A give away clue is lack of the reenforcing gusset on the top of the swinging arm. Also the 199 didn't have a cut frame to facilitate the bash plate. Have a look through the following link http://www.bultacoclassic.com/buidch.html the pdf attachment will have all the bultaco models and years. Bultaco's can have the shifter on both the right and the left. This is as a result of a law brought in by Uncle Sam in 1972 to protect a certain V-Twin motorcycle manufacturer in the Milwalkee area. Stating that all bikes must have a left hand side gear change, so Bulto's are "ambidextrous".
  6. I recall the gearbox breather hole on the Sherpa's (199) been located directly above the kick start shaft and to the left of where the kickstart return spring is "anchored" to the crankcase. Must try and get a photo when I'm in the garage tomorrow night and post it up.
  7. It's certainly an interesting take on a solution to the head steady problem. I'm (very) far from been an expert rider and yet I manager to break the original forked version after only a few rides. I might drop down to my local engineer's supplies shop and see if they have the rubber bushings to try and make up something similar.
  8. Nice bit of nostalgia, I have a similar place called the Slade Valley near Dublin, where I competed in my first Trial back in 1979, which I remember with similar fondness whenever I drive by. The astetics of the WES product my not be to everyones taste, however it represents a valuable alternative source of spare parts, which I know may not be concours d'elegance standard. But it will enable bikes, some now approaching 45 years old to keep running and competing and not becoming "garage queens".
  9. Just to follow up, I made enquiries with WES and they are now available through their listed dealers. I also contacted InMotion and they confirmed that they are now available and will have them listed on the website from later today.
  10. I exchanged a number of emails with WES last August and at that time they had hoped to have them available through their retail dealers in mid to late Sept '16. Also spoke with InMotion at the same time and they were hoping for the same as well. Must send a follow up email to WES
  11. None sighted, other than photo of one in the Scotish Pre'65 Programme ad.
  12. Spain and France are big places bondy, you would mind sharing the deatils? ?
  13. Cheers feetupfun, I've certainly learned something from your post, its clear that the recommendation I received back in the day was completely wrong. I definitely will not be using EP90 again, whenever I get to start my 199A rebuild this year ?
  14. I've attached a photo of a page from the original factory owners manual Interestingly enough I see they recommended 140 gearbox oil. However I've always put EP90 in my Sherpa, as that is what we use to sell in the shop back in the day when I worked for the Irish Bultaco importer.
  15. Hi Deek, Welcome to the forum. I hope that my answer will be of some use to you. I have always used Automatic Transmission Fluid commonly know as ATF for the Clutch. EP 90 for the Gearbox. I also use ATF for the Forks, springs removed and fill to 6 inches from the top. I switched to synthetic 2 stroke Putolene and mix at 50:1. Cheers and enjoy your bike.
  16. I ran my 199 on 11/47, worked a treat for me.
  17. This is a German system I came across which also includes a new flywheel https://www.powerdynamo-shop.com/shop/show_product.php?cPath=6_86&products_id=680 They appear to have a very comprehensive range for Bultaco's https://www.powerdynamo-shop.com/shop/index.php?cPath=6_86
  18. And here was me thinking this is a friendly forum
  19. Perhaps you might put up some pics of your set up as it is at present.
  20. Post up a photo, it always good to see a "before" shot

    M27 Frame Number

Yes, with such a low number your bike was definitely manufactured in 1967. It was common practice for Bultaco, not to stamp replacement frames with serial numbers.
  22. As ever many thanks for the replies. I will more than likely go with powder coating again, however using a different workshop to the one we used for the Model80.
