  1. Forgive my electrical ignorance (my skills don't go much beyond Ohm's Law and wiring a plug). I had always understood that the PRB would not work on some bikes (including mine) presumably because of a difference in the programming of the controller. From your wiring diagram it appears that it would work on any Race, just by fitting something that will deliver 0-5v to pin 15. Am I right? Your description of your hybrid design went over my head too. I get the concept. I just can't see how to translate that into real life. Any chance of part descriptions, part numbers, etc?
  2. I found the regen section very interesting. If I read it correctly you seem to be saying that the regen terminals on the controller read 0 to 5v to give progressive regen, even on models where EM say you can only have fixed regen. Am I right? Having not ridden with PRB, but liking my FRB, my ideal solution would be to keep the FRB as-is, but add a little bit of regen on throttle closed like the Dragonfly has. There are occasions when I find the EM a bit too free running. This is all on a '21 ePure Race BTW.
  3. Isn't it time there was a bike-specific forum for Mecatecno? They are real, they're here and there were two competing at the trial I did last weekend.
  4. Up to breakfast time on trial day, I just eat normally. I take a bottle of 50/50 orange juice and water to drink during the event. If it's a hot day I'll need to supplement that with more water. I don't eat during a trial: it's only 3 hours! After the trial I might be tempted by the burger van. If not I'll eat a banana or apple on my way home and perhaps a Mars bar if it hasn't melted in the car.
  5. I could, but not really worth it for just looking around. But my main point is that EM have included such hotbeds of trials as Israel and Romania yet excluded the UK (and USA). Why exclude any country? Have we upset the French again? πŸ˜†
  6. I don't have a compatible bike (πŸ˜ͺ) but I decided to download the iPhone version of the app anyway, just to have a poke around. When I tried to sign-up I found that it won't accept UK phone numbers. When you click to select country (rather than using the phone's default) UK isn't there. I tried switching to Spain and it tried to send the confirmation text message but obviously I don't actually have a Spanish phone account. Something of an omission there Mr EM.
  7. Well, the only common thread between most people is WD40, so I'll definitely stick with that bit of my process. Paraffin or diesel? I think I'll give diesel a go, and see how it goes.
  8. The chain is probably the most ill-treated part of a trials bike. We dose it with mud, dust and water and put sudden shock loads through it, and most of the time it serves us faithfully and well. I have my own system for cleaning and lubrication but I wonder what other people do. My procedure goes as follows: After washing the bike I give the chain a spray of WD40 before putting it away. Unless the chain is looking unusually clean, I take it off and wash it in paraffin, brushing thoroughly and then hand it up to drip. After 24 hours + I refit the chain. On completion of the bike's general maintenance I spray the chain with chain lube. I'm using Muc Off Dry at the moment but I'm not too picky and buy whatever I see. I'm wondering whether diesel would be better for washing the chain. It should have better lubricating properties and may be as good (or better) for cleaning. Are the on-bike chain cleaning gadgets any good?
  9. That's it, and it will have the same on the barrel somewhere. If it's been re-nikasiled, the old grade should be obliterated and a new one stamped beside it.
  10. Welcome! I'm also just across the water from you (Portishead). Finding practice areas nearby is always difficult though I think there's one down towards Swansea, a long way for me but pretty handy for you. Gwent Classic run some good trials around Monmouth area, perfect for a beginner.
  11. Wow! Someone starting older than me (albeit you have far more other bike experience than I had). Welcome to the club.
  12. If you're going for a barrel only, bear in mind that Beta bores are graded (A, B, C, D, from memory). So if you're hoping to re-use your piston you'll need a barrel of the same grade.
  13. My Fantic 200 had a plastic bash plate so I assume most/all twinshock Fantics would have similar. It worked for me.
  14. Put the barrel on the paper, then draw around the cylinder. Cut that out with a scalpel or Stanley knife. Then put the part-made gasket on the barrel and use a small ball-peen hammer to gently tap around the periphery and the ports to cut the rest of the shape.
  15. And the good news is….. the FIM have seen the error of their ways and withdrawn the no-minders rule effective from Portugal this weekend. Too late for Toby, but at least it makes it a bit safer for everyone else.
  16. That would require the club to have a suitable bank account with someone like Square, and it would also require an internet connection; something that is frequently lacking at a trial venue. There's no reason why a club couldn't mix pre-entry with pay-on-the-day. Sufficient pre-entries would give the confidence to go ahead with the event, and if 75% of the entry was on pre-entry that would be 75% of the entry list already written for the results team. Just the remaining 25% for be transcribed from hand-written entries on the day. This would be just like the application of the trial observer app (https://mototrial.co.uk/observer/) which can at least bring the club 50% of the benefit if 50% of the observers use it.
  17. That sounds crazy! Every 40 hours seems more reasonable to me, which is what is in the Beta owner's manual. It's about what I have done with all my bikes but I don't get obsessive about it and probably run over sometimes. On the other hand, I probably overestimate how many actual riding hours there are in a typical trial.
  18. Is there much trials activity on Madeira? I'm going there in the autumn.
  19. Toby's crash was alarming to watch. Apparently he has chipped two vertebrae so I suspect that will have him out of action for a while. Would it have happened if minders had been allowed in the section? Opinions?
  20. Interesting website. I think I looked at it before, but had forgotten it. What do you use for degreasing before sticker application?
  21. The stickers on my Electric Motion are beginning to look a little tired so I'm thinking of getting a Jitsie sticker kit rather than taking out a mortgage for the EM OE kit. Just to be a bit different I'm thinking of getting the "Stealth" version that is virtually all black, white or grey. I can't see a photo anywhere of it fitted though and I'm concerned it might look drab, especially against the black frame. Has anyone got one? And what do you think of the look? And what's the quality like?
  22. Trials bikes get a hard time while being ridden, but a lot of them get babied in the workshop. Filter cleaning, oil changing, new bearings, etc.... Most are probably far better cared for than the average road bike.
  23. I don't know how to contact Admin, so I'll put it here. Could we please have a Mecatecno sub-forum in the bike-specific section?
  24. I have a system almost ready to go. It's simple, and would just work for a club without all the complexity that the ACU system has (which would be great if it worked, but ....). It would be free for any club to use if they want it; just my way of giving back something to the sport. Having said that, not every club does want on online system. I certainly know some who prefer enter-on-the-day.
