"I usually use 50 to 1 mix chainsaw oil and have done for many years on various trials bikes. This makes it easy to mix 100ml to 1Litre and I have never had any problems. Hope this helps"
Hope I'm not being thick but when I was at school 100ml to 1 litre would have been a ratio of 10:1 - surely a 50:1 mix is 20ml per litre !!!

Cheers for the reply.
I'd already worked out that the parts diagram actually shows the upper bushes rather than the lower ones (although the diagram is a little confusing) .
Apparently the lower ones are not listed seperately by Yamaha for the TY250 Mono (they are sold as part of the fork leg), although after speaking to a
friend who is a fountain of knowledge on vintage Yamaha Motocross bikes this is not unusual. Sometimes the lower bushes are listed as specific items and other
times as part of the fork leg - I need to find another Yamaha model that uses the same size lower bushes to get a part number.
To be honest I've already ordered a set of upper bushes and I think the lowers will be ok for now.
Interesting variation in price - there was over 40% difference in price between two well known suppliers ??
Many thanks for the response.
Regards
Tim

Can anyone help?
The online parts diagrams that are available on the web are all based on TY350 (US). whilst 99% of parts are the same i'm struggling with the internal fork bushes.
On the parts diagram it only shows the lower bush (part number 30X-23125-00-00) all the mono forks i've ever stripped have had another smaller bush which is located slightly higher on the inner fork - looking for a part number so I can order some.

Hi Spokeman
Thanks for the reply I - managed to get some (the original post is 2 years old) - but I'm sure there are lots of other potential customers out there.
How much for a set of front and back?
-
Hi
You are right Woody, Pinky front wheels use conventional spokes - should be easy to get some.
-
Try Birkett Motorsport www.birkettmotosportukltd.co.uk or one of the wheelbuilding companies that advertise in most of the offroad bike mags
-
The gearbox is a known weak spot on these.
Ideally you need to check when the van is cold - mine was noticably worse in the winter - 1st and 2nd gear hard to select until warmed up for a couple of minutes.
If you are lucky the fix is around
-
Why not try the ty250 Mono front end.
-
Hi
I had a vauhxall combo - 1 bike was a tight fit, I should think 2 would be almost impssible without removing wheels etc.

Hi
Can anyone tell me how much oil in each fork leg TY175 Twinshock
Cheers

PM me and I'll e-mail a copy

just thinking outloud so if its a silly idea let me know
Would it not be easier to have the mono stem machined to the same diameter (at the bearing positions) and length as the original twinshock one in order to accept the twinshock bearings. This would surely enable a straight forward fit with only the stem requiring modification. I am assuming the mono stem is thicker than the twinshock one - havent compared the two !!
-
Can anyone out there who has done this modification advise on the best way to go about it.
Do the twinshock yokes need machining to fit the mono forks or can the mono stem be modified to accept the twinshock head bearings.
Cheers

If buying an expensive item like a bike I always speak to the seller and ask very specific questions, this gives you a good idea of whether they really know what they are selling and whether the e-bay description is a bit economical with the truth. If in doubt ask them to e-mail close up pictures, and when at all possible go and have look prior to bidding. Usually a pocket full of cash seals the deal without having to bid and you often get a better price.
When selling I always include lots of supersize pictures and make a genuine effort to be helpful. I always work on the premise that the prospective buyer will turn up and have a look at the items i'm selling so theres no point making something sound better than it really is. I am also wary of people with bad feedback and would rather lose a sale than have all the hassle of non payers etc.
Just treat it like an ad in the paper and be prepared for the odd rip off merchant and time waster.

As Jon says, if you regularly grease them then they will be fine, same goes for the swingarm bearings, keep them regularly greased and they will be fine - let them seize and you are in a world of pain !!!

Hi
There should be a rubber guard that fits to the bottom of the rear mudguard behind the suspension linkage. If you look at the mudguard you will see 4 holes along the bottom edge, the rubber guard clicks into these holes.
I have a used one which you can have cheap - pm me if you are interesed.
I think they are still available from Yamaha (around

Hi
I had the plastic seat base on my TY250 Mono painted by a local paintshop and its spot on.
They have also experimented with some new paint technology onto plastic motocross tank, and from what ive seen so far it appears to work very well.

Try a Yamaha off road main dealer - as many parts are still available from Yamaha and are generally cheaper than "specialists"
-
Cheers for that.
The backing plate was marked - ive lined it up and have a spark. So once rest of bike is back together I can fine tune the timing.
Pretty simple once you know how.
Another job I wont have to pay someone else to do in the future.
Once again many thanks

Hi
Rebuilding a TY250 Mono,
Can anyone post a complete idiots guide to re-installing the generator and setting up the timing. Motor has been stripped and rebuilt by local Yamaha specialist.
I could take the generator to him, but would prefer to learn how to do it myself.
Thanks in anticipation.

Surely in the case of a collision on the road, with a member of the general public, any inurance whether it be the riders own, or optional for the event, would be completely useless if the bike was not road legal. i.e. MOT, Tax, horn, speedo etc.
Therefore the only legal otion is to have a fully legal bike and adequate insurance, anthing else is pointless.
