  1. If your riding mostly on idle jet for hours it will build up with carbon, sounds too rich as well possibly. Every half hour if your not reving much go up a hill a few times to clear the motor out on main jet or have a bit of a blast on the flat.
  2. Doogle, problem solved, I'll take your bike up in the van and bring it back if I can have unlimited use of the Motorhomes shower and shi***r over the three days mate
  3. Chriss could well be a convert, my mates got a caber rep much better bike than the standard sherco, rides really smooth and feels more like a gasser than anything else. Never breaks down and very easy to work on. May have to wait till the 08's come out but looking like a sherco in the autumn
  4. I'll go with what titanium has said, my next bike will either be a 4rt or Sherco, more likely to be the Sherco at the moment (Better built Gasser) the rev3 is starting to feel like a heavy weight compared to the others but still a very good well made bike though. Hopefully when beta bring out something completely different without a Mikuni I will buy one, but the Sherco and 4rt seem much better bikes these days.
  5. Ask Greeves is right, I do plug chops after 8-10 real big flat out climbs, kill the engine imediatley you hit the top of the hill and take the plug out. It wont work if you tickle back to the van to take it out. I did nt need to rejet mine after putting the Boyesens in at all, infact it sorted the plug fowling out on its own. Always worth checking the plug colour after a good days trial or practice to see how its been running that day. Plug should be light brown and pretty much dry, oily and black isnt the right colour at all. If the plug is white or pitted its too weak, richen the mix straightaway on main and pilot and try again. Chuck the 7Es in the nearest bin and get a BPR5ES as recommended by Lampkins for the UK, it will make a difference straightaway and the Champion plugs are ***** in Betas
  6. I have had so many rev 3's now i cant remember if the front feels heavier than other bikes that much. As Billy said I have dropped the forks through the yolks to lift the front which feels better but higher bars did not work that well. I have nt noticed tucking under on the bike at all. Maintenance wise keep a good eye on loose bolts as per most bikes, the rear disc bolts tend to come loose and rear bash plate bolts on mine. Keep the air filter clean as possible and get the extended float bowl extension, use 98 octane fuel with good premix oil and you should nt go too wrong. If the bike feels rich as most Betas do there are plenty of easy cures on here to get it running right. Lampkins recommend a BPR5ES plug not the standard 7 they come with new, it does make a difference straightaway Good Luck
  7. Thanks Andy I will have a look this evening
  8. You have a good time at Eltons party tonight mate hope your a*** is ok in the morning

  9. Anyone know of a good easy to use and free video editing programme I can download Ive got quite abit of footage including stars like Wiggy,Jack Lee, and Ralph on tape and would like to edit it down abit etc so I can post it. Hope to take the camera out abit more this summer if I can work out how to make short films Thanks Just
  10. If you are really keen on the gassers try a Sherco, alot of people say the Sherco is a better built Gasser and more reliable. I have had Betas since 01 as the Gasser let me down 3 times in five weeks from new and I took it back to the dealer for a Rev3. They do fall apart and need a great deal of attention in the workshop but ride the best from the 4 or 5 I have had over the years. The Beta is pretty much bullet proof, a few problems if you get a poor one but can be sorted out reasonably easily from info on here. I have had mine nearly a year now and it gets ridden aprox 20 hours a week still looks good and nothing is falling off or worn out. Like most Trials bikes the bolts are ***** so i always replace most of them from new with good ones. The rev3 is very easy to work on and spares seem very good value if you bust loads, in my view the 270 is the best hill climber of all bikes and has loads of low down grunt if you play with gearing and set up. I had a go on a 4rt last week, first time and was well impressed, the suspension is incredible compared to other bikes I ve tried, Ralph and James said the same. I did think it would feel big and heavy but it does nt, probably down to how good the suspension is, it hops and flicks about just as well as the Beta and somehow feels as if its glued to the floor. I am going to have a go on it again in the streams in wales tomorrow and if it rides as well again I think it will be my next bike. The Monts build quality is second to none and they have been around long enough now any major problems would have showed up. I rode a 250 Scorpa early last year before I had a bike, I was surprised how easy it was to ride, never buy one but it was alot better than I thought it would be.
  11. Ian, have I missed a previous bit of banter between you and spud before? or is this the first time? Re trophies, i would rather see the kids get them, on the odd occasion I won one as a schoolboy it was great much rather get a new tyre at the end of the year now or see it spent by the club for paying for a new venue hire or observer benefits
  12. I tend to use both brakes on front wheel hops, not saying its the right way but I prefer it, bikes seems more balanced and stable doing it. Standing hard on the rear brake on back wheel hops as you land definately works, less chance of loosing your balance as it hits for some reason.
  13. I noticed that as well at the Bemrose, I was almost expecting a walking stick through the spokes as I approached but a quick thank you (for moving over) and hello did the trick
  14. Dont know what happened then Kinell? elecy went off whilst i was editing the spelling and it dissapeared, saved some of it but just rewrote abit. Thanks on the smoking info mate of a mate was on something new a while back? may have been the stuff you said, sent him mad nearly and wasnt allowed to drive either? but i will ask Incentive helps alot when giving up, last time it was being able to ride quicker on the track. Every time I feel i want a smoke i will get the bike out, even take it to work I think, should be on it 16 hours a day over the next few weeks Great info Billy, really interesting and this is the sort of info that hopefully spur me to kick the cigarettes once and for all and get fitter. As someone here said earlier you are giving free advice which does cost in normal life, thanks for that. I think most of us would like to be fitter and eat better, but its a minefield out there, eat this, dont eat this, quantities etc etc. I am lucky that I don
  15. Thanks for that Billy, I will try alot more water next trial before and during and lay off the RedBull and lucozade and think about the carbs food. Two handfulls of spinach? no wonder you wanted to get finished quick mate......... just out of curiosity? why half a carrott? was you full?
  16. Billy, what would you recommend you should eat and drink during a 6-7 hour single lap trial? I usually have a couple of bottles or water or lucozade, mars bars and my trusty Old Holborn travel pack for walking sections. Me and ralph usually have enough to eat and drink before the trial (cakes and red bull) What is best? considering there may be a fair bit of bike pushing as well and quantities? Ralph said someone gave him a glucose tablet just before the river kwai whilst he was laying in a ditch sleeping and knackered, are they any good? he said it did perk him up enough to finish the trial
  17. Hillclimb Dirt Biking from hell, wont link directly but should be on page 1 or 2
  18. Just worked out I need to drink 2.7 litres of water a day then and Ralph you better get a jerry can for yours mate. I ve heard this clean water thing before? and also heard it doesnt actually matter what form the water is in, ie coffee, tea, squash etc as long as you have enough of it. Why is it so important that its so clean?
  19. I had a mystery air lock in mine a few months ago? realised there was no fuel getting through luckily by just looking at the filter. I took the pipe off the filter and the fuel flowed straightaway? put it back on and it work fine?
  20. Galfer everytime......... never had any problems with them at all
  21. Neon, dump the fuel out of the tank and put fresh in, may be worth draining the carb at the same time. Make sure fuel is getting to the carb ok as well, sometimes in can get locked and not flow.
  22. What a Trial and to be honest one of the best one day events I have done. First time for me and had heard stories about how hard the last ten sections are up the river kwai but thank fully not as bad as I had been led to beleive Dropped loads but had some good rides and a great day doing quite a hard Trial and a really good mix of sections. Well done to all concerned observers and organisors another event to book into for next year. In the end only me,dad and ralph went up, dad went up last night me and ralph drove this morning leaving at 5.30 from Oxford. Had a great laugh all day and the weather really picked up about lunch time after a very cold and foggy start to the Trial. Took us 7 and a half hours to complete think we just scraped in on time hopefully, no queues all day and everyone friendly as always up North Had a real Geoff Capes moment mid Trial when I started my bike and the throttle stuck wide open and disengaged the clutch firing me off a stream bank into the other side at 50 mph, made Ralph p*** himself laughing but could have been nasty if the drop had been any bigger than the four footer I launched off. Said hi to leggins from here, sorry if i was nt very chatty but I had just fived an easy section before and promptly made a mess of yours as well . Got back to Oxford at 9.30, so a pretty long day for us all but well worth the effort. Many thanks Hillsborough MCC, Top event and highly recommended to all.
  23. He looks a million dollars in his new kit new helmet, new jeans, new boots, new gloves, bikes running great with the new clutch and other add ons hope all this expense will mean regular riding at last with me and dad. Lisa has nt found out hes cleared the joint bank account out yet but sure their will be a little discussion at the end of the month when the mortgage does nt go through Ralph if Lisa throws the "why do you need three pairs of trials boots "just throw back "the same reason you need 61 pairs of shoes darling" BVM was restocked this morning but I did here Big Dave has returned to the sport and may have gone down this afternoon to clear out most of the clothing and new bike stock, Mark must have thought he has won the lottery this week
  24. Hi Leggins, thanks for the directions just so we dont get lost can you let us know the road name on the attachment I ve done, from your directions looks like its off the Onesmoor road. Thanks, see you tomorrow mate please tell Ralph how smart he looks as well when he arrives hes got new kit
