  1. No your Bulto 151 should have a plain filler plug like this one
  2. I got the wife a Torx helmet from TrialsUK the other month. She was very happy with the fit and the shape as it gives a bit more clearance at the side of her head for glasses but also raps round to give protection to the cheeks. They are selling for under £45.00 and TrialsUK's web site has a handy size guide.

    Front Sprocket

Bench grinder! best tool for the job! I needed to trim the one on my M 49. as it is an 11 tooth 428 size chain as fitted to the early Bultaco's. P.S. I also run a 60 yes 60 tooth rear sprocket. But I'm pulling the extra weight of a sidecar and monkey about!
  4. Yes they are the same. all models all years of trials and MX bikes
  5. I made a simple clutch spring compressor from a piece of 12 mm O/D tube and a piece of plate. Cut a slot in one end of the tube to clear the pins, weld piece of plate to other end. with this against my chest/gut i could compress the spring and still have hands free.
  6. Hi Davdeborg ATF is fine in your Bultaco. Make sure the clutch is adjusted properly I.E slack off the cable. open up the clutch access plug and undo the lock nut, screw in the adjuster until you feel it touch down, back adjuster screw out about a quarter turn and then tighten lock nut. Adjust cable's slack at handle bar. If the clutch still slips a new set of clutch springs from Bultaco UK may be called for (£12.00 a set) or one of their excellent clutch kits with modern style friction plates(£85.00) I know it sounds a lot but it really transforms the bike. After all your Bulto is about 40 years old and I bet the spring's are the original one's I have one of these clutch kits on my sidecar outfit and before I fitted it I hated having to slip the clutch (something we need to do a lot with a sidecar) I always got finger pump and half way through a section the clutch would be grabbing and totally unpredictable. Now it is a joy to ride and my 12 year old girl can pull it in!
  7. Hi Slogger My son and I built our chair. So we started with the bike vertical and built out from there, then adjusted the sidecar's shock mounts to get the bike vertical when rider and passenger are aboard. May be best to make the top front mount with a bit of adjustment in it at first, then fully weld up after you and your passenger have had a stand on it. Bear in mind that the bike will have about four inches of suspension movement and the chair only about two. So you do feel the outfit tilt now and then. Some I have spoken to have the bike leaning in towards the chair when every thing is unloaded. So bike is upright when loaded. ( don't forget to have the tire pressure's set as it can make a big difference as to how the bike sit's ) We currently use 7 psi in the rear to counter the extra weight of the passenger and 25 psi in the sidecar's tire (any softer and you can feel the drag). we have the sidecar wheel lead the bike's rear wheel by 9.5" But with my next one (a Beta Evo with a Rushton chair I will try 9") a track of 34.5" (to comply with ACU Reg's) and a toe in of 1.5" over the wheelbase of the bike. I hope this helps and hasn't just confused thing's for you. Paul
  8. Can't agree more! I've always had fantastic and fast service from both Bultaco UK and BVM Moto, and they are always prepared to talk and help with any queries you may have.
  9. I was going to suggest Falcon shock absorbers Ltd to you as they also do a shock rebuild service and may be able to bring your TY Mono's old shock back to life. http://www,falconshockabsorbers.co.uk As I think I have posted before "Trials outfits are about as much fun as it's possible to have and still have clothes on" I have attached a photo of a friends TYz outfit to inspire you and I hope you'll post photos of your outfit soon. Paul.
  10. Hi Rob Glad to here about some one else coming into sidecar trials. My son and I built our own chair for our Bultaco. At this time we are using SM pro trials rear shocks with 50 Lbs per inch springs. they do seam a bit soft in the first inch or so of travel. So we have the prload wound up a bit. I'm 15 stone and my monkey's range in size from my 12 year old daughter through to my wife who's about 10 stone I think. I also changed the fork oil for two stops heavier I.E from 15 wt to 25 wt. this made the hole outfit less like a rocking horse and the front end much less likely to dive under braking. Going back to the rear suspension the spring and damping rates you need will very much be influenced by the angle and how far along the swing arm you mount them. I.E the further away they are from the wheel center the more leverage there is and so the softer they seem. Hope this helps Paul
  11. So glad you found a chair! I really hope it helps your dad stay competing. Don,t hesitate to email me if you need any advice with the fitting. Regards Paul.
  12. Hi bultoboy, OK Wheel lead = the centre point on the ground that the sidecar wheel touches should be 9.5"to 10.5" ahead of the centre point that the bike's rear wheel touches Track = the distance measured from the centre of the track left by the rear wheel to the centre of the track left by the sidecar wheel. Toe in = The sidecar wheel needs to point towards the front wheel of the bike very slightly, I.E. if you have a straight edge against the sidecar wheel and take a measurement from the front and rear wheel spindles of the bike. The front one will be 1.5" less than the rear measurement. In the attached photo you can see that the sidecar wheel is ahead of the bikes rear wheel (lead) follow my link on the Plans For Side Car thread to the trialshacke jpegs well worth the read. bultoboy message me your email address and I will send you loads of photos and my phone number if you wish to talk more about building/fitting a sidecar to your bike.
  13. Yes you will need a longer chain. But it's always a good idea to fit a new chain when fitting new sprockets anyway.
  14. Hi Bultoboy It looks like a Rushton built chair in good condition, So yes £200 is a good starting point. I built my own chair for my Bultaco and it cost me more than that just for materials, wheel, brake+bit's and bob's. Would that chair fit you'r Bultaco? Yes it would! you would have to adjust the mounting's and make new brackets to fit your Bulto. Just remember you will need the sidecar wheel too lead the bike's rear wheel by between 9.5" and 10.5" have a minimum track of 34.5" (in ACU hand book) and have the sidecar wheel toe in by about 1.5" over the wheel base of the bike. Would you need to cut up your Bulto's frame? NO NO and again NO. I have a 1969 Bultaco M49 and fitted my chair without making any modification to the bike's frame. The only mod's I have done is to fit 50 lb springs to the rear shocks, heaver fork oil up front. and a bigger back sprocket. Outfits are the most fun you can have with your cloths on AND you get to do it with a friend !!!! The wife and I have been riding our's for a few months now and she is still coming home from work and ask's if we can go ride the outfit. This from a woman who had never shown any interest in riding a bike before.
  15. Bultaco Model 49 with chair.
  16. Thought I would post a photo of my Model 49 now that I have restored it. P.S. she now pulls a chair/sidecar.
  17. Jack Sheppard WINS Junior class, Day Two. Bradly Cox Second in Youth class, Day two! Well Done Boys!!!

  19. Any news on the junior and youth classes?
  20. Well after a lot of looking about on the internet I finally bit the bullet and started bending some pipe! This is what my fourteen year old son and I came up with. so far it's been a very steep learning curve riding it. But huge fun. So go on give it a go!
  21. Just to let you charioteers know that the Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc will be including sidecar classes in all there trials this year. for details check out the eastern centre Acu web site. http://www.easternacu.org
  22. Hi Ben No you will not need to bleed the brakes after changing the cover's. Just make certain that the reservoirs are level when you remove the old cap and have some water handy to rinse off any spills as soon as you have fitted the new one's. Brake fluid eats paint/plastics.
  23. Try http://www.tartybikes.co.uk they do a Kenda 19" DH Super Heavy Duty inner tube for £6.38. My boy uses them in the rear of his Onza and hasn't had a flat since he switched.
  24. I have come across a french blog about sidecar trials. It is packed with photos and chat about building outfits and can be found at " le-side-car-trial.allmyblog.com" It's very good ! and has certainly given me food for thought. Hope this is helpful. I have purchased a wheel for my side car project and drawn up some plans. I will start cutting steel next week.
