  1. welcome and for now just ride. find some trials friends and ask for advice. most trials bikes require little in actual setup. once set most don't change them unless you become a much more advanced rider. just make sure all works as it's supposed to. believe it or not tire pressure makes a lot of difference. 6psi front 4 psi rear is a good start. remember to have fun. rob

  3. i can't comment on the shock as mine is a 2013 model but i had to take the tank off to make adjustments to the damping. rob

  5. yep, that's about the closest event, there is an occasional vintage event that i can ride my modern bike at but it's still 5 hours one way. these days 10 hours is my limit for a weekend journey. makes monday really hard to deal with.
  6. hi i was riding the intermediate line in the am so i could be on the road home before noon. normally i ride advanced class but in Texas they run the lower classes in the am and upper classes in the pm. since i'm not riding for any championship points i decided to ride that line and go home early. 7 hour ride one way helps my choice on that. i just thought it would be fun to use the gopro in a different location for a change. rob

  8. another unwatchable video due to really bad music. i would love to hear how those bikes sounded back then. i started riding mx in 1975 never seen a trials bike until about 1990. question, does section layout dictate bike technology or vise versa? does bike technology dictate rider skill level or vice versa? which came first the chicken or the egg? rob
  9. i vote for no music and no backup footage, matter of fact i don't care much for the slomo either. if i want to see a part again i can back it up myself with the little slider and also i can pause the vid to see any part i want a closer look at. music does nothing for me. i think the artsy fartsy cinema crowd has wondered to close to the gopro crowd. the fim does a great job covering the trials and x trials but half of a 2 minute vid is about showing the crowd and venue, unneeded. my 2 cents rob
  10. how often do you break parts? i have one spare lever and one spare spark plug i keep in the truck. other than that no inventory. i have heard about the GG parts like the shift lever and some internals but not sure what those guys do. at most events there are dealers around so getting a spare should i fall and break one shouldn't be an issue.(hopefully)
  11. i only buy to replace what i break. and i don't break many things. so far on my 2013 sherco i've replaced the front brake lever and the front fender support brace. no other purchases and none planned rob

  13. i bought a puma Ferrari shirt once and i follow the advice on the label it says "wash when dirty" i can get about 8 years of service out of my boots that way. lol rob

  15. i remember watching tons of video of the top pro's and then marveling at how effortless it looked and then i went to my first WTC in watkins glenn usa, the year tommi ahvala won the championship, i forget the year. i got to stand within inches of the riders in a section. way different than watching mx which i was used to seeing every weekend. i got to see the effort expended and the sweat coming off them from how much effort they put into to each section. i was so blown away and quickly realized i needed to be in way better physical condition. the top riders are strong and fit, it takes a lot of strength to do certain moves and to get up certain size obstacles. lots of effort. in video you can hear about how much throttle input but not how much physical effort. but when your in person you can see the effort it's amazing to see. rob oh, don't forget some of the new riding techniques require freak show circus like talent to pull off and make look so easy.
  16. i have to ask, are there any trials guys you can ride with? that would make the biggest difference in your learning. you need to see it live in front of you. then you can get instant feedback when you try it. i also believe in not riding alone. to easy to get hurt and no one around to help. rob
  17. the zap is typically better when the obstacle is under cut. if it's flat all the way up it really doesn't matter. if it's wet it matters also. it's really hard to zap from a stand still, but a rollup is easier from stand still. rob
  18. i don't want to sound like a jerk but if the bike worked ok i wouldn't have messed with it. if what i did made it worse i would have undone what i did that made it worse. most bikes run fine even when not jetted exactly perfect. most bikes run pretty good with stock settings. things that can affect jetting are dirty air filter. water / dirt in carb. air leaks. not sure of your location / altitude but it's always good to check with other local riders to see what they have done. what did the spark plug look like when removed? compression? all factors. some of the guru's will be along soon i think to offer more help than i can give but dabster should get you moving forward. good luck and i hope you get to enjoy the bike real soon look forward to hearing about your trials riding exploits vs your repair time. rob
  19. i feel if raga, caby, fajardo wanted something changed on the bike to make it better, easier, or whatever then gg, beta and sherco would be happy to make that change. then they would test it and if it worked even physiologically it wold be implemented. i don't think it's something that can be nailed down by us. maybe we should ask raga, caby and fajardo why they think they can't beat bou? give me fuji's bike and i still couldn't do any better. fuji's time at the top is nearing the end. i like him but time is not on his side. this new injury doesn't help either. i don't think any new current young rider will come up faster than bou will go down or retire while on top. rob
  20. static rear wheel hop is different than a moving one. when the bike lands you pull back on the bars to help re- center yourself just as mentioned above. a rolling one is initiated earlier as the lift is beginning to happen and speed and momentum brings it around and uses more of your shoulders and lean angle. what you don't see in the vid is the amount of pressure he is applying to his hips / legs / feet to help bring the bike around. in this type of circumstance yes he's using the bars more but only to help transfer strength to his lower body to move the bike. while static you move your hips to the outside direction you want he bike to go with a slight lean and then when the bike rebounds the bike naturally follows to that side. i find that while doing a rolling movement if i get my shoulders off center as i enter into the move it helps me get my movement started easier and my hips follow along with less effort. here you go from the master himself good luck rob
  21. yep, i talk to myself all the way through an event. especially on the trail between sections so no one hears me and can prove i'm crazy. rob
  22. you must mean while going down hill? no need to cover the rear brake on flat or uphill. it will hinder your body position. i can't do it, maybe gumby can but i can't. rob
  23. i keep a spare in the van, never needed one at an event in 25 years. i replace my plug once a year wether it needs it or not. rob
