  1. it should have a hose, look at the bike photo on page one of this post, it can spew gas on you when riding over rough terrain.
  2. hi go to an event, while everyone is warming up go out and look at the sections and try and judge from that or go out and warm up with some others and ask them which class they ride, good way to make friends. if it looks to hard it's probably your line, lol
  3. use air filter oil, it's the best thing to do, it's cheap and last forever i use the spray, may never run out of it once you get a can
  4. that's what this whole bike thing is about having fun with your friends.
  5. way back in the day, about 1990 i met andrew codina with gas gas, he said the company philosophy was to build bikes that only needed oil on the chain and gas in the tank. that was their goal for getting and keeping customers. his words not mine.
  6. trials bike are easy on parts, most riders in our club are old guys, don't ride fast and don't ride hard on the bike. when i was young i broke stuff all the time. but now i'm just poking along and the bikes are so reliable and easy to maintain.
  7. only change sprockets and chains when worn? right?
  8. at least i spend it riding and not wrenching, that's why i quit racing cars
  9. i haven't changed most of those items on the last 3 bikes i've owned. beta rev3 6 years (changed fork seals) sherco 290 3 years(new air filter because i'm lazy) gg 270 3 years(1 new rear fender because i crashed) that's 12 years of almost zero maintenance cost. 2 times a year i change the coolant and every few months i change the transmission fluid i ride a couple of hours per week and compete a couple of times each year. all my bikes work as intended. wash and grease keeps things working well and i almost never ride in mud or water. i rarely buy new tires as what's the point if i don't compete that much.
  10. i thought new tires only came with a bike attached? the high cost of new the tires.
  11. i read an interview with pol tarres' dad and he said that pol had to get sponsorship just to go to compete.
  12. i shoot for 3 and then buy whenever i get the money to. longest i ever kept one was 7 years. average is about 3. rob
  13. look here http://www.shercousa.com/pdfs/2011sparebook_trial-2t.pdf page 19 you should just be able to pull the side cover off and see if somethings not right. if it's in the transmission then you would need to split the cases. it's been a long time since i've had to do anything like this. is the shift lever pinch bolt tight? could be slipping? if you pry gently you might not even mess up the gasket rob
  14. lots of good thoughts and some not so good. not buying into the old days were so much better argument, i've been at this for a long time and i like the current form of riding. BUT i hate the outdoor section layout. to many very large jumps. no need for it, just go to an mx or sx race if that's what you want to see. i think it's entirely possible to layout sections that challenge without the huge jumps. the last event i went to was USA TN in 2013 a big mix of sections and yes some had the big flying jumps. i didn't spend much time watching those and moved to the really good creek sections. but from watching the videos from lots of the latest rounds heres my thoughts. to many easy sections that only become a clean or 5 at one or maybe 2 spots only because of the large flying jump. i think the section layout needs improving and the nostop needs enforcing for toni bou and the rest of the top 5 or 6. because in vids i've seen they seem to be getting away with murder. can't speak about the lower class riders as they are seldom shown in videos so far. rob
  15. that's pretty neat seems to work very well, but takes up valuable floor space, i invented / made my own strapless system for my pickup truck. so far no one is interested in buying it but it works like a champ and i don't miss straps at all. bike stays rock solid and never moves or can come loose. also very secure from theft. rob
  16. does that bike still work? looks like someone dragged it behind a truck down a dirt road. rob
  17. 37 years riding offroad and never had to hook any of them to a laptop. never had a carb problem other than one time some dirt and one time some water. a couple of minutes works each time and back up and riding. the ossa may be a great bike but i have never even seen one in person at a trials. i remember when gas gas came on strong, i waited to see and hear about them, in 93 i test rode one and fell in love with it. i like tried and true bikes, i usually won't buy a brand that makes major updates or changes until i find out that they work and work like they are supposed to. i was slow to buy a sherco but i'm glad i did. it's worked very well for me. what's next for me i have no idea. after all these years i want a reliable bike with an even more reliable dealer standing behind it. one thing is for sure it's nice to have choices, i'm sad to see ossa and gas gas having problems but also glad that jotagas and trs as well as scorpa are coming along. good luck to them. lets not for get that we used to have other bikes around like fantic, bultaco and a bunch of others, things change but stay the same don't they? we live in times when bikes are good and dependable compared to when i first started. but depending on your location finding a place to ride is harder than finding a bike to ride. rob
  18. i guess i didn't look at that facebook photo close enough, i thought that was fajardo working on t he beta. maybe not?
  19. i think most are just a bit ocd about it all. unless the tires are way to hard or way to soft most mere mortals can attribute poor form over improper air pressure to bad riding or bad scores. especially a difference as small as 1 psi. i've ridden almost an entire loop with a flat front or flat rear. yes it's possible. i can remember watching a young up and coming rider bounce off every log / rock in a section. his rear tire was like a rock. i asked him about tire pressure and he told me that one of the top guys told him to run 6 or 7 in the big rock splats. well he wasn't riding big rock hits and his bike was all over the place and he was dabbing at everything. i told him that his rear tire pressure was to high and he flipped me off and said i didn't know what i was talking about. i said have a nice day and ended up beating him at days end. oh well to each his own. rob
  20. what year model bike? i've herd some guys changing the slide and jets as well. 80 - 1 works for me with stock jetting, could be a little cleaner off bottom. not sure if i'm going to mess with it mine is a 2013
  21. thank for sharing. i guess my interpretation of the rules is a bit different than the way it's really scored? but great to see those guys ride. rob
  22. if i'm lucky about 3 hours per week. right now i don't know when i'll be back on the bike might be months at this point, it's been 3 weeks and i'm going nuts. rob
  23. welcome, and i would say buy the newest bike you have a budget for and most trials bikes are really reliable unless you fall and break stuff. for me the parts i break mostly are levers from falling. i've not had a minor or major malfunction with any bike i've owned. i had 3 gas gas, 2 beta and 1 sherco. all work as advertised with no issues. granted i switched from gg to beta when gg clutches were a problem but that's not an issue anymore. also i'm a 2t guy and not a fan of 4t's, those guys will pop up and give advice i'm sure. have fun whatever you decide rob
