  1. i found this while reading an interview from retrotrials. he was interviewing francesc tarres father of pol. Page 17- Interview with Francesc Tarres + meet Pol and Jordi's father at home. Fransesc then passes his phone around the table with a picture he has taken of Toni Bou without his top on. It is shocking. He has an extremely defined torso. Far more than I have seen normally and the type you might see on a body builder. The pale skin and extreme muscles look bizarre and quite shocking. Fransesc says that Toni does not use the gym at all, he just rides the bike
  2. question. if you watched the vids of the 2015 sheffield. the section with the tubes / pipes. when toni went up sumped and then hopped backwards off and then went at it again. he basically slide backward on the sump before hopping off and retrying. why wouldn't that have been a point for being on the sump? because he wasn't stopped? or....... this vid about minute 2.00 rob
  3. the great thing about trials. you don't beat or lose to your competition, you beat yourself. obviously the section is what you need to beat. to win just clean all the sections. toni drops very few points. raga consistently runs top 3 as do caby and fajardo. i think for raga it's nerves not sure about the other two. i'm a big fan of the Spanish riders as well as fuji. i've met them on a couple of occasions and their always humble and gracious, hard not to like them. the top guys can get through most of any section. toni seems to get through all aspects of a section including the last little percent that stops the other 3. the difference between a 1 or 5 is a very small margin. you have to go for clean and fight for it as well. i think toni fights that little bit extra and the showboating helps build confidence in himself and brings fear to the others. it's obvious from watching youtube vids they can all trick ride pretty equally but in the indoor vids you can see just a little bit more that toni has. mental toughness might be the hardest thing to teach / learn. being naturally talented in all areas is a perfect storm. i think if toni stays healthy the others will have a tough time of beating him but no doubt whoever does will get the most satisfaction of all. rob
  4. 35 years of off road 2 strokes no real problems to speak of. the 06 beta i had bought new, the dealer gave me an oversized float bowl drain plug and fixed the little problem with that bike. never had a leaky carb before. i do live below sea level and rarely go much above it. i did have a dodge Dakota that had a fuel tank issue and sucked the liner into the fuel lines and couldn't get past the injection system. what a mess. rob
  5. ryan young vids are great. study and then ride. i used to have a video from dale the US gas gas importer that he did with jack stites (sp) those 2 are in my opinion the best for teaching what is needed. the vid from dale will look outdated but the actual techniques are all the same. rob
  6. i always buy the newest bike i can afford. ride one and decide for yourself. rob
  7. thanks for posting, i would also like to see the entire event. wish they could do a USA tour. not sure there would be enough interest? rob
  8. amen brother, trials heaven. i'm 9 hours away and dream of ttc often. only get to ride there a couple times a year rob

    Cleaning My Sherco

down here our mud has gators in it. rob
  10. i wear tri focals and have never noticed anything while riding. with work(welding) i need a cheater lens for overhead because of head tilt angle but other than that i've never had a problem. i've been blind since birth and always wear glasses, i tried contacts but can't get used to not seeing. they wanted me to wear one lens for close and one lens for far and ended up with headaches and not seeing anything just right. rob
  11. hi if your turning with proper technique then balance while stopped is easy. if while turning you come to a stop and fall over your not using proper turning tech. head over the bars. shoulders square with the bars, hips and bent knee to the outside of the turn. proper foot peg weight. if while turning you fall to the inside then your not outside body enough and vice versa. same for balancing. balancing requires small input of foot pressure and small amounts of handle bar pressure and slight movement. remember you may not be going anywhere with the bike while balancing but your body never stops making adjustments. just like standing you really move around with your whole body just to maintain balance right? also you can use the clutch against the brakes to move the bike to help balance. if you watch top riders balance the bike almost always move forward and back against the clutch and brakes. not sure if i explained it properly but hope this helps. watch a top rider balance with front wheel up on an obstacle they work the clutch against the brakes while forcing the front wheel into the rock, etc. rob
  12. i don't have anything to add, but man i'm so sorry i read all the way to here. man i need a life...................lol if they build it. i like it, i think i want it, i'll buy. if it's a pig i'll stay away from it. brand doesn't matter. i've been riding dirt bikes since 1975 never owned a FI bike and if i live to ride long enough i may have to. i may even, oh this hurts, one day be forced to ride electric if i want to ride. maybe a meteor will strike earth and i can escape the electric part. i don't even care what color my bike is. i only care if it works properly whatever that means. FI or not if a bike works then to me the components or of no interest or value to me. if it doesn't then the company that makes them will hurt in the sales dept. when racing mx we used to be picky about jetting but after 20 years of trials riding i don't think i've ever messed with a carb except to adjust idle when summer turns winter here in the south the humidity and air density has an effect but no real big deal, yes an FI bike would do it on it's own but really it's not a big deal just a preference. i could probably ride any bike on the market right now and get the same amount of enjoyment out of it. the bike should not be so much of an influence they all work pretty darn good these days. i know this topic is about FI but................ rob
  13. Merry Christmas too all. rob

    Cleaning My Sherco

title track would be "stuck in the red sticky stuff with you" or "i lost my gas gas in the clay pit" since i know a little about texas riders "hold my beer and i'll show you how it's done"(to the tune of devil went down to GA)
  15. i'm not worried about other motor sports, when he learns about girls, bikes could be over.......... that kills so many good riders when they start that young, hard to focus. also remember that forum topic about rider weight? he doesn't even weight enough to compress the suspension. this kid can't dab because he can't even touch the ground.
  16. excellent, the title to that should be "so you want to be a pro trials rider?" that vid makes it look really hard to do. rob
  17. have fun on the bike, ryp is top notch in my book. rob
  18. you ride mx or enduro? your trying to ride like your on one of those? trials is different, it's not the bike, no one lowers a trials bike to my knowledge. adjust the bars to a comfort level. not like a top pro they ride way different than you and i. you ask about riding over stuff and wheelies but what about turns? trials is about turns. turn go up, turn go down most every rider in every class looses most points in turns. go out and ride trails and get used to the bike. play ride your favorite trails. spend time with other trials riders, it's the best way to learn. i know a couple of guys way over 6 ft who weight a ton more than you and still ride stock bikes. trials uses a lot of muscles that are similar to mx but in trials you don't sit so the legs get used all the time. learn to lean on the palms of your hands takes the load off your hands to relax while trail riding. helps me a lot. i also ride more on my toes than my arch area. for me more spring in my legs. rob
  19. you need to pull the bars back some. as a beginner you probably have trouble turning? if you squat and your but hits the fender area around the silencer then thats about right. do you have other trials riders to ride with? that would be a big help rob
  20. how tall are you? if under 6 ft. you shouldn't need it. based on the video you need to pull the bars back towards you a bit. to far forward for a beginner. bend over more, bend legs more.
  21. well what we need to know now is height, weight and reach of each contender. are their any virtual rock em sock em robots they could have a go with? a little virtual boxing match? rob
  22. lol, i got the mind of a 20 year old and the body of an 80 year old. i look at all sections like i can clean it and then wind up in a big old pile at some point and really sore the next day wishing i wouldn't have tried that! rob
