  1. Head hot, have fire inside, fire hot, water hot! Fire bad!
  2. A dodgy stator can make the bike run hot, possible pinging, as the incorrect ignition timing will put a lot of unburned fuel downstream the muff will likely get really warm and possible smell or smoke. This will have little to do with the fan operation or coolant temp or boilover spitting out coolant.. Just sitting at idle, if the fan runs and cycles normally, I would be looking the other direction. Hopefully the bike is still under warranty?
  3. Don't bother to ride a newer bike from this decade, or you will become addicted!
  4. I think this may well work out, as he seems to have tested it already. Due to the fulcrum arm behind the rear axle, it will obviously sag the car, but the car will absorb the shock as compared to a simple trailer rig with little or no suspension bashing the bikes bottom . If the upright arm to the platform is solid and does not sag, as compared to a hollow tube structure, he should be ok. If it starts sagging I would worry!
  5. May have to send them a text message for them to remember! Oh God, what have we done?
  6. Yea, that is cute man! Now if you can just trim off about 100lbs! Ha! Same with my XT225! Useless POS, but fun to play around on ! I actually started it today to be sure the battery is up, because the POS does not even have a kicker(duh). I was planning on going for a spin after yardwork, but resorted to the air conditioned truck instead for trip to our airport to waste the evening. It was HO double T hot here today!
  7. How old is this kid? Arr there any brain cells working?
  8. Not unlike You, I have watched these kids come up over the years, Cody at Pat residing on top still for the most. Karl, IS a bit different it seems! Sort of the red headed stepchild of the family! Goof nut! Long hair! Hippie! I have also been fortunate enough to be around him in the pits and in practice to tell you honestly, he just loves to ride, he ain't scared, and he is Very Very good and dedicated! Hard driving dedication! Pulling off a great finish, well deserved. Never dismiss him, as thus far he has only improved! All that said, I kinda miss his hair now! Poo!
  9. Obviously these things are designed to allow some rotation against the cushion rubbers. Did you replace them as well? I do not recall excess play by hand on these things. War there movement prior to your replacement?
  10. Fact is, a good hair drier works. Get some heat init to relax it a bit. If it is not bad, it will take back to the bar with minimal pressure from a pipe or wrench slid or the end without removing anything, just but a block in between good part of lever and bar. Easy Peasy, but be gentile! If it breaks, you prolly needed a new one anyway!

That seems a cheezy cold weld that has separated! For proper fitment, unless you can match up the old weld perfectly, you fill need to take the whole bike to the welding shop for a tack-up and proper positioning. All that must be clean prior, real clean@!
  12. Fan is not supposed to come on instantly. Likely shorted thermo switch unless you have wired direct.
  13. That makes sense, cause neither will work without proper earthing.
  14. Man that is just wrong! I think the shirt actually says GasGas on it, so it must be Jim Snail(Schnell, Snell or whatever it is). Happy B-day Zipper!
  15. So that's the issue. Might ck the number on the float jet housing. If say a 200, you may want to go up to say a 250. Set the timing back to orig mark on stator and top web casting.
  16. Charlie, you really do not want to know what is in there! No wierd noises, run it!
  17. Nice little GoPro clip! I usually kill more bugs at my altitude! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Nj9alDQ56Qk#! .
  18. Fan motors require 12V DC and may be tested on a battery! If either your supply voltage is low due to a faulyt regulator or not properly rectified to DC via a faulty rectifier then you have this type issue. No idea which type little boxes are doing this on the Evo.
  19. Second from bottom is fine. If there is not a specific problem here, leave it! Jets are in general range, yet many run a bit larger pilot, 35-36 range for a bit more pep, and a bit leaner main, 118-120 range, for a better run-up!
  20. Agreed, luckey lad, but it tells you to keep a spare on hand. Fact it was fouled tells me to tell you to get the thing out and run it to get some heat into the motor! All the putting about and such is ont good on them.
  21. I have ridden Sherco for over ten years and had a few. To be honest, if not on Sherco I would be on Beta. The Evo is a nice bike, yet like all else has its quirks. They are technically similar motor wise, yet mirrored image. I have come to like the 250's, same with the Beta(more a torque pig), yet the Sherco may be a bit more brisk and free running, as I compared the "12 models back to back. Suspension good on both, with the TECH forks on the Sherco being lovely in my opinion. A big plus. The Beta has sharper turn radius, and personally I do find it a bit extreme and will put you on your head if not careful. I am not comfortable with that, yet I may easily slam the Sherco to the stops with good faith in action. I think the ali tank and muff on the Sherco are vulnerable to damage by us idjets, so the carbon look plastic guards are recco. Other than that, a lot report the new Shercos are coming well set, requiring no jetting changes and is a well refined bike. Ride whot you brung is my motto!
  22. Slight would be normal, as things have to move, yet I have no measures on this.
  23. Ted, I would like to share with you a little revelation I have discovered after 45 years or so of riding dirt bikes, TWO STROKES RATTLE! And some worse than others! The fact that even by Ben's own admission that it is not that bad in the video and seems to come and go a bit does not neccessarily suggest the thing be condemned. Of course not being there does not help, so we must rely upon Ben's judjment and hopefully even a comparison with other similar bikes. From what Ben has stated, it would suggest that a simple refresh was done with new piston and rings, yet I would doubt the bore was replated unless a major problem had been noted at the time, not sure. Long story made short, it only takes .01-.02mm of bore wear for this type thing to occur, which may still be considered negligible for the most part by many. Just takes more $ to fix up! And all said, they will still loosten up and rattle before long. Of course when we were Ben's age, not only did we have to walk seven miles in the snow to get to school, but we were darned happy to have a bike that only rattled a bit! Meant they were just getting loostened up enough to be a good runner! Now I realize Ted may be a bit paranoid after mum dropped him on his head, but I am not quite there yet and will rely upon Ben's good judgment or hopefully another opinion in person by someone familiar with the bikes since we cannot be there. Not sure this shop is totally up on their trials bikes either, things would have to be much worse before I would suggest a big end problem which is seldom for the most on these things, and that stuff does not come and go to fix itself. Must be a qualified ear around somewhere? No harm, no foul Ted, just taking a wee bit.
  24. Sounds like a normal rattletrap to me! You wil not restore the cyl without a replate and that will cost you a couple! Ride it! Not that bad!
