  1. Might just be me then but i have always believed in freedom of choice. I shop where i want to shop i ride where i want to ride, mainly because i like the people and the severity or lack of of the course, if the clubs i currently ride at are forced to restrict their number of events then i can assure you that will NOT make me ride at an event i dont like. After all there are more things to do on a Sunday than waste your time and money doing something you dont enjoy isnt there? I still feel this proposal is being brought forward because some clubs seem to think they have a god given right to have a larger entry than they are currently getting but never ask why they are getting a low entry. Even if i found there was an events clash, sometimes there is, i will ride and support the club that gives me what i want. If more people voted with their feet this way then maybe just maybe we might get the events and sections and consideration we the silent majourity of riders deserve. Had a reply to my response to the proposal from the sender and he assures me that his club wont be supporting the proposal either. Perhaps there are more out there who can see the "proposal" LOL for what it really is. Finally can someone explain to me why the Classic Club i am involved with keeps getting so many requests from riders of modern bikes to come and ride at our events as guests on a no awards basis when there are so many "modern" events on the same day? Often events put on by the club who made the proposal or another club situated not a million miles away from them ?
  2. Sitting in the pub the other day talking bikes as you do the subject of spark plugs came up. Now the manufacturers have all "recommended" a grade of spark plug but that usually takes into account lots of peramiters which may or may not be applicable to how we use our bikes today. Very few now use them flat out on the road between sections for example. Now the old James seems best on an NGK BP5HS nothing like the manufacturers would have recommended. So what do you find is the best plug to use? This may be helpfull information to newbies to the wonderful world of twinshocks and Pre65 so dont keep it to yourself. Are iridium plugs worth it ? didnt seem to be an improvement when i tried one but that was in the James and others may have found different.
  3. I have just received an e mail from the local ACU East Midlands Secretary and i just had to respond. I have included my reply but i would be very interrested in others reactions? I have removed the e mail addresses by the way. Peter i will probably not be able to attend the AGM due to prior work commitments however i feel i must protest the proposals as i feel they are probably some of the daftist ones i have heard for a long time, believe me i have heard some daft ones in my time. 1. The reason some clubs are "suffering financial hardship caused by falling entries" is simply because the clubs concerned are putting on events that riders do not want to ride in. It's as simple as that. It's not rocket science. Some events continue to be ignoring the majourity of the riders wants but do the clubs take any notice of the riders views? NO!!! they keep on laying out for the chosen few who expect to be supported, financially, by the dissafected many. If that is the clubs attitude then they deserve to fold. Good financial acumen states "give the people what they want and they will buy it". If they dont give the punters what they want they wont have any. This applies to Tesco as much as it applies to a Trials Club. Or do you think there should only be one supermarket per town and everybody has to shop there wether they like the products or not ? If not they can starve. 2. Widthdraw priority to historical dates. Oh let me guess? So some Clubs who have the ear of the ACU can "cherry pick" the best dates????? Let me make another suggestion. You introduce the above and i wonder how many clubs will say "sod it lets join the AMCA" problem solved! I know the ACU dont take much interest of the non racing orientated clubs, actually wonder if sometimes they take any notice of any of the licence holders views, but for once i felt so angry about this i had to write back. Regards Original e mail below. To all Centre Clubs Please see the proposal below from the Sutton Falcons MCC. The item will be discussed under Board Meeting business - Trials matters. Peter Beardmore Secretary East Midland Centre ACU Subject: RE: East Midland Centre AGM Date: Mon, 28 Dec 2009 15:29:00 +0000 Proposals from the Sutton Falcons Motor Club for the Annual General Meeting 24th January, 2010. Trials Fixtures 2011 1 That the number of Sunday Trials Fixtures be limited to a maximum of 7events per club. This restriction will not apply to British Championship Events run Under National Permits or above. 2 To withdraw the present priority system whereby a Club is able to object to another Club coming onto

  7. Got a TY250 twinshock been littering up a corner of the shed for a couple of years and i am considering fettling it up for a bit of twinshock action later in 2010 so what do i have to do to it to make it competitive ? I was thinking along the lines of frame mods as per the origanal Majestys which had the frames cut and shut if the old grey cells serve me well. Does anybody have any details of what they cut out or what are the best frame mods? Already done the footrests and the rear shock top mounts and just got me a Majesty tank. Also had the yokes bored to 35mm and fitted a new set of Marzocchis. Is it worth raking the steering and then fitting TY250 mono fork bottoms ala Pre 65 forks ? Finally what colour is a Majesty as i've seen white with red frame, Yellow with red frame and white with blue frames and all the owners said they were original. Suppose i could paint it whatever i wanted as i will not be trying to make out it is an original but was just wondering about the colour.
  8. "is a 4 speed bantam allowed?" Not in the Scottish it aint but then again it may be depending on who you are Most clubs seem to operate pre 70 so as long as you dont bother with the "Scottish play" ,and more and more arent bothering sadly, then you should have no problems. Rode John Tyes new one recently and even though i am no fan of the bantam his is BRLLIANT !
  9. 2nd one looked ike a Bultaco to me and third a Yam but i would have fived at least a couple for "crossing the boundary of the section by going around the back of the tree. Also that Honda seemed to have plenty of power didnt it
  10. With all the rain we have been experiencing of late the expectation of the riders attending round 10 of the Peak Classic Trials Clubs Club Championship on 29th November was for mud, flood and a bit more mud thrown in for good measure . As they drove up the access road this looked to be confirmed by the rivulets running down the road however this was not the precursor for the mudfest they all expected. In fact the trial was, considering the weather of last was no more slippery than usual. In fact most of the riders expressed their surprise and also how much they enjoyed themselves so congratulations must go out to Jed Speed and Derek Carson who between them laid out a very enjoyable trial. The sections were split between the stream sections and the woods consisting of turns around the trees and rocks this popular venue is famous for. Surprisingly nobody stayed clean all day but Mark Hallows on his trusty Majesty came pretty close losing just the one mark to take the win in the Expert Twinshock class. Great ride Mark as the winner of the Air Cooled Monoshock class was won by Chris Slack on his Beta for a loss of three marks coincidentally the same as Pete Carson who took the win in the Expert British Bike category on his tiger cub. Our next event, round 11 of the Club Championship, will be at Cookes Quarry, Youlgrave near Matlock, Derbyshire. The date for your diary is the 20 December 11.00 am start so see you there. 11. Dont know the whereabouts of a step by step guide but it's just an adaptor from the Villiers taper on the crank to the OSSA motoplat fitment. If you buy the crank from Simon he can supply it with the shaft already machined to suit the Ossa motoplat flywheel. Personally have always been happy with Simons service plus the crank will be genuine Alpha and NOT sourced from China like some are. Mine has done 2 years regular weekly competitions with no probs at all so thats why i recommend Simon. You can of course choose to buy from whoever you choose. Good luck with the rebuild.
  12. Well i did mention Alan Whitton Race Engineering as the place to go earlier but perhaps people like to do their own thing.
  13. Dont usually use high compression head on trials engine. I'm running a square head and barrel and use a 2mm spacer between head and barrel to lower compression. Plenty of power still. If you are looking at doing a "fun" budget rebuild then why not use a Motoplat ignition off an Ossa? Just need to turn an adaptor to suit the crankshaft. This is a very popular mod here in the UK. As for the full circle crank i am using one from Simon Bateman (nametab) yes it gives more crankcase compression but the main gain is a much much smoother motor. Some guys here prefer the "bobweight" crank that you have as firstly they are a lot cheaper but they also give a much softer motor. All depends on the sort of power charicteristics you prefer.
  14. That must be one of the two right boots he sold Charlie
  15. Thanks Woody just didnt want to damage anything.

  18. Just shows how out of touch T&MX News is doesnt it ? "Sherco showstopper" no mention of the real star and the biggest news in the trials world this year never mind this week and all they could print is "Sherco showtopper" are they sponsored by Sherco or something ? Just goes to prove i was right in canceling my subs the other year.
