  1. Get an o-ring chain and never even adjust it as long as you own the bike. Drink fewer stouts so you can lose a pound and make up for the extra weight.
  2. A beader is a rubber ring that goes between the rim and the tire to keep all the air from leaking out of tubeless tires while trying to seat the bead. You can also use a bicycle tube (I've forgotten which size since I got my Youmee beader). Most tires cannot be seated without something to fill that gap.

    Brake Pads

Blowlamp... Yikes! The suggestion to heat up your brakes meant to ride around dragging them for a minute or so, then hose down. Works great.
  4. Brake cleaner will damage paint and plastic. Not a good idea. Water works. Propane works best.
  5. Don't be sad... It really is a snap to cut the thing in the middle and add 3/4". That way you won't be adding more parts (extender, nut, bolt) that could cause trouble. Simpler=better.
  6. Take it to somebody who can weld, and add 3/4". Also, make your own cable out of thinner, more flexible wire, and you'll have a clutch that feels very close to hydraulic.

  8. Our 50 began to be hard to start and would miss at high RPM (cut out, actually...felt like a rev limiter). Then, the problem began to creep lower in the RPM range. The old "start swapping parts until the problem goes away" revealed that the coil was the problem.
  9. An o-ring chain will probably last the life of your bike and never wear out your sprockets. They are easily cared for by hosing off and spraying with silicone to condition the o-rings. I know there is some prejudice against them, but I have used nothing but for years. On fast street bikes, they have been dyno-proven to get power to the rear wheel more efficiently than a standard chain, and they are definitely smoother and quieter. If you are so good that the extra pound of weight will affect your riding, don't get one.
  10. OK...I'll type slowly because you probably can't read quickly... I have played with handlebar position on my modern bike quite a bit...going to extremes in both directions just to see what would happen, and I think that moving the handlebars would help. Just an opinion, though...
  11. That plug/bike is fine. The insulator is all you need to look at. Don't go looking for trouble...go for a ride!
  12. And sneezing can hurt! It was 6 weeks, at least, before I could say "choo". Sneezing sounded like this, "aaaahhh...AAAAHHHHHOWWWWW...DAMN!!!" An X-ray isn't a bad idea...broken ribs can interfere with internal organs. I was once being admitted to the hospital for a leg operation, and needed a chest X-ray because I was going to be on my back for a couple weeks, and they wanted to be as sure as possible that I wouldn't get pneumonia. My doctor, who used to get p****d off at me for being wreckless and breaking my body, came storming into the room, slammed the X-ray into the light box and said, "Well...did you know you had 4 broken ribs?" I said, "Um...I, uhhh...I knew I had at least one!" He pulled the X-ray down and left the room shaking his head.
  13. I know this it tough, but what Alan is trying to say here is "go spend a dollar and buy a piece ov PVC pipe to use as a driver", it works! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even I am not so cheap that I wouldn't buy a piece of PVC...I just don't think it would work any better, Also, I work on lots of bikes, and I don't need all those different pieces of pipe around. And, I know that the old seal is going to be an exact fit every time.
  14. I just use the whole old seal. Done hundreds.
  15. Anybody notice that it's gone from 94 to 93 0ctane? Anybody notice a difference?
  16. I think a little more space in the intake tract will give a little more grunt. Keep an eye on the chain. That little thing stretches out fast...especially if you ride it.
  17. Slack everything but top pinch bolts...including fork brace. Then tighten bottom clamp, then axle. Then be sure no bolts on your fork brace are binding in the holes. If so, hog out offending hole. If you're still sticky, you'll probably want to disassemble forks and check them. While they're apart, polish springs with a blending wheel (you can use those scotch-brite-type pads that you can chuck in a drill) and surface fork tubes with #600 emery paper (works best with a lathe).
  18. No throttle when starting, or you'll kick forever.
  19. As far as I know, the only thing that causes kickback is ignition timing. I would retard it a bit more, but make sure it doesn't run too hot.
  20. What do you like better...vanilla or chocolate? If vanilla, buy a Montesa. If chocolate, buy a Sherco. I like chocolate.
  21. I would only use brake fluit, as it's the only thind specifically designed to come in contact with those rubber parts.
  22. Buy a 110 and cut it to length. For a couple extra coppers you can be sure you have enough chain.
  23. The best thing is to get a bike that he can throw around without being intimidated. Too small is better than too big. The mid-size Sherco or Beta are a good bet.
  24. It's why you should always store your switchblades open.
  25. You'll get the drool even if you lean it. Get used to it. Maybe try to get it over to the chain
