  1. Semms a shame to beat up a tire like that when you can just ride in circles for a minute.
  2. Contact Dabster about a tyre beader.
  3. I think you're in prime territory with the Williamsport crowd nearby. I'm far from you. Pottstown...almost to Philly. I sometimes ride in Nesquehoning on about 10,000 acres that used to be a strip mine. I think that's about 1.5 hours from you. PM me with your email, and I'll let you know the next time I head up that way.
  4. You may need an impact gun for the bottom bolt to keep the innards from spinning forever. If you know how to put new seals in without damaging them, you're in good shape. I'm not sure if there's a clip/ring on top of the seal on the Beta, but clean it up well and take a close look.
  5. Nice folks. Tell 'em I said "hey". I wish I had the time to drive the 2.5 hours to ride with those guys.
  6. Chains are tightest when the swingarm is parallel to the ground and output shaft, swingarm pivot and rear axle are in line. At this point, you should have a little slack. Don't mistake movement for slack. Even if the chain is as tight as a banjo string, you can move it. You could disconnect your shock and find this point, adjust the chain, hook it all back up, then see how far your chain tensioner is from the swingarm, and then you'll know for sure. But it seems to me that all of the manufacturers have done this work and have a spec. for this. I think Sherco says 2-3cm. for instance.
  7. Have you found Brian and Gayle yet? They're near Scranton.
  8. On a semi-related note...2-strokes can bump start backwards. If you are teaching a child to ride, be sure you tell him/her to bail off if the bike stalls on a hill. Small displacement bikes with low compression can fire right up in reverse and really hurt a kid.
  9. The tool for wiring can be as simple as a pair of pliers. My "custom" wiring tool is an old screwdriver with 2 small holes in the blade. Insert the 2 ends of the wire, bend them over, pull slightly and twist away. Use aircraft safety wire. I think mine is .040".
  10. Yup. Or cut a straight slot with a Dremel and cutoff wheel. My hand impact driver has a fat bit, so I stack 2 cutoff wheels to make a wide slot.
  11. Yes...best to get a new shaft if the old one has even the slightest grooves in it where it contacts the seals.
  12. If you are getting kickback, your timing is almost certainly too advanced.
  13. Never seen anything like 12 point on a TY. Try some penetrating oil and mild heat on the nut side. The 2 metals may have reacted. Use anti-seize on the thread and grease the spindle when you put it back together.
  14. WD40 is mostly kerosene. Parrafin to you blokes. You can smell it. Certainly a solvent. The spraypaint thing works fine, but I don't know why folks are stuck on clear. I imagine any color would do.
  15. Different brands need different amounts. If this is for your trials bike, consider putting it in your car instead.
  16. Look at his avatar - it's been pi55ing down - it's Britain <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  17. I've drilled my starter jet. Definitely improved cold weather starting. 3 kicks at most. Usually 2. Seldom 4. 5 is right out. As for needing the choke after 1/2 hour of cooling...that's plenty of time for a motor to go stone cold and need choke.
  18. Yes to both of the above. I guess the stainless rod would put both mig and tig out of the question, but I have used stainless rod and a stick welder to weld chromed parts with very nice results. The weld doesn't rust, and doesn't require paint to keep it that way.
  19. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!! I wish you lived near me...I need a candy color and flames job on a HD chopper I'm working on, and I need a good painter!

I've been liking 80:1 because it's 4 ounces in my 2.5 gallon gas can. Easy to remember.
  21. What country do you live in?
  22. No need to yell. Make sure nothing is obstructing the enrichener lever from going all the way up. Use NO throttle when kicking.
  23. I think he said the play is "lateral" which means "side-to-side" to me, and I think a bit of that is acceptable.
  24. Motorcycle repair in a tube! I love it when the cheapest/easiest way works!
