my friend, with an 05 beta 125 seems to have trouble kepping his bike going.
any time i ride it i stall it when i stop, i dont know if its a 125 thing because my 08 250 will tick over for 10 mins, havent left it for any longer,(i assume it will just keep going) petrol isnt getting cheaper.

the sherco 4 stroke makes such a noise when revving down, the popping (back fiering) is so loud it hurt my ears at a distance of over 12 feet. anyone who has heard this knows that it is well above the recomended limits. but this did happen at a brittish round where the high revs are really needed
the beta rev 4 sounds like a sewing machine (possibly a hand blender), haven't heard them revved up much but the are very reasonable.
the montesa's are ok if people leave the bl00dy final restrictor. they dont realise that it is there for a reason, if it wasnt supposed to be there it woudnt be put there by montesa. as for the other restrictors, they are to relive back-pressure and make the bike more efficent, it is very irresposable to remove these in order to just make your bike seem powerful.
the 2 stroke models seem fine, the new beta 2 stroke seems to pop rythmicaly more than tick over, anyone who has head this knows what i am talking about. but it may well be a little loud(for a ticking over bike), its not really loud when being reved up though.
agreed about the point of the bikes being reved up in the carpark, near houses. so why not give the meters to the clerk of the course and he could stop bikes in the moors of wooded areas (possibly not standard conditions) and he can do it there. or an observer may well be able to do it. that may well be a strange thought but our trials usualy have at least a the best part of a mile of moorlands and mostly there is not a house to be seen (unless we are in kinlochleven)

i used a hair dryer to make the rubber soft then it streaches right over no probs, just two mins,
a wee bit of petrol is a good lubricant also because it lubricates then it evaporates, it is good for doing your grips also
-
that even sounds like a sherco.
is that a kehin carb on it?
i liked the red calipers and clutch bleeding bit, but the matt black plastics look a bit tacky

I have just purchased myself a 250 beta 2008. i have moved up from a 2007 sherco 125.
I will start off by saying that the new bike is fantastic, it is a great feeling to be able to ride a section on the bottom end, as opposed to the door bottom end of the 125. the ballance is amazing and the POWER is fast and pleantyfull, what an improvment on the 2007 beta and the sherco.
the air filter is not soaked after EVERY ride like my sherco(super poor designing)(all the mods were done and then some more), no mucky carbs aswell, and you can put petrol in the tank without worriying about rediculusly placed stickers that will crumble at the whiff of petrol.
only one problem, the footbrake lever (i feel) is too short. is it possible to get a slightly longer aftermarket one or a beta one? i keep hitting it by accident, i like to ride on the middle of my boot, at the arch of my foot and usualy catch it from underneath actualy (strangely). have searched for hours to but no avail, so ask for your help guys.
cheers john kennedy

ppffftttttt!!! no. my bike has more pedigree

there is a trial up here two weeks today (6th JULY), i know on the website it says it is at mursirloch, but at the comitty meeting it was agreeed to move it to the mound, (kinlochleven).exactly where the british round was held.(dont worry it will be easy)
this was done because a B route could be made very easy so we can have beginners and inters doing it (and a hard A route for the experts). and because the land owner of murshirloch cannot garentee that the sheep will be off the hill at that weekend.
The trial is well worth the travel and if you have any queeries give me a PM and ill try and help.

Check that yor fuel pipe is on securly on both sides.
Check that you carb bowl is on securly. i.e the brass screw is on securly
as for the ticking over problem,
have you done the water proofing mods. if not search through the forum to find them. try in the sherco specific one. i got water in my carb 9 times out of ten before doing it (crap air box design)
make sure that your air filter is on securly and no dirt is in it. if it is wet (by water) clean it with petrol. of cleaner if you have any. the use a light spraying of PJ1 filter oil.
any water or DIRT in the air box is bad. get it out, dirt could score your barrle and you will lose all bottom end compression
clean the carb out, use compressed air, and make sure you remove the pilot jet (it is very small and will say 34, 36, or 38 on it (PS should be 36)). then put it back in again. fix it all back up again. and it should work.
altrenatively you could do what i done tonight and buy a 2008 beta 250.
PS. i think that we will be heading out on sunday up the glen or up annat so give me a PM with your phone number and ill phone you an saturday night.
-
check your pilot jet (with the manual/website) it sounds like it is too big, and you getting too much fuel and not enough air so it "bogs out".
mine did the same thing. a smaller pilot jet may be the thing, fixed it for me.
also check you petrol screw is not turned out too much. the problem is not a lack of fuel (probably too much), it is a lack of air to mix and react.
the problem is to be expected slightly with a 125 any way but it can be sorted out with the sake of 2-4 pounds for a knew jet.
-
i live and ride in fort william.
there is also a local club, and a trial next sunday. perhaps not for beginners but if you come down and see it. you can talk to members and see about joining, we hold club trials almost every month so it would be worth it
try the lochabermcc website for details.

when i had mine i tryed to physicaly bend it.this worked for a few weeks but it happned again.
The solution was to use a very thick, or two thin washers in where the shocker is attached to the frame and ehaust. this will push it out a few millimeters, just enough to avoid the wheel rubbing.
If you have a hole it really should be replaced, you could possibly get a second hand one from a dealer. I had a hole in my exhaust and it lost so much power, when i got the new part it was like a whole new bike
I would also put a sticker or a vinal plate over the marks for cosmetic reasons and for the reason that a new sticker costs about 5-10 pounds and a new exhaust
-
I had the same sort of problem, check your pilot jet is a 36. I used to have a 38 in mine that was letting too much fuel thruogh, tryed a 34 today and wasnt good. 36 is reccomended
-
Just incase - have you bled properly?i.e. pumping the lever untill no more air bubbles come out of the master cylinder. Leave the top off when doing this.
also have you adjusted the little adjuster at the foot of the lever, sounds like you have to push it in a bit
also is the disk clean, had the same problem with my sherco after weeks i discovred that it was a little drop of grees to blame
-
I had this problem with my pro, then the clutch had trouble releasing a few weeks later.
It could be the spring inside the piston which on the inside of you case your case (the one that pushes the little metal teeth when you pull the ever)
mine snapped then after use got stuck in an awkward place which gave me the problem
Hope this helps!
-
Just gave that a shot and the old dear wasn't too happy at all.
just goes to show that the pro's are not always a good influence
(p.s i am jokeing)
-
I would also suggest that you go for a sherco, when i got my stock 07 it felt much more powerful than my previous bikes.
Now i am a sherco loyal.
-
turning it is a good idea even if you can afford to get a new tyre
i try to get the most from my tyres
(coincidentaly I put a new one on today but the old one had been turned)
if you are going to be in burns and rocks make sure the side treds are in good nick, if not it is probably time for a new one
-
not sure if this is true but a mate told e that if your frame snap you can get a new one on warranty, no matter how old it was. he got one fot his 07 sherco totaly free
If i was you I would check with you dealer, you might get a nice shiny new one for free
-
If I was you I would set up sections simelar to the indoor rounds, then have a 4-stroke only day.
(2-strokes only allowed if they remove thier silencing packing.)
Then tell him that two 50cc bikes are minimal noise compared to what noise you could create.
WISH MY GARDEN WAS BIG ENOUGH FOR SUCH A LAUGH!!!!
-
Go for renthal grips. you will just lose the little orange bit in the dolmio grip
The sets are good i got some for my hammred gasgas and they were great
-
The manual says 2% (50-1) i would recomend that you do that(fully synthetic).
the 2 stroke oil lubricates the main bearings and everything else, so its importiant you dont sieze up your bike (piston)
this is a very expencive repair as a friend has found out.
its better to have more than not enough... better to be safe than sorry ect...
-
over the last few weeks i have developed a sore left hand, more the pinky and the adjasent finger.
the pain often runs down the wrist
I personaly think it could be a tendon problem but i am not sure, it seems to occur when doing a big step... i think it is to do with gripping the bars and pulling back hard
tried many things to stop this;diffrent gloves, no gloves, new grips, extending legs more, the worst was stopping riding for two weeks(that was a grim last resort) went back on bike then after an hour or two it was back.
does anyone else get this problem?, if so how did you sort it?
-
I have always been a fan of micheal, but never beta
But his bike at the trial really was something, it looked brilliant
had to check close in the pics to make sure it was a beta (only kidding lads)
-
I am 17, could do it after about 20mins of getting used to a bike (for the first time out on one in 8 years).
The best tip is to make sure that your suspension is set up correctly. (The photo above has the perfect travel, try fiddling around with the rebound setting).
Compress your forks (vital part)
By bending knees and pull back, leaning slightly to the side you want to go
When pulling back slightly straighten your knees
(holding clutch and at least the bake brake, frount helps me but some mates dont need to)
Compress shocker with as much force as possible (till you gat the hang)
As you fell the shock spring moving back up grip with feet, lean to the desired side
And PUSH forward don
-
done all that, must have been the hoseing down.ill take more care in future
