  1. There are some big advantages in using Titanium rather than plastic or PVC fork guards. 1 They will protect the forks much better 2 They look and are cool / stylish 3 The effect on observers and fellow riders may be sublime when competing in a rocky trial - just imagine the sparks if you inadvertantly drag the fork leg againt a rock!
  2. GRIP Rider Skill comes First - A good ridder will find Grip Tyre condition comes second - a new tyre is 'more grippy' than a worn out one Bike Choice comes 3rd A good rider will find grip on a bald tyre on a bike which others claim does not grip wit

    Your Bikes

nice to see some photos of 'exotic' & older bikes for a change . not too interested in numerous Betas, gas gas, sherco et al with different coloured plastics, pretty stickers & red bolts. Why not start a new topic - pictures of interesting bikes & put the really interesting pictures there. Sorry to be negative!

    Ajs/matchless

The CSR was classed as a 'super sports' roadster by AMC. As John says the C stood for competition in AMC parlance, S stood for sprung or sports in this case and R stood for Roadster. A popular desctription was Coffee Shop Racer due to the styling. There was a scrambles version the 14CS which ran from 1959 to 1962 - it may be this bike has a 14CS Scrambles frame which has been fitted with CSR cases/engine sometime in its life? I aint an expert by any means - I just happen to have good book sitting by my PC. I suggest that you contact the AJS and Matchless owners club or at least browse their website - their website is http://www.jampot.com/ This might help you to find out what the bike you have is - I have just re-read your post and see this is what you are doing. Cann you post a picture on this site? Gordon

    Ajs/matchless

    14 CSR is a 250cc AJS prefix from 1962 - 1966
  6. It always is - perhaps its something to do with the location? I guess I better enter soon before the entry closes
  7. As for the lighter fluid - glad to hear I was not halucinating when I remembered seeing that at a trial in the Inverness area a few years ago. Yes it did make a bang and was effective. Mind you i wouldnt like to try it close to a bike!

    Honda Tl 200 Parts

Many of the engine parts are similar to other Hondas - eg XL125/185 or XR200. sOME PARTS CAN BE PURCHASED FROM DAVE SILVER SPARES but it is unlikely that they are listed under the bike name. I would suggest Colin Appleyards unless your local dealer has a Microfiche. What parts do you need?
  9. Mark Would a gas cartridge have sufficient pressure or volume to force a tyre onto the bead? I have seen someone put some lighter fluid in a tyre then light it - this seated the tyre with a bang - I wouldnt like to try that though!
  10. Does anyone have any literature or information on Gollner Mono TLR Hondas? I have a Mono 250 I am in the process of rebuilding In addition does anyone have a TLR250 or 200 airbox lying around - any condition? I also may be interested in 35mm (TLR250) fork legs. Gordon
  11. Yes hopefully it will - but then there will be no pressure at the next trial and thats when you start making the silly mistakes that count. I heard about the water tainting problem - lets hope that nothing comes of it - it will be a shame to lose that bit of ground.
  12. Ah but John you forgot to add your ' highlight of the day' in that you were the only member of your team not to 5!
  13. Watched the Inverness Youth team for a couple of laps - they were running round near to us and you could see that they all wanted to do well - helping and encouraging each other in the harder sections. They deserved to win.
  14. If you can find the correct grade alloy you can make extensions to the original bash plate and bolt these on with countersunk M8 bolts. The alloy can be shaped quite easily using heat. This seems to work OK for me on my TLR after i got fed up seeing mior damage on the side casings. I have no direct access to alloy welding and wanted the guards quickly for a rocky trial where damage was likely. (I have no idea what grade alloy i used, suffice to say I did not pay for it but if its good enough for an aircraft it is good enough for me!) If you do damage a casing I have now seen a TLR250 which has been fitted with an XL185 clutch casing, I always wondered whether it would fit but you need to use the XL clutch operating mechanisim as well.

    Tlr 200 Stickers

Does this source also do the same for TLR250 - ie Honda Wing in Red White & Blue?

    Rtl-250

John I am disappointed in you I was hoping you would give me a straight swap for my TLR given that a Monoshock bike might improve my riding and i cant stand the stench of 2 stroke fumes . Given that most 2 strokes remind me of mopeds, chainsaws and autocycles - there are some exceptions but these are on race tracks, powering sidecars or are pre 1965 - preferably pre 1930!!! Good entry on Sunday? Any space for twinshock riders yet?
  17. Kenny Just found this before I dig out bike to come up and see you http://www.nmpcs.com/cubs/cubforum
  18. At that price Mark I am quite happy to fit a tubeless tyre to the bike with a tube in it - lets just say I was pleasantly surprised when i was quoted the price. I must admit a new tyre does not do that much for my performance. Perhaps next year i will be able to get my tyres as part worn ones from my local SSDT competitor. G
  19. Why not just fit a tube? I know tubeless tyres are supposed to be used tubless but this is what many guys do at the SSDT.
  20. Where tyres are concerned it is possible to get trials tyres at a very good price IF you are careful and use a little nerve/savvy. Go to your local bike show - there is usually one stand which has some trials tyres - wait until the show is nearly finished ie 4pm or so and approach the stand for the price of tyre. Point out to the stand holder that it is better that you take home the tyre rather than him and make an offer which is close? to what he quoted you. 9 times out of 10 you can make a deal which suits both parties - remember money talks but credit cards add to price. I got a Michelin rear for
  21. Boofont How do you make a Scorpa competetive is the question you should be asking ? I have seen a well prepared an ridden Cub beat a Scorpa in the same class and same trial on a regular basis. Its not what you have but the way you use it!

OBSERVERS - Sue was and always is a 1st class observer, she always appears to be observing when I do a national trial (which is not that often I hasten to add!) As for the quality of observers in Bon Accord and Inverness trials the organisers 'usually' try to pair up an inexperienced observer with a rider who is giving up his day to ride or an experienced observer - that way they both learn the ropes and do a valid part in helping with the running of the trial. section standards As far as I am aware the standard of A sections is aimed to the top half of the A group. Gary we all would agree - unless he has an off day - and it does happen is expected to be at the top or towards the top of the pile. I for one enjoy watching Gary riding in the 'local' events. The comment about setting sections to take points of Gary was I suspect made in jest. It must be remembered that to score Zero means that the rider has been concentrating the whole day and has not made one slip up - this takes some doing whether in the A or B route . It also takes a lot of skill and even more practice - whats the best practice - riding in events! Can the gent with the post criticising observers, standard of sections and riders competing in local events manage this each time out ?

Unfortunately I will also miss Alvie, its a pity that it clashes with the British Superbikes at Knockhill. I have arranged to go to the race instead with some friends. Hopefully the water level will not be too high! Some of the usual sections will be quite entertaining with an extra foot of water.
