  1. I thought the FIM was onsite for just such decisions and provide continuity from event to event. Did they not account for the slow creeping style that no-stop encourages when your not riding up slippery stream beds?
  2. I suspect that is a 2T impeller and will not fit the 4t. See post above about part numbers.
  3. They have different part numbers, so I suspect it is a no go. Also, the Jitsie catalog only lists a 2t specific wp impeller.
  4. The pipe could be bent. I have also seen several bikes where the midbox gets twisted/shifted from light to heavy crashes and makes refitting a pipe (even the same one that just came off) difficult to fit back on. The midbox typically gets torqued pretty good when the rear silencer gets hit. Seems like youve already tried to make midbox adjustments, but maybe worth another look. If you haven't done so already, make sure all the midbox mounts are loose before trying to the align pipe. good luck.
  5. OK, some of that is true, but rather than argue semantics, I think his overall assessment is very true in a free market. At 10.000 ft, I think he said that the market regulates itself and dont try to control it with arbitrary rules. I'll add that I think that the current regulation is just wrong for many, many reasons. The extreme lack of transparency is a really bad sign here. Very poorly done IMO. If you want a decent, reliable trials bike go buy a Honda. Whats stopping you? Just because its 20 lbs too heavy - dont regulate the others. Fix It! For people to say that there good clubman bikes, then prove it and support them. If people buy them in great numbers, the others will follow. However, Its not the markets problem that Honda decided that 4t's were the ultimate solution to everything on 2 wheels (or water). If they want to compete, use engineers, not politicians. If the lightweight bikes are crap, they will fail, as they should. No propaganda needed. The fact that they are holding the largest market share would indicate that most people think there cost/performance/reliability and support is just fine.
  6. Its exactly that simple. The Montesa has not sold well for the last several years because it was heavy and over priced. They have helped sales this year by improving performance and reducing cost - as Mickl's model suggests.
  7. You can buy heavier bikes right now. Why not leave it at that? Folks who want reliable, can buy the heaviest bike they can find if they think it helps. Meanwhile, those who want a light bike and are willing to put up with any lack of reliability (real or not)should be able to do the same. What does forcing people to buy heavier bikes accomplish - nothing but animosity and further division of a small group IMO. Leave it alone. Let the individual decide whats best for there own needs. Why isnt anyone pushing for quieter bikes. Its well established that more sound = less ground. If people were really interested in growing the sport, those type of issues would be of primary importance. Meanwhile, 4t's still get to be obnoxiously loud and turn off land owners. Im all for making all bikes less noisy.

  10. Just imagine if Honda actually made the direct injected two stroke that was flying around in cyberspace yesterday. It would be fantatsic if they would realize that not every solution in motorsports is best optimized with the 4t design space they have pigeonholed themselves with. With the resurgence of 2t in MX, I can only hope Honda would apply there "unrestricted" engineering talents toward what the market wants rather than lobbying for what they want.
  11. That the type of vent that lets water in, but doesn't let it out. Dont know. All I can personally say is that I used play in a stream alot and was concerned with all the crap I was finding in the side case and air box. After I vented the case, I noticed a much cleaner/dryer mag side. In terms of pulling a vacuum still, that would depend on alot of factors. I think venting is a good idea, but thats just an opinion. After you invest the time in doing these types of things to your bike, it kind of becomes a feel good item, so I may be all wet in terms of objectiveness.
  12. Personally, (as I have said before) I think the market should decide. If somebody believes a modern mono trials bike with a air cooled head and barrel is the answer, then they should produce it and reap the rewards of an exploding market that has been waiting for such a bike. If they are successful, the others would surely follow. It seems to me that all the modern bike OEMs have followed a long history of technical innovation in developing the next best thing. Maybe this is the time for something different, but I seriously doubt anything the FIM mandates will be the answer. (at least from this shoot from the hip - no market data based group now in place) NONE of the modern OEMs are selling tons of there cheaper, heavier bikes as compared to the light weight and expensive versions. Forcing them to do so to grow the market is not a rational conclusion. NONE of the 2t OEMS have publicly supported any of the changes. In fact, all the new bikes seem to fly in the face of the new rules. Interestingly, The videos of all the WTC riders practicing seem to indicate they haven't given up on the stop and hop techniques either. To those folks who point out that the OEMS arent forced to change, only the WTC riders, then I would ask what good are the rules then. There supposed to help drive sales somehow. It seems backwards to me. In the past, weight limits were put in place to protect the small manufactures that didn't have the deep wallets of the big three who could outspend everyone else to gain insurmountable advantage. Now, its the small guys with the advantage and the big ones pulling for the changes for regulation to remove the competitive advantages. I say produce what you want and let the market decide. If your a big manufacturer, use your extensive engineering to win the market. Or Even maybe your extensive marketing group that can unveil the huge market for next big thing in trials - heck, maybe even a low cost, super reliable, air cooled mono. If all you (FIM) can come up with, is "well something had to be done", then sorry, I doubt many will rush to follow your lead. (I point to exhibit A - this long thread) Cheers.

Boatloads of sealant may work for alittle while, but water will get sucked in over time(per the vacuum, that's even stronger now because its sealed better) and will now have a more difficult way out. Hence, your ignition will ALWAYS be wet! Letting it drain out, per the drilled hole, will let it eventually dry out. I prefer the vent for anyone who rides in alot of water (read anyone who lives/rides in England) - occasional water crossings - the hole is OK. I used yamabond on the cover gaskets of my 250 (vented) and it was always very clean inside. Also, make sure you dont over torque the cover or it will warp. You can find low profile 90 degree fitting and hose as a aquarium supply store. Cheap too! Run the hose up the front frame strut and under then tank.

    I agree with your assessment, but would point out that its not a yamaha motor. I believe its made by Jianshe motor out of China. I hear there decent motors (not typical Chinese junk by any means) and while similar to the yamaha, not identical. I was reading on another forum that Scorpa used the Jianshe 125 in 2009 on for the TY. (Cant remember if thats when Sherco took over)
  16. Dab - did you check your fuel flow? I had a bike that would run lean over time, especially when fuel was in demand, and it turned out the fuel tank vent was clogged. Also - I dont mind confusing questions as im confused most of the time and it makes me feel right at home.
  17. Dont forget, when a hot motor hits cold water, the rapid cooling will create a vacuum inside the case and literally suck in any water. I think JSE posted some pics of his mag side vent mod he did to his bike to prevent a vacuum build up. If you ride in alot of streams, worth a look. I vented my old 250, and noticed it stayed nice and dry. I have been lazy and haven't touched my 2011 280, so its a do as I say type of thing in my case. Did you get your air filter wet? I like those exhaust plates that act as a splash guard for (help) preventing water splash into the air box opening.
  18. Did you remove and look at the Pilot Jet? Was it partially clogged? What size jets are in there?
  19. Would typically be mag side seal. You can try spraying carb cleaner in and check for idle speed change. I personally like to do a leak down test, but you need a few plugs and guage. There are alot of threads on here regarding leaky crank seals across all the brands and many folks have there tricky favorite methods. Just make sure you start with the simple 1st. Clean the carb. Change the gas. What is your jetting? Start there - especially if the bike runs good everywhere else. If its been cold in your area, and the bike was setup for warm, humid weather, it could be lean just from the temp/dry change. Need to know your jet sizes, but given where your air screw is, its start with the pilot and work my way up. (does the bike ping when you chop the throttle at the top of a climb?) Also - another simple thing is fuel flow. Obviously, up a long climb, if your fuel supply is restricted, you run dry/lean by the top. Easy as pulling the line off the carb and look at the flow. Theres a filter up in the petcock that can get plugged. As others said, if your floats were not set right, you can starve the motor. If your fuel valve is too small (I use a 300) you can problems. all of these are pesky little issues, but far more typical than the crank seals. (not that the seals never have problems) You may just resort to thinking some of these things dont describe some of the issues your having, but when it comes to finding what the problem is, sometimes you must 1st find what the problem isnt! Easy enough to cross alot of the simple things off the list. I cant tell you how many times its been one of these simple things in my experience.
  20. Could be crank seals, but pretty uncommon on GG's. Check for leaks. Clean the carb real well as a 1st step. (Check pilot for clogs) +1 on 48 pilot.

  22. The clamp was probably initially designed for the 40mm Zokes and reused on the 39mm Tech forks.
  23. When riding the original prototypes, the test rider insisted the bike needed more balls....
  24. I dont think it will be a problem. Its a known issue that they have been actively fixing.
  25. GG has/is replacing all the original plastic race/raga 13 tanks on the bikesshipped to the USA for that exact reason. Have you talked to your dealer about it?
