  1. South of the river, is the south eastern centre, and there is normally at least one if not more, trails on each weekend. lots of event surrey way. DOn't know too much about north of the river i'm afraid.... http://www.southeasttrialscombine.org.uk/
  2. a nuclear powered sub's (SSN, SSB, or even SSGN) is limited mainly by crew endurance (ie food!). gaps between refuelling is like decades (they do US aircraft carriers once in the ships 30-40 year lifetime) conventional subs (SSK's) have snorkels and even now "air independent" propulsion for the diesel-electrics engines. i think the aussie's Collin's class are some of the biggest non nuclear subs allowing them to almost compete with the nuclear subs.
  3. there are various free or shareware ftp programs out there. if you have all the data for your website you *should* just be able to upload with ease, i've been using WS_FTP for about 8 years.
  4. I was working for the ACU all weekend up there, bloody great time, saw loads of famous people. the red bull FREE bar on both Saturday and Sunday night in the pits was very good! If only Billy hadn't of dropped it on that corner we would have been on the podium (ohh well!).
  5. Belfast is *only* a heavy cruiser, we in the UK (stupidly) scrapped all our battleships!
  6. you have a separate signing on form for the rider, so they sign the ACU one, then the RTA insurance form. they have to fill in their bike's registration (most of the time you might know this from the entry form so if you use a database you can just drop it in). riders have to tick to say they don't fall into the exemptions (stuff like under 21, points on licence, etc). now i'm of the opinion that you include the RTA cover in entry fee and make riders all sign it. you do though then have to get the riders to own up if they don't meet the 4 exemptions (easiest is under 21's) and get them to apply to the insurance co to ride (my sister and some friends both all had to do this), costs a little bit more. it's not insurmountable but we're thus making the fundamental shift from the onus of road legality going from the rider to the club (in some ways) - i don't see this as a problem, but i recall that John Collins slightly disagrees BTW I've CofC'ed two LDT's this year with around 70-80 riders and we've worked along these sort of lines (ie it works)

then put in your suplemtnary regs something about minimum seat height, or something that effectivly bars trials bikes. by making the events so though, riders are prepared (and fit enough) to put up with discomfort, lack of fuel capacity, etc of trials bikes
  8. current advice/recommendation from John Collins is that we can't stop a rider from inspecting a section, because the rider doesn't then have the opportunity to say "i don't feel competent to attempt the section" and request a 5 for the section. over in mx, we have a similar thing - ie the riders sign on to say they are competent to attempt the course ie offering them the chance to back if they are not. presumably road race and grass track do the same thing. however I'm unclear where one would stand with a rally, enduro, H&H, etc where its unrealistic to expect a rider to inspect the course (your lucky if they walk the special test) Don't get me wrong, if we (the clubs), asked the ACU to ask the insurance company, i think the risk in insurable, it just might be there are issues re our "duty of care" as organisers personally, one could set out simple sections, with starts (esp at LDTs) far away that discourage but don't prohibit riders from seeing much/inspecting the section
  9. only need a parent or guardian to sign your entry form if your under 16, as the the application form includes the annual disclaimer for parents/guardians ....
  10. under the 1995 planning act (for england and wales), you (the landowner/leaseholder) have 28 days of "permitted development" to use the land for purposes other than wha tit has planning for (ie agriculture). *but* if its an SSSI or national park, then you need planning permission. if you want to use it for a "noisy" use (the act lists "motor racing", clay pigeon shooting, boot fairs, etc) then you only have 14 days. more advice can be found on the LARA website (http://www.laragb.org/) there are a few other legal hoops you should jump through, but that's the main one they will try and get you on
  11. its one thing to do indoor enduros and outdoor 2/3hr extreme enduros, but comparing that to "proper" 2day (or even 4 or 6 day) enduros (ie BEC/WEC) with road work (wales), or 6 hours of slot riding (Breckalnd/Muntjac) or woops (natterjack), etc then the advantage of a trials bike goes that said i have great fun marshalling / CofC'ing enduros on my trials bike
  12. its a good point re "competing" with other people who hire land (eg MX & Enduros but also 4x4s, RC cars, boot fairs, clay pigeons, etc) forestry commission and MOD do different rates for trials to enduros (MX tyres have been banned from MOD land for 3 or so decades), but it works out very expensive for the
  13. you guys do enduros differently state side so i wouldn't like to say ....
  14. if you were to be practising illegally say and "causing offence" then section 59 of the police reform act (2003???) might also apply in Scotland (it does in england and wales), which upon your second warning allows the police to seize your bike sorry Scottish law isn't my strongpoint
  15. one might have drawn a correlation with REME running an enduro down the road on another bit of large army land the day before, and the SEEC running a very large national enduro opposite the Talmag site on that day .....
  16. one might note that the local enduros lads have blagged another huge patch of army land across the road for the team enduro, thus throwing a spanner in the MOD's workings. It really shouldn't be a problem, but the Talmag can't move to any other MOD land (and there's lots of it that local clubs use) because of the need to park about 1,000 vehicles (trust me all us in the local trials scene have tried).
  17. In case anyone didn't hear this sunday's Talmag Trophy Trial, the big annual pre 65 British bike meet at Hungry Hill, Aldershot has been cancelled due the MOD withdrawing the land
  18. road legal bike and your bike licence. guys (and gals) do these events on enduro type bikes, pamperas, ttr's, serrows, scropa long rides, pre 65 trials bikes, dakar bikes, etc, etc reason i gave this was the orgional poster said his long term aim was to ride a LDT
  19. here is a site that lists all LDTs in the UK - http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=n...ndar.google.com
  20. TBM classifieds have a few trials bikes in
  21. i've done the same, when i "borrowed" *my* sidecar (on "loan" to my parent who rode British champs sidecars) and gave it a go. truly a black art!
  22. image shack - type it into google and it will give you the site URL, then follow the really easy instructions as to vans, most vans come with tie down points, and from what i can tell its mostly down to individuals how they tie their bikes down in a van. i'm convinced i snapped the old bars on my beta from strapping the hook to the bars, so i've brought some funky KTM tie downs that have a loops to go over the bars so you don't have metal on metal. in our latest van, we've a very complex partition, adding a second set of seats (with seatbelts) and wheel holders that is completely removable, its probably way over the top for you though!
  23. its a long lost nickname from when i was at secondary school and first got on the internet oh about 8 years ago. since then they stopped using that nick name, i had a different one at uni (pickle ...) and it is now quite strange. many people know me across many internet motorcycling boards know me by this name (although my real name in no secret). that and most people can't pronounce it right (they say rabbi - am i a Jewish priest ? rather than "ray - bee"). c'est la vie
