  1. Had a brand new TXT80 back in 2002, it had a hunger for spark plugs. I always carried a new one in my pocket, you just never knew when it was going to go. Once it stopped, the only way to get it going was a new plug. Fit one and it would start the very next kick. Apart from that, it was a fantastic little bike and never let us down once! Pete
  2. In both our Sammy Miller Championship round and our Trail Bike Championship round we have a non championship class for any machine,
  3. Only a thought but... before you buy a cdi, it might be worth checking compression. It would be terrible to buy a new cdi and then find out it was a simple case of a blown head gasket (o ring?)
  4. You've got little choice but to put the boards out. You can hardly ask nine riders to give up their ride to observe when you've only got 26 there.
  5. Yes you're right, £100 wasn't worth having. Even if the ten trials per year would have given a meaningful amount. If you are paying someone to do something, it could be argued that you are employing them. If we are short of observers I simply stick the boards out, I know it's not ideal but what else should I do? Scrap the sections... scrap the event?
  6. But would we get away with paying £20? Does that make us their employer? If so, surely it would open up a whole massive set of issues. Employers Liability Insurance, tax returns, health and safety rules, working conditions, I don't know what else. On a different note. A few years ago I approached ot local cadet force and offered them a £100 cash donation to club funds per event if they could supply 10 observers. They weren't interested, even though they are always holding fund raising days.
  7. This release has been circulated by the ACU. Re: ACU Trail Bike Championship We would wish to draw you attention to the Regulations for this Championship and in particular the following:- No 4. Course. Please take note of the recommendations and requirements detailed in this section. No 3. Eligibility: We have received several queries with regard to eligible bikes and would reiterate that this is a Trail Bike Championship and is aimed at these machines. At present, eligibility states that the Championship class is open to Trail machines with working lights, pillion seats and trials spec tyres as per TSR8. Trials bikes or converted Trials bikes should not be allowed in this class. Additionally, it states that a list of ineligible machines will be held at the ACU. We in turn send this out to the organisers. Of late, manufactures are starting to produce some dual purpose type machines with an emphasis on road legality etc and this is to be applauded. However, in many cases the frame geometry etc is still very much “ trials” oriented and as such we have some concern that these machines, especially if further modified, will move far closer to normal trials machines than Trail machines. The concern is that there may be a tendency for such machines to over influence the design of sections, particularly if the more able riders choose this type of machine. Consequently the T & E Committee have tried to formulate a list of ineligible machines, based on the desire to maintain the Trail bike concept. The specified wheelbase we feel is an indicator of the division between Trail and Trial and as a norm, machines with a specified wheelbase of less than 1350mm would fall into the Trial bike category and not be eligible for Championship points. As you are aware, organisers often include a Non Championship class, and these machines could of course compete in this class, and it may be that the Organiser would wish to provide a separate award for such machines etc. The T & E Committee will look more closely at the eligibility regulations for 2013, but for 2012 would ask for your assistance in maintaining this Championship in its present format. The machines below are classed as ineligible for the Championship class in 2012. Any machine that in the view of the organiser is a converted Trials machine or does not meet the eligibility requirements listed in Point 2. The following models are also ineligible for Championship class:- Honda TLR 250 Honda TLR 200 ( including the imported Reflex type machines) Scorpa Longride Gas Gas Radonne T & E Committee
  8. A free ride for any rider who supplies an observer always helps. It certainly makes it easier to approach someone to ask. We just added £1 to each entry fee to help cover the loss of revenue. I don't always get 10 observers, but don't beat yourself up too much if you can't. I just stick the board out and tell the riders to observe themselves. It's not ideal, but you can't make people do it. As an organiser, there's enough to think about without worrying about something that's beyond your control Pete
  9. I had the frame and fork legs done in white, the swingarm, footpegs, yokes, side stand, sump guard and a handfull or brackets done in satin black. I degreased it and blanked off all the holes etc myself (that's suprisingly time consuming) and it cost £150. One colour would have been £100, but I really wanted a white frame. In reality it did cost a bit more, as you strip a bike down that far, you always find other things that need replacing that you would otherwise have missed/ignored. I put it back together with new bearings and stainless steel fasteners which added another £50 or so. (Search online for bearing numbers if you need any. Bearings from bearing companies are a lot cheaper than ones from motorcycle manufacturers.) I hope this helps. Pete
  10. Strip it down, remove the old stickers, grease and dirt with degreaser. Remove or cover the bearings and put some old bolts in the open thread holes. Take it to a powder coating company and choose a colour. It will look like new. The only problem with this is it's addictive. Once you've had one part powder coated, you won't want to stop!
  11. In 1989 it was estimated that John Bloor put $60,000,000 of his own money into Triumph. http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/history-triumph-motorcycle.html I think this may have made some difference to the Chapman BSA
  12. The Chapman BSA would have been a success if it'd had Bloors millions backing it like Triumph. As it was, the bike was turned into a trials bike by a couple of fellas in a workshop in Evesham.
  13. Welcome to TC. One of our club trials will be at Hook Norton on the 28th July, that isn't too far from Banbury. Pete
  14. Fashion looks good on some people. I'd love to be bale to get away with that look. Even if I lost three stone I'd still look like a twerp.
  15. There were still a few TXT's around in 2003, after the Pro's were launched in 2002.
  16. This won't help your original but if you arte using Youtube to host a video, there is an edit facility where you can turn your video through 90 deg either way. Pete
  17. That was me after the Colmore when the other-half saw the mess I was putting in the washing machine!
  18. Well I didn't expect that!
  19. If I forget to turn the fuel off when mine is on the trailer, the bouncing along on the road causes it to flood. All I do is turn the tap off, hold the throttle wide open and keep kicking. It always goes eventually. To give the leg a help, I stand on the trailer and kick from above. Can't guarantee this will be your problem, but worth a try. Pete
  20. It's the colour of the sub heading at the top of each page and in the info boxes on the left of each post I am struggling with. I can see it, but not easily. Eg, Look in the info panel at the side of this post. The word 'Location' is black and I cansee that fine, but then the words 'Evesham, Worcs.' is light grey and is harder to read. My monitor/settings may be an issue or it might just be my old eyes. Overall I like the new version!

  22. I've always found the Worcester Office very helpfull. I've registered trials bikes and a Yamaha enduro bike in the past. I've only been asked to return with one for an inspection and they didn't even want it off the trailer. My only disapointment has been the age of the plate that was issued. The bike was unused 2006 model, (the cert of newness had been lost but the bike had never turned a wheel.) The letter from Yamaha stated that it had been built two years previously, so DVLA issued a plate from January of that year. Instead of getting a 56 reg as I was hoping, it ended up being a 53. I was lucky enough for the process to be completed without any problems.
  23. At the moment, I find the mid grey letters on the light grey background a little hard to see.
