  1. Cheers for the input. I can notice a difference in power when using a different air filter, I have 2, one on and one clean spare. When I put the jitsie filter on it fells sluggish, the ''twin air'' filter seems to make it wake up a bit....
  2. After a whopping 10 mins out on the bike I noticed a leak, coming from the hole in the crank-case below the water pump........bugger..... I have found a viton oil seal on a bearing web site that is the correct size, but the seal I removed was just a rubber scraper seal. Will the viton seal work, or is there a reason for it not having this as standard - will it wear the shaft. Please help.
  3. I had the same problem, I just drilled the M6 tapped holes out to 6.5mm and then used M6 button heads and a small nut on the rear - and a bit of thread locker. It has been fine since. I had to grind the nuts down slightly for them to fit neatly, and only the Eagle eyed amongst us would spot them. Bit of a rough repair but it works well and costs nothing. Just the way I like it.
  4. I've found a txt270 contact for sale, looking through the museum I think its 1998-99 but am not sure. The engine is painted red as on earlier JTX, someone could have painted it though... Firstly - Are they any good. - How is the power delivery Availability of parts, I have a 96 scorpa and this guy will part x, I think for little cash... Is the gasser any better than the scorpa, I am aware that on a gasser forum I can predict the answer to this but Ive been told you are an honest bunch..... Thanks, Andy.
  5. Problem - the bike seems under-powered, especially when you compare it to my brothers cota 315R, I am not sure if this is usual cos I didn't expect there to be so much difference between two 250 2strokes. Perhaps reeds or maybe something else..... Any comments gratefully received. The difference is on his bike just tottering round then wind it up - front end skyward. On my bike, I have to work it hard to get same result. I only go out for couple of hours and look like I've run a marathon.......in the rain. What I'm saying is, should the power difference be expected or is there something wrong.....can this only be rectified by buying a newer bike.
  6. I couldn't help notice that girl on X-Factor wearing a Sherco suit, a good advert for trials, and she is very easy on the eye. Oh, and she can sing. - If only I wasn't too old, ugly and married...........
  7. I know they're not brilliant, but I've just purchased a shiro commander helmet and it is pretty good. I don't look like ive just got out of the shower after taking it off, as it has lots of air vents. Its certainly good enough for practice, I think it costs about
  8. Sorry. Didn't mean any harm by it....Feel a bit guilty now. Just how did you manage to cripple a 2008 ?
  9. Your story was great, it really cheered me up, to think......somebody had a worse day than me. Aren't bikes fun...
  10. Thanks for the info guys, allthough it's in vain - I've just heard that some f***ing robbing b***ard has nicked it from his garden shed....The poor guy is gutted. Also stolen was a quad, and a thumpstar... FYI, the bike in question was in his opinion a - 2000 beta 250 dougie lampkin replica - with broken (yawn) rear mudguard...... Thanks... Andy.

    What Model ?

Can somebody please help, somebody has offered me a ''Dougie Lampkin replica Beta 250'' 2002/3, is this a problem. I'm not sure as to when doug started with montys but I'm half sure it was before, during and after this..... I haven't seen the bike yet, but am looking forward to seeing something bizarre... It was a friend of a friend who told me about the bike - I guess its chinese whispers, bike will be a rev 3 or montesa 315 or maybe some kind of high powered mutant - who knows... Please help...
  12. Hi, Does anybody know of any places to practice trials, close to Merseyside - I live in St. Helens, and the closer the better. The fields near me are getting a bit boring now, Any info on venues would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy.
  13. Thanks for that. I have decided that the thing fitted to the top of the fan is the regulator, (theyre not gonna fit the lights reg there and the fan reg somewhere else - are they?). After getting a description from birketts I just wanted to check the details - Black box with four pins - LEFT PIN - black from fan LEFT MIDDLE PIN - green/red from loom RIGHT MIDDLE PIN - green from loom RIGHT PIN - black/blue from fan I know Ive missed out the temp switch but will be adding in later. Please correct me if this is wrong, as it seems that the fan spins faster with the bike at higher revs - surely this is why there is a regulator in the first place, ( along with ac - dc conversion ). All help gratefully recieved. Thanks, Andy
  14. Hi, please help! Does anybody know where I can get a fan regulator/rectifyer, or if there is a compatible one from another bike. I am not sure if there is one on my bike, there is something located above the fan in an almost impossible to reach place, but I think Ive read this is the lighting regulator. Can anybody clarify, its driving me mad, this weather is killing it with no fan....if you listen carefully you should hear it scream... All info gratefully recieved. Thanks, Andy.
  15. The rotation of the mixture screw depends on what side of the carb the screw is on, air-side or engine side. If its air-side then screwing it in reduces air thus making it ''rich'' If its engine side then screwing it in reduces fuel thus making it ''lean'' If anyone feels I have got this wrong, feel free to call me on it... And yes, it does sound like a blocked pilot jet, my advice is clean, clean again, and again, and again, and than one more for good luck.... I used a tin of carb cleaner and 2 strands from a thin wire rope, you probably shouldn't do this, but it worked for me.
  16. just a little update - the guy I bought the bike from sent me the old carb ( the correct one ) and I bought new jets from dellorto uk, cleaned it out about 6 or 7 times and she runs sweet now.... Thanks to all who offered info - Dellorto, Peter Knight(ROTAX) and Birketts......and others.... Does anybody know how to wire the fan. Ive found a green wire with some power in it but cant find a voltage regulator, I think the one above the fan was for the lights, will it work, I don't know, or should I buy one from somewhere......does anybody know where to buy or what part number, or should I phone Nigel at Birketts AGAIN..
  17. Hi, this isn't much help, but if you find a place to buy parts from be sure to give them a mention --please--. I have the same bike and its very difficult trying to locate parts. Are you sure the carb is the right one - I have just removed a 30mm carb because the bike wouldn't run and fitted a standard 26mm and all is fine.....I think.....
  18. does anybody know where I can get a replacement fan motor from, Im from the northwest uk. Thanks,
  19. As for the plug, Ive just bought an iridium tip one, after hearing that they work ok, even if the coil is weaker than it should be. I think its a BPR6EIX, hope it works well.
  20. Ive just stripped the carb from the bike - dellorto phbh30, from everything I've read this is the wrong one, but should it work, is it a direct replacement, and does anybody have any info on the set up for it.. Thanks.... Andy.
  21. Hello again, after removal of the flywheel cover from my 96 scorpa easy I was greeted by a flywheel with ''hammer rash''. I was thinking of geting it turned down slightly to remove the dents, can this be done, will there be any negative side effects from the reduction in diameter.. Also, I was wondering, if I am getting it turned down, would there be any advantage in having the new outside diameter threaded ( very fine ) in such a way that any crap that gets in there would be forced to the cover end.....How would this affect centrifugal forces?. Just a thought... Andy.
  22. Thanks, Ive been out today and it seems to be worse. I checked the plug again and its oily as hell, what plug should I get for it as the one I took out was a NGK BP8ES, not sure if this is right. Also, do you know where I can get an air filter as there isn't one on it.... I checked the carb over and it is clean, its brand new.. One more thing (for now), do you know the settings for the air/fuel set up for dellorto carb.
  23. I have recently bought, what I am led to believe, a scorpa easy 250 1996 in black and yellow. It sounds like it is misfiring, and a little short on grunt, the same sound at high revs as a limiter.... It has the rotax engine, and a new dellorto carb, the engine is supposed to have been rebuilt about 3 mths ago. Do scorpas of this era sound like this or should I be looking for a fault, perhaps advance or retard ignition timing.... I am also a little confused as the number on the frame last digit - x which if forums are to be believed is a 99 model, but 99s were not black and yellow, or were they? Please help.....
