November 18, 20169 yr Personally I'd avoid it as you can find a nicer unmolested one easy enough. Removing the bottom rails is normally done to fit an air cooled mono engine as the flywheel side is deeper. Funny why this still having it's original engine. A head steady and a heavy duty sump plate is essential to prevent flexing.

November 18, 20169 yr Plenty of bikes of that era have no bottom frame tubes, Armstrong s and SWM amongst them, cause they were designed that way. I have removed bottom frame from Bantams with no problems
November 18, 20169 yr As do the Fantic mono's but they have a very, very strong sump-guard and a cylinder head stay to provide rigidity. The 240 in those photos has neither.

And with all the shared wisdom around here, I am starting to get the feeling there are better bikes out there just waiting for me. Plus, I still have my Can-Am 240! November 18, 20169 yr Unfortunately 240 frames aren't the strongest and if ridden hard can suffer from cracking around the head stock area combined with the steering geometry splaying resulting in slower steering and a longer wheel base. A good used frame can be bought for around £150 so if the sellers price was right it could still be a good project for someone.

November 19, 20169 yr Does the number make any sense? DGM 50453OM Was told it's off the frame... It is the pressed factory part number, it will also have FANTIC 450 and the circular FM logo above it. The actual individual seven digit frame number is stamped next to it with a star at each end.
