Hi, I have just collected a ty250 twinshock and have a couple of questions, hope someone can help. The frame and engine number begin 493-2, am I correct in thinking it's a 76? It has did japan wheels too. The frame is blue and the tank and exhaust cover white with blue decals on the tank, is this a standard frame colour as I have never seen one before? Also the undercoat looks yellow so maybe it's supposed to be yellow but it does look like a factory kind of blue paint job? Can anyone help on this? It's a uk bike as far as I know! Future plans are to fix up to trial then restore when time permits. Cheers

I have rebuilt my sons TY80 after the output shaft sheared. New shaft fitted and on with rebuild. I have 1 thing am not 100% sure on . Does the selector drum have to be in a certain position before putting the rest of build together ?? i presume it should be in neutral as i stripped it in neutral if correct but am not sure . please see last to pictures with different positions any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Aidan

I have a couple of TY 250 ( 2A and 1B ) and I am pretty sure that I could do better with the air intake. I run Mikuni round slide ( std VM 26mm ) with the exhaust is clean on my rider and a KT250 motocross silencer will be install on my project. I finaly found the correct jetting on the Mikuni VM, now low end and midrange torque are a lot better than with the small 26mm Mkuni of the B model and the poor KT carb from the A model, and throttle response is quick and predictable. But, I think that the air flow is not as good as it could be, so I am thinking changing the standard air filter system. Availability is not so great in Quebec and I don't want to order 265 thousand …

Hi, Can anybody tell me if the shock length is the same for the standard TY80 and the Big Wheel Whitehawk 80? It's got non standard shocks at moment and looking to replace them. Another question, does anybody run a 21" front wheel on theirs? It's had a 18" rear fitted but still got the 20" front usual tyre issues! Thanks.

Hi Been stripping the paint of a recently aquired TY250 (59N) and found the number 75 stamped in the top frame tube about an inch back from the headstock. Really small numbers and obviously from the factory as they were not visible until I removed the paint. Anyone got any idea what they signify. Cheers Tim

Is anyone using the DEP rear muffler for the TY175? If so 2 questions: 1) Is it fairly quiet? 2) Does it have a recess for an O-ring where the pipe pushes into the standard TY mid-box to ensure a good seal? (like the standard TY175 rear muffler has) cheers

Does anyone have a contact at Betor Shocks? A little more than a year ago I bought a pair of Betor shocks for my TY80. When the shocks arrived I had the wheels apart and was getting the rims chromed and installing new spokes. The wheels were completed, new tires installed and shocks installed in August 2010 and the bike was ridden about 20 minutes. The seal in one shock started leaking and there is a green piece of rubber sticking out from inside the seal. I returned the shock to Matt at Speed and Sport where I bought the shocks and he has been trying since October of 2010 to have his distributor replace the shock. At the time they sold me the shocks Speed and Sport…

Hi, Do you have any opinion regarding available friction plates for TYR clutch, any brand to prefer or to avoid? Ref to the manual thickness 2.9-3.1mm is ok. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did replace the springs some years ago but will test EBC harder, all or just 3 and evaluate pro/con handling/performance. Have removed worn marks on the basket as well... Last week some long muddy sections required full thottle 2 gear speed from standing still... The improved throttle responce/engine performance now move the focus on clutch/grip performance 2-> gear. …

The big question! I am working on a TY frame and motor project that up to now was very clear. I have 3 A ( 434 ) motors one is in my std riding bike and I would prepare another one for my project, complete overall including a little porting, head reshaping, squish calculated, timing and flyweel weight removal. But yesterday I was offered a B ( 493-1... ) complete Ty. Now you know my question. I rode C and D model so long ago that I cant tell the difference between them. I'm not looking to start an argument over witch one is the best, but I would like your input on both model A and B. This motor will go in a D modified frame. Soooo... what do you think?
