I just finished the gear shifter mod which I purchased from TYtrials: http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_215437-1617-19-Shifter-Repair-Kit-TY125-TY175.html But now it is very stiff and difficult to shift and more worrisome is that it will not shift up past first gear. I can select neutral and first only. I followed kit's instructions and changed nothing else relating to this. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks

I've recently bought a TY175 that has what I believe to be an (early) Majesty frame, with the frame modifications (upper shock mountings, lower frame/bash plate) found on these. It's been yellow, overpainted silver, so I'm sure that I'll be able to get at enough of the original (?) yellow paint to get a colour match done at a paint specialist. If I do, I'll post the results here. Meanwhile, does anybody know what shade of yellow was used? I've already posted that Paul Cowley, of Shedworks, uses RAL1003, Signal Yellow, for the yellow replica components he makes. And does anyone know who did the original paint finish on the Majesty frames? Thanks. John

Hi Guys I've just picked up my new (very old) twin shock Ty175 to join my FZR400RR 3TJ & RD350LC. I intend to use the TY for light fun use off road with my pal on his fantic 305. Any advice on where I can read up more on the TY175 or what manuals are available will be greatly received. I've no manual for the bike and have found that info appears rather scarce for these bikes - which suprises me very much. To be honest I don't even know how old my bike is (it's not road registered). I've paid

Where do i start!? It runs and rides. 1. The previous owner has the throttle cable going into the case but mixes fuel. I was told replace rhe whole control with a domino and run the cable directly to the carb. What cable do i buy? 2. What ratio and premix type? I run motule 800 80:1 on my modern bikes. 3. What fluid do i put in the transmission? 4. Forks seals leak. Should i order oem stuff or is there a better alternative? 5. Bearings! Do i use oem or is there better? 6. Sprockets and chain. Where do i get these? These are my "initial" questions. I plan to use thia bike for sime vintage competitions. I would like to m…

My son bought an old TY80 and needed to replace the fork seals. The bike is somewhere between a 1976 and 1982 model. To cut a long story short the fork seals are ancient and pretty much stuck in the forks. During our trying to get them out the top of the seal has come away and try as we might we cant get the bottom part of the seal out. My plan is now to take the forks completely apart in order to release the damaged seal. Do I need a fork damper tool and if so is there a specific one for this bike? If not, how do I take the forks apart. I saw there was a posting back in 2007 but it seemed untried on a TY80 and I dont want to cause any damage. Any help would be greatfully…

Dear All, A bit of a request for help here. I have just purchased a standard TY250E (493-300925) and am in the process of a complete strip and rebuild of the whole bike. All went well with the strip of the engine with just one item 'missing' and there is a contradiction between the repair manual I have and the on-line parts fiche I have looked at. So here's the problem: In the workshop manual it says to install a shim on to the primary drive side of the crank before installing it into the crankcase half (So the shim fits between the crank flywheel and the main bearing inner race). But when I look at the parts fiche it shows the shim fitted on the outside of the ma…

I'm trying to sort through a spark problem on the 84 TY 250 mono.... 1] Had the bike 4 weeks now, two rides on it, and a bunch of time working on wheels, carb, etc. When I got it, it started on the 3rd or 4th kick. It ain't like that now. 2] Noticed it's getting harder and harder to start, each time I try to.....needs more kicks. Had a plug fouling [ over rich gas ] problem which didn't help. Eventually it needed a new plug just to start it when cold, a lightly used plug would not spark. 3] Went for a ride today, as usual, was a bugger to start. With a brand new plug it ran however. Then I tried crossing a river that looked 1.5 ft deep [ was last week ] ......wrong, i…

In my quest to improve my majesty, I am looking to change the kickstart, I would like to add a new, lighter lever and dispense with the rather large heavy original. I have tried an alloy Ty mono kickstart welded to the original bottom piece, this has asthetically worked but its rather long and tricky to use . Has anybody done this mod with example a shorter kickstart lever from a modern trials bike, if so would they be willing to share which this is. Thanks very much

You certainly have to be careful buying bikes on E-bay.If the special Fantic wasn't enough, this guy's trying to sell a TYZ with no airbox or cooling fan. He explains "that it has the usual Yam rattles, yes even watercooled ones rattle". Well what a surprise! See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-ty250-ty-250-...1QQcmdZViewItem So I thought I'd ask where they were. This is his reply: "Hi there,as the photo clearly shows there is an open filter i didnt bother mentioning it.I didnt even know it should have a cooling fan." So I explained politely that it most definately should have an airbox and cooling fan and he replied with this: "Individual filters which do not …
