  2. I recently acquired (and tonight, got running!) an 84 TY250 mono from Canada, but I'm in the states. It was brought over for use at someone's camp, and has clearly seen better days. But: it seems to have good compression, is mechanically in decent shape, and looks like crap. I've got some exhaust leaks to sort out, and it seems the muffler is full of muddy old oil. Is there a way to clean it out? Take it off, flush with gas and let air dry for a few days maybe? I'm not sure, and not willing to try that yet. I didn't see any convenient cleanout plates. Maybe an aftermarket replacement for the whole assembly? Mine's dented, and brazed, and epoxied, and in generally…

I have a 44(H) 1984 TY250(L) and I am going through some confusion with spark plugs and resistor caps. The manual says (yes I have the original manual) use Champion N5G - most cross references map this to NGK B6EV. However on http://www.yamahaty.com/english/bougiesen.html he maps the Champion N5G to B6EVX (high performance - no resistor). Any mono owners out there - what plug do you run? The previous owner was running BR6ES with a plug cap that has a resistor in it as well. Does the resistor really make a difference? The only thing it does is reduce noise - does it interfere with the CDI? thanks

Hello, I'm riding an '85 TY 250, and it seems to suffer from pinging quite a lot, as well as pre-ignition. The current spark plug is an NGK B8ES, and I'm unsure whether a colder or hotter plug will remedy this, or if there's more involved. Is this fault common to this particular model? The bike is in good condition, originally being registered on the road, with 600 km. on the odometer. Thanks, Jason.

Today I finally got both TY250s working and was chuffed to buggery. But one wouldn't select any gears so I gave the lever a hefy push, and it sort of fell off. The shaft snapped leaving about an inch sticking out. First thought was to get it welded back on, but there is aforementioned oli seal about an inch away. Is welding a possibility ? Anyway, I got the engine on the bench now and merrily started stripping it down. Got head and barrels off before me belly told me it was food time. I haven't done any engine work reallly, since my racing days in the 80s I noticed that the casings split vertically, not horizontally like my old LCs and YPVS Yamahas. Do these engines…

I am thinking of buying a 1986 Yamaha TY 350s. I had three of them in the eighties and loved them. I talked to my local Yamaha dealer and he indicated that he could no longer get many parts for the motorcycle, including the parts required to perform a top end and clutch. I was wondering if parts for this motorcycle are still available? I live in the USA. Thanks, Eric

hello, just bought a second hand Yamaha TYZ250 (1998 version) and after having a 'play' for a couple of hours yesterday I have noticed some things... being my first trials bike I am not sure if this is 'normal' Firstly, from cold the clutch doesn't work fully disengaging (sp?) the drive, and so the bike 'creeps'. This only happens for a few hundred meters maybe, until things have warmed up. It then behaves faultlesslty (AFAIK). Is this normal? Would an oil change help things? (I haven't done anything to it yet because I only just bought it sat and was dying for a play on it ) Also I noticed the cooling fan came on quite quickly, is extended use OK? - I am fright…

I am just about to go ahead with upping capacity of my 175 majesty to 200cc (199 cc with a 250 + 0.75 piston) only thing I need sorting now is the process of bushing the piston to accept the smaller gudgeon pin from the 175, anyone done this or know just how to go about it, I have lathe and reamers etc so making a bush is no problem, just wondered how the bush is fixed in the piston, any comments help appreciated.

Hello Again. I've already asked about the Rayer kit. Now has anybody used the 200 kit upgrade? From Trail and Trial? From a standard 125 how much tinkering would be needed to make this upgrade run smooth? Cheers Squid.

Hello Has anyone put a 24mm Flat Slide carb on a TY175? I'm thinking about putting one on but is it worth it? I've already done most of the mods you can do to a Stock Ty motor. Ie.. 200cc big bore kit and porting to the jug and Head. SM exhaust and a shorter head pipe. Alum. air box for better air flow. Better reeds and reed spacer plate. Some of the weight removed from flywheel. Don't get me wrong the motor runs great. And pulls like a freight train. I would just like it to pick up the revs a little faster. Thanks and here is a Picture of the bike

I have a B model 250 with the original Mikuni that I've been trying to setup for a few years. The motor as a .005 inch head gasket, is on 3rd os, the exhaust port is '' lifted'' .020 inch, the rest of the ports are not modified, not really polish but clean. There is no modified reed valve. I run Shell super gaz with a good oil at 50:1. I fitted a Uni Filter and the motor is equipped with a Wes exhaust. I played with the timing without any real improvement.I have been fiddling with the needle eight, low speed and main jet, air screw etc. but the motor is always running hot at close throttle to 1/4 open . I fitted a VM 26mm played with it all of one summer and went back to …

sorry chaps but i want to try and save the original footrest mounts is there any oversized footpegs ie HEBO that will fit straight on to the above! without cutting/grinding/or welding anything? also orderd a alloy miller tailpipe for my yamaha framed 250 this had to have an 1"1/2 cut of the end and a 4" alloy bracket made up to bolt it on? but sounds and looks great! tried the 10/41 final gearing and its spot on the bike picks up and feels right now! ill proberly go for 11/45 just to save less stress on the front sprocket or wouldn't this make a lot of difference? also has anyone tried the uprated fork springs that b+j racing (usa) sell? cheers Nick.

I've got a downloaded genuine 350 workshop manual. Once it gets to gearbox internals, splitting c/cases and c/shaft work etc, it says "take it to your local dealer". I have 3 spare 250 mono engines and fancied rebuilding one from scratch as a spare. 1. I presume all workshop manuals available are the same and don't describe the above in detail? 2. Has anybody pulled apart an engine and can give me any pointers, pitfalls and what to expect, particularly; # g/box cluster assembled in which side case? # crank can come apart using a normal 15T hydraulic press? # Big end presses out from which crank side? # Any other things to look out for? …
