Twinshock

This is my first post so hello and apologies if this is a much repeated question. I've done some searching on the forum but thought I'd ask directly: I would like opinions please as to what would be the best 70's twinshock bike to run from a spares availability point of view. I'm guessing it'd be TY 175 / 250 but I'd consider Italian or Spanish too if I can get bits. For peace of mind I would like to know that I can get most engine parts and if not able to get O/E, at least find a cross reference for bearings and other cycle parts. I owned a few twinshocks in the 80's and having just come back to trials I can't resist the look / nostalgia of the twinshock era bikes. …

i decided to try to get the dents out of my beamish tank tonite. my mate came over, we blocked up th petrol tap hole, fitted the air hose to the petrol cap breather, then i went to make a cuppa. when i got back, my mate is standing there with a sheepish look, and what looks like a yellow football. he just let rip with the compressor tap and promptly heard a loud DINK!! noise. luckaly the pipe blew off the petrol cap, so it didnt explode. so if anyone know of a beamish tank, please let me know. cheers Ben ps i'll try and sort some pictures

Ive just got hold of a tr80 250. Can anybody help with a manual for this. The bike needs quite a bit of work so any advice for this model would be realy usefull. Also the casing is broken by the sproket, can it be repaired or does anybody have one? Thanks Gary.

Hi all out there,just wondered if anybody knows any info on dating my honda seeley tl200.It is a bit of a mystery what year it is ,and what exactly is the model,i assume it is a tl200,as engine says RS200,and it looks like an early frame.But frame no is in the 1100 area,ie sht1100,so if anybody knows of a web site or book that can help i would be very grateful,keep ridin,revandgo. :

Right the next question! out of my three bikes which would be best suited to road based trials such as sammy miller rounds or LDT'S Etc! kawasaki kt250 (1976) inbetween wheelbase , good seat, poss more comfy on road compared to others yamaha 250 majesty (1980) vibey, short wheelbase! tank range ok without any doubt the best of the rest! suzuki beamish 250 (1979) crap seat! smooth engine! longish wheelbase! nice bike to ride! quite competitive! the reason im posting this is because im thinking of selling the kt250 as its mint so i'd possibly get the best price for it plus its (never yet tried it offroad yet) never really been in the running as a pukka tr…

Hello. I am thinking of buying a twin shock and I appreciate these old things, even ones that look mint, can be a bit of an unknown quantity and take some sorting. What I want to avoid is buying something I can't get bits for, especially engine parts at realistic prices. At the minute I would like a Bultaco or an Ossa or maybe even a Fantic or Montesa. Something probably mid seventies very early eighties. What should I avoid? Any suggestions/guidance or help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Scragg

I have just purchased a 1978 Montesa 348, can any one point me in the direction of a specialise who can do work on such bikes? Looking at manly engine/gearbox including full rebuilds, Kind Regards John

The Motoplat red Coil of Montesa 348 is mounted with two small screws to the frame. Have the screws get a contact to the frame? I mean have I to scrape the new paint off under the head or washer of the mounting screws?

i have been given a hiro350t trials byke but there are a few parts missing lke the manifold but am geting that made. i am also missing both the headstock bearings and wondering if anyone knows the size or even the bearing number

Almost done its taken ages due to things out of my control, just waiting for a rear silencer to finish it, dont know whether to keep it or sell it would be a shame to get it dirty after all the work thats been done.

Hi and seasons greetings to all. Does anyone have any opinions as to whether Pirelli trials tyres are any good? I've recently bought a Ts with what look like new tyres on it, MT13 rear and MT43 front. I useually use IRC and the Pirelli's do feel a harder compound. Any thoughts? Cheers

Kim Nelson sent me a couple of photos he took at the Kansas City, MO national, probably about 1976. He says the KT250 shown was ridden by Steve Darrow, who I think is from the SF Bay Area though I didn't find him listed in the current PITS roster. The noticeable changes are no frame tubes under the engine, Miller muffler, and a KX250 clutch cover. The headpipe looks to be stock length, and not a long one like I built for my bike. The photos were rather faded so I did what I could to enhance them, but I'm far from being a Photoshop expert. Thanks Kim! cheers, Michael

Hi Just bought a Cota 200, because I had two in the 80's And a few questions.. How can I tell if its a Montesa Honda? The Frame number starts MH and the front brake hub looks different to what I remember. It's got no spark at the moment, I think its because the wrong coil is fitted, a Fesma coil is fitted and all I get when holding the HT lead is a tickle of a shock. And to refresh my memory of points and things, the only wire used is the black from the coil on the stator which goes to the points, condenser and then to the HT coil, all other wires are just taped up behind the stator. The resistance of the coil on the stator is about 1.6 ohms, is this about right? …

HI, I've just restored a Montesa cota 349 (White wonder model). Now I know they weren't the best handling bike but the MH349 was much better. Does any one know if the steering head angle was changed on the MH or was it just down to the banana swingarm? I know the MH had welded stuts on the frame as apposed to bolt on ones but I can't see why this would make any difference unless the engine had been moved to a different position. Thanks in advance.
