Twinshock

  1. Started by dirtrider,

If you were offered a couple of cheap montesa's locally, one a 247 the other a 349, which one would you buy? Both similar price and condition ie reasonable but not mint. I've never owned a Montesa and I just fancy trying a few twinshock events on one. Any opinions on which one to go for or should I just forget it? I'm not short of bikes to ride but you know how it is!

Anyone got any old trials videos from late '70s to early '80's that they would like to make a copy of? (VHS or DVD) Probably a bit thin on the ground, i only have 1982 British world round, great haircuts back then!

  3. TY175 Went into Acklams @ Harrogate (Beta & Yamaha) to pick up some New Yam parts that I'd ordered. I'd requested a brake lever arm for the rear wheel back plate (a 434 TY250 or TY175 part) The original item from 20 years ago was a heavy cast steel item, that corroded etc and weighed a proverbial ton in comparison to today's item. For the 21st Century Yamaha have produced an identically shaped offset rear brake lever in guess.........Cast ALUMINIUM. Beautifully crafted and shaped, plus in comparison to the crappy steel item.......it's a light as a feather. Why......... oh why didn't they make items like this in the heyday of Twinshock TY's.............if more …

Yesterday I found this 10M survivor in Vancouver, BC. The little rascall is 99.5% complete and all original. The only thing I can find missing is the tail light lense. I couldn't wait to fiddle (fettle) with it today, so I drained the old gas, put new gas in, took the carb off and apart, cleaned it, and guess what? It runs! The lights and horn work too! All the chrome needs to be redone, but miraculously the fenders and all the rubber is excellent including the original Pirellis.

I have a bike fitted with a 110mm conical Grimeca hub which is very similar to those fitted to a Fantic. It differs in the following ways; the strengthening hubs internally are much larger, there are small strengthening ribs visible on the outside of the hub, the distance between the spoke sets left and right is narrower resulting in a narrower hub. It was originally white. Fantic sprocket and back plate fit. The bike was constructed in about 1983 or 1984. Does anyone have one for sale or know of a model it was fitted to.

Taking my ty175 for an MOT Wednsday, it's been a while, but from what I can recall you need: Chain Guard Cont Sounding Horn And a Speedo Right??? Now I've got no Speedo so I've gone off and bought a cycle speedo, a wireless type, looks quite good and it works........ but will it be enough to pass?? Has anybody else 'got away' with a cycle speedo? Cheers

One has appeared on ebay for a 175/200. What was it? Fits between carb and reedvalve and connects via pipe from the inlet rubber. Is it a gimmick.................don't remember any trials bikes with 'boost bottles'............although Yamaha YZ & IT's of that era had this type of arrangement. Can anyone enlighten me ..................I'm sure Chris (Honda RS) will be able to help me out.

Hi All Attached is a photo of a front mudguard from a Jumbo SWM. They were a universal guard with 3 flat sides rather than a rounded section. They are not stamped with any logos and were used on several other bikes including Armstrong Monos, early air cooled GasGas and even the RTX. I have recently seen several bikes with white versions, but no-one seems to know what make they are or where they got them from. Has anyone any idea who manufactured these and if anybody is still selling them in any colour. I have checked and dont think they are Acerbis or Gonelli......any other ideas? Thanks Martin www.motoswm.com

Looking for some higher bars on my Majesty 175. Currently it has the 4.5" Domino's that I bought it with. They're too low for my 6'2" frame I want at least some new bars with 6" lift. Is it only Renthal that make 6" bars or does anybody else? Were bars higher than 6" in the 70/80's or is it my imagination? Can you get 'Vintage Bend'???

Does anyone have any good advice on fitting a tubeless 4.00x18 rim to a Sherpa rear hub, 36 hole?. eg where to get a suitable rim, could a Montesa type rim be fitted as the Sherco system doesn't seem to hold air for any length of time when used hard, any pitfalls to be aware of?. Thanks. PS I've just found an earlier post on this subject with good info from Nigel Dabster. What type of Yamaha hub do you mean Nigel, it must presumably be a 32 hole setup for the Sherco rim?.

Need information on 38 mm dia forks. The diagramatic assembly of the damper. Have stripped mine and want to check everything is ok. Need to remove old fork seals without damaging the legs. Can anyone help with copies out of manual etc.

OK---it's been a while, so bear with me... I've noticed that the brake stays on this Montesa are solidly fastened to the bike on one end, and to the backing plate on the other. I assume that precautions should be taken to be sure that the backing plate is aligned with the drum, but would it help to allow the backing plate to float a little so the shoes will be able to square themselves to the drum? I have also noticed that the front stay is made of particularly soft stuff; maybe it has enough flex to allow the shoes to center.

A bit of advice or your views needed I have a 1982 Godden framed Majesty 175, which I fancy riding in a Twinshock classes at club Trials and maybe progressing further if I like it or my results are good enough. The bike is mechanically very sound and everything works fine, with all maintenance up to date with everything replaced as necessary. I've never trialled it, just ridden a few times at a practice ground. Cosmetically it's pretty good also with all the correct Majesty modifications and parts, the wheels were already respoked and fitted with new rims, plus IRC tubed tyres. It has a SM chromed front pipe (which some say produces more torque.......does it?) and new F…

Any good mods you folks know of for this bike? Engine (porting)? Carburetion (use the Amal for a papreweight?) Swingarm length? Neck angle? BRAKES? Fork valving? Footpeg position?

  18. Started by charliechitlins,

My swingarm looks bent in where the axle goes through, and the axle was showing quite a few threads outside of the nut after it's tightened down. The right side plate where the axle goes through is definitle at an angle to the tubular part. I'm wondering if I have the correct spacers. Could anybody out there give me some measurements? Axle length? Swingarm width (at axle)? Spacer width?

Just wondering if there are any good Ossa websites out there. Thanks in advance. Gaff.
