Hi all I have just fitted an Electrex ignition system to my Greeves Scottish and discovered that it isn't possible to position the stator plate in the position that corresponds to the instructions - to time it to fire 10 degree BTDC, and I would have to drill new holes in the stator plate to achieve this setting. Has anyone else come across this problem ?. Incidentally, I can position the stator to 16 degrees BTDC (as per original system).

Some advice please as the instructions although simple are not clear. I'm fitting to a bare crank. The kit has a small spacer. Do I fit this behind the sleeve and rotor, touching the primary or under the crank nut. The choice will of course move the rotor outwards by about 5mm. Any assistance welcomed

Just ordered this and have one more question for any one that has used one. Is it as easy as it sounds? Put the rotor on, mount the stator in the middle of the slots (that sets it at 8 degrees BTDC) and adjust that as needed, wire it up and you're done?? Sounds to easy. Also after installing it do you just take the points, advance unit and the backing plate out then put the bolt back in? Thanks in advance! Thom

I am looking for some photos of an Elstar BSA, these were made in the mid 60's and were fitted with engines such as C15, Cub and Villiers. I am interested in the C15 version. Does anyone know of one in use?

Hi Im trying to locate and buy a Royal Enfield bullet 4 speed Albion gearbox as fitted to the works bikes. I think the gearbox is the same as they fitted in the early 50’s trials and road bikes, recognisable by the separate (higher up) gear change lever. The bike I have was probably made from a late 50’s road bullet and so is fitted with the later wide gearbox, and I find it unsuitable for trials. If anyone can advise me as to where I might find a gearbox and what I should expect to pay I will be very appreciative.

Hi, I need to fit an engine kill switch to a 1960 Greeves with 250 villiers engine. The switch I have is a standard Yamaha TY replacement, with one back wire and one black/white lined wire. Can anyone tell me how easy this is to fit, I understand that one wire should be attached to the coil and one to an earth, but to be honest I'm not at all good with electrics and stay well clear of them usually! Any help would be appreciated Thanks

I've been using a straight 40 oil from Morris for the engine, but it did take a long time to warm it up and get it moving round the engine given the very low temperatures at the weekend. Any advice on what I should change too given Jack Frost's appearance most mornings now. I have pre unit AMC lump...... Cheers

Can anyone tell me where I can get a 15 tooth engine sprocket for my B25T engine. I believe it would have the same spline size as for a B40 or 441 BSA. I believe most people use an 18 tooth sprocket (which I currently have) but I know that with a half link in the duplex chain a 15 tooth sprocket will fit without the chain being too loose. Although not as strong as a full link, does anyone know of any problem using half links? I have already reduced the gearbox sprocket as small as I can and even with a 60 tooth rear wheel sprocket the gearing is barely low enough, so since I can't lower the gearing within the gearbox I prefer to get a smaller engine rather than put a larg…

I heard a rumour that Murco petrol does not contain Ethanol so I emailed the company and received this reply on the 18th August 2011:- Steve, As a company Murco do not have Ethanol in any of their products at this moment in time, however some of our garages are supplied from non-Murco terminals so in this case the Ethanol content would be 5%. I hope this is of some use to you. Regards Chris Blake Commercial Marketing Manager Murco Petroleum Ltd. Westerleigh Terminal, Oakley Green, Westerleigh, Bristol. Since my little chance meeting with a post at the Hanbury scramble I have a fair bit of spare time on my hands at the weekend, and no, this does not mean spending quality time with the wife christmas shopping. Was thinking about putting a BSA unit into a Bultaco or Fantic frame, so has anyone got any tips or pointers as to the best direction to take? Does anyone have any photos of similar projects? I simply want a build a cheap (ish) bike and ride in local trials, so not worried at all about eligibility etc for the flag ship events. If anyone has done this before and I'm sure people have, what makes the best combination in terms of frame and engine? Thanks in advance…

Hi all, first post here so here goes.. What are the best donors for 'Fiddle' forks? I have some old long roadholders off an ES2, but have no knowledge of Marzocchis and Betors. What are the newest that are suitable for alteration , in fact, can you buy new anywhere? I'll probably ask mr Whitton to work his magic on them, just want to assemble as much kit and knowledge first Dave0304

Hi Can anyone advise on the level and grade of the oil for best performance on Betor forks taken from an early Sherpa. As they are in long Triumph bottoms, the quoted volume doesn't help. Should the oil cover the top of the damper rod on full extension? Trouble with this is that oil sprays out of the breather caps during events. The anti-splash pieces on the spring bottoms are in place. On full compression, the oil is about 4 inch from the top of the stanchion. Any ideas? What grade would be best for the UK climate? Cheers
