Superbikes

Superbike Talk

  1. Started by section swept,

It alway amazes me that when you see a collection of ‘superbikes’ parked up, the riders when they take their helmets off are ??? really quite old and probably drawing a pension or two. I have to include myself in the ‘quite old’ area but lucky enough to pass as younger so my other half says....bit too risky to argue! A bike dealer friend nodded in the direction of a Ducati 748 just pulling into the parking area of his dealership. Wait until he takes his helmet off my friend said. Man on Ducati stops, side stand gingerly down and he slides off bike standing all hunched the way you tend to in race leathers. This riders were yellow to match the bike (possibly even the colour…

... one of our riders, James Ford, has been at the Pre TT at the Billown circuit at the Isle of Man where he rode one of our Yamaha FZ600s to a brilliant 7th place against pukka Yamaha TZ race bikes in the Geoff Duke Race and a superb 5th place on the ex Ray Stringer MEDD Kawasaki 750 in the 4hire post classic senior race. Almost worth missing a trial for........

Although my main interest is trialling, I'm a bit involved in classic road racing. My wife runs Spencer Racing, running bikes mostly with the CRMC. Over the last few years our 1967 Suzuki 200 racer has won the CRMC Classic Ultralightweight Championship 8 times. This season we'll be putting around 15 bikes out on track, mainly in the Junior Production class with Yamaha 600's. We're fielding a couple of bikes in the Aircooled 500 class too, both with the CRMC and BHR. Also running a couple of Honda 125 racers with a new class with BHR. A bit more info' here... www.spencerracing.co.uk

Keep you eyes out for the XR 1200 single make series this year it should be good racing. A couple of big names have signed up allready. I bought a road going one just befor christmass and if its anything to go on the racers will be fantastic. There is something verry satisfiying about going up the inside of an R1 on a roundabout on a big twin, sat bolt up right pretending your not trying, depending how long the next straight is most of the time they come back past so you can do it again at the next twisty bit,Deep joy.

  13. BYRNE AVENGES FIRST RACE DISAPPOINTMENT WITH VICTORY NEXT TIME OUT Shane Byrne made amends for the bitter disappointment of a machine problem ruling him out of the opening race of the third round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship while leading as he comfortably took the victory next time out. That victory, his second of the campaign, ensured that the HM Plant Honda rider left the North Yorkshire circuit as the series leader, albeit by only three points over the former MotoGP rider John Hopkins who took second and third placings on his Suzuki. The opening race was delayed by rain, but the weather changed and the race was declared dry, leaving the rider…

  14. Jonathan Rea from the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team went all out for wins at his home race meeting and recorded two second place finishes which improved his points score in the championship and made his overall third place a little more secure. Starting from second place in each 18-lap race at this long 5.902km circuit, Rea led for the majority of each race, his only company the eventual winner of each leg, Cal Crutchlow. At the top of the championship Max Biaggi now leads race one podium finisher Leon Haslam by 373 points to 313, with Rea on 243, 39 points ahead of Carlos Checa with three rounds and six races remaining. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Max Neukirchner w…

A massive well done to Ian Hutchinson for winning five races at this years Isle of Man TT. Never been done before! Also, a huge well done to lady racer Jenny Tinmouth for setting the fastest ever lap of the 37.73 mile circuit by a female competitor with and average speed of 119.94 mph. Yes, that's an AVERAGE speed of 119.94 mph over 37.73 miles!!! Pete

Just something you might like to check out, the Belfast Telegraph are running a poll to see who is the greatest sportsman Northern Ireland has ever had. Currently Joey Dunlop is leading the poll but it's a close thing between him and football legend George Best. Terrible news from Brands yesterday, a huge British talent and nice lad took his final corner in the World Supersport Race. Had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times and being passed like i was stood still at Mallory a few years ago, he'll be sorely missed by a huge amount of people. Thoughts are with his family and friends, vey sad day for the world of road racing.
