Hi guys, My girlfriend recently picked up a 1996 Beta Techno 250 and we're trying to get it sorted out. The wiring was quite the mess, but now I've got the fan working properly and the headlight is wired up again. Last thing to do is put a kill switch on the bike. I have the wiring diagram in the owner's manual and it looks the bike has never had a kill switch (don't see one in the diagram, anyways). I have a spare one kicking around (moose 2 wire - grounds to frame) that I'd like to wire up for the bike. Where should it connect into the wiring harness? On my Gassers they connect directly to the CDI box. Any ideas where it should get connected in on the Beta? Tha…

Greetings all. First post and first month on my first trials. Yay me. Anyway, bike is a 1996 Techno 250 (with 270? upgrade kit). My rear brakes have no braking power. I have the original caliper and rotor, but installed on the bike is an aluminum 4 pot Galfer and wave rotor. The fluid reservoir was dry and I found out why. The master cyl needed rebuilding. I ordered from Lewisport and the wrong size came in. Actually, it was the right size, but apparently someone had upgraded the M/C to a larger 13mm piston style. Adrian hooked me up with the right one. Anyway, got the brakes all connected and bled. On the bike stand, the rear wheel will stop great with the …

Hi all please help me I'm going round the bend here. Why does my clutch lever get more resistance the more times I pull it in till I just can't pull it in? Lay bike on its side taken cover off and if push in the centre the rod thingy goes back and lever becomes normal to operate, why is it sticking should there be a spring to push it back?

Hi, i have just aquired a 1997 200 to learn on and when the clutch lever is fully pulled in the bike is still moving, so much that you cant select neutral. when its cold it wont even idle. The oil that was put in at the last service was mtl 80wt oil (never heard of it) i have had a fiddle with the clutch adjustment but still nothing. i suppose this is good in one way because my heart truly lies with twinshocks (my monty clutch is a lever to hang hemlets off) and pre 65's but i am spending so much time on my restorations that if i use it as a leaner and bin it i will cry and it is a given i will come off. lots. many thanks all. have just read the beta 250 clutch fix h…

Hi, I just purchased a '97 Beta 250 Techno. I have been riding enduro for 30 years, but this is my first trials bike. I have lots of questions, especially about the bike. I'm in the US, East coast, Pennsylvania. I am having trouble finding support for these bikes here in the US. I am in need of parts and some advice. Hopefully someone here can help me out. The Techno I bought is in good shape and runs well except for a couple of things. First thing I noticed was that the engine will overheat after just a short ride. I noticed that the cylinder was hot, but that the radiator and waterpump housing were relatively cool. (Ambient temp is about 30 F, -1 C) So I ass…

Just joined the forum and glad to see there is lots of useful advice available. I have just bought a 1997 Beta Techno 250 as a non-runner and I thought it would be easy to fix but I was wrong. The guy I bought it from reckoned there was a fuel problem because it had a spark. The woodruff key had sheared and I was hoping a new one would solve the problem but no such luck. It will run for a few seconds then die. I have cleaned out the carb and made sure the jets are clear and put in fresh petrol. Also put in a new spark plug. I have read about all the stator problems with Betas but I don't think that is the problem. There is power generated for the fan and there i…

I am curious to know of the quality of a 97 250 techno. There is a very fresh looking techno for sale and i am considering making an offer of $1700. he is asking $2100. Are these good bikes or were the problematic with poor handling?

As it says in the title; I helped my son remove the handlebar lighting switch assembly and a vast amount of wiring on his recently aquired 1997 Beta Techno.(ex Ashley Newbry) We fitted a Sammy Miller Kill Switch which I have wired one wire to a red/white wire in the loom (as this appears to be the kill switch in the wiring diagram). The other wire, I took to earth. This seems to work o.k. but other topics on this forum say connect the kill switch to the black wire from the coil! The other problem I have is that the wiring diagram in the manual doesn't seem to correspond to the wire colours on the bike! I have wired the fan to a yellow wire comming out of the main co…

Hello Chaps, Hopefully somebody will be able to point me in the right direction as I'm confused.com with my problem. I've got a 1997 Techno which was rebuilt from the ground up less than 6 months ago by myself and fired up 2nd kick, was then put back in the workshop while other projects were worked on. It has been started on a regular basics and given a run out round the garden. Due to my eldest not racing his KTM for a while I thought this morning I would take her out for a play and now she won't start. Have done the normal things and checked the fuel, got a good strong spark, even the clutch is free. The only thing I've changed is the handlebars so I've tried to …

Hello! just bought a 97 (advertised as a 98 but had gold forks, dougie lampkin rep and says 1997 world champion on the side...) needs a few bits doing to it... what number wheel bearings does it need? (fronts and rears) what type of engine oil..? how do i remove the air filter, seems to have two thick rubber rings holding it down? radiator cap is below the fuel cap and it seems to be a bit loose, is it just bolted to the frame under the 'seat' plastic?? front brake is pretty awful so going to service that the clutch is pretty stiff too! is this standard on tehnos? it's not overly stiff just nowhere near as light as an 07 sherco i rode recently.. but i'm more used t…

New to me, beautiful restored bike. I need help checking the timing. TDC then counterclockwise until piston drops 3mm??? Stick something round through the fly wheel into the hole stator??? I believe it has all new rev3 ignition. It has an intermittent knock like detonation. I know it could be lots of things, but this is the easiest to check. Any better kick starters??? Its short and I need to get my girl to be able to kick it over. I have 50 years wrenching on everything. Thanks Jon

Hi, i bought a 98 Techno last week. It has pretty loud piston slap on start up and it doesn't get an awful lot quieter once its warm. Does anyone know of any remedies, apart from replacing all the parts?

Hi, I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before. I've had lots of bikes over many years and as a bit of nostalgia I recently bought a very nice Alp 250. So far I have just cleaned the carb and all else seems pretty good. Just wondering about a source for basic parts in the future. thanks!
