OSET Electric Trials Bikes

I had Paul Master replicate his build on my 20.0 and it rides like a dream now. I had bought a first generation 20.0 that was unrideable. I even got a new controller from OSET and it helped, but still was not any fun. Paul is known in our trials club as the EcoTrials guy because he made an electric trials bike from a Montesa a long, long time ago. Then he did it with a 20.0 about 2-3 years ago. He uses an Alltrax controller that can manage huge amounts of current (designed for a golf cart) and is programable, in tandem with a Magura throttle. The mapping is so tame and predictable off the bottom that I can perfectly control and balance on turns now, and it ramps up to…

I'm thinking of switching my son's oset 20 to a thumb throttle to avoid whiskey throttle. He's had one incident already and if it keeps happening and he gets hurt, he may not be so keen on riding, which would be terrible. He is familiar with a thumb throttle from his quad. But since no one does this, its probably a bad idea, but I don't understand why?

In the picture is my daughters 16.0 36v Oset and as you can see I need help. I have upgrated it with a lithium ion battery and a Kelly controller. After installing the Kelly controller the bike ran fine for about two months but then it suddenly stopped working. After some measuring I suspected the controller so I contacted Kelly and got some help from them to search for the fault. I finally got the advice to disconnect the relay and connect power directly to the controller. And with -36v to B- on the controller and +36v to B+ and pin9 on the controller (for powering the controller) the bike works (the key switch doeant work). I also disconnected the wire from the re…

Hey, I am looking to update my kid’s 12.5 Oset to the next (16) size. I hope this is an okay subforum to post this question. Anyway, I initially was looking for the Oset 16 bikes, but then I noticed there are some alternatives. Beta has their minitrail, Mecatechno has something. Maybe some more alternatives. My question is, how do they compare to each other? Here, where I live Oset is for sure the most popular, but a few hundred more expensive than Beta is (new), Mecatechno not sure is available locally. As far as I understand all still come with acid batteries, or are there any that are already with the LiPo available out of the store?

Purchased used OSET 16 36v from a dealer in pittsburgh that was virtually brand new, not a scratch on it. From the onset the batteries longevity and strength didn't seem juth ast right. Son has ridden bike (he's 6 and around 50 lbs with potentiometer fully open) probably 8-10 times. Longest ride until batteries ran out was just under an hour mostly tight trials stuff with a few wide open jaunts through the field. On to my problem, he rode bike last week and charged bike till green light and removed charger last week. Sat until yesterday when he went to ride, he turned on key and batteries were dead (one red dot on throttle). I just assumed he left key on so I went …

I've been told today by Nige at TrialsUK, that Horsforth Club will be running a separate E class course at their Youth national on 18th September at Home Farm, Bradford, (if there's enough interest). If you've got a son or daughter with an Oset and you don't live too far away, please try your best to support this event. Well done Nige.

The charging block for my Oset occasionally makes odd noises when plugged in, almost like there is something mechanical inside it grinding away. I'm pretty sure it's always done this, but not positive. Normal?

My son (13 years old) is Using the Oset 24 mostly for enduro. Bike's motor & controller are getting very warm, and go into limp mode. Can happen after 15 minutes of riding. Added a computer fan to cool the controller, but it's not very useful. Any suggestions? Motor is sizzling hot and so is the controller. Heat sink? Cold packs?

One of the best upgrades you can make to your Oset is to replaces the sealed lead-acid batteries with LiPos. A LiPo (lithium-ion polymer battery) is an evolution of lithium-ion batteries where the electrolyte is basically held in plastic rather than a solvent. LiPos allow you to shave a lot of weight and to reduce charge time dramatically. While the benefits are impressive, they do not come free. Lipos have significant risks and require a higher level of technical competence and attention than the stock batteries do. If you are not somewhat technical, willing to learn, and willing to put some extra attention into the care and maintenance of the bike then stop here and e…

Hello, I have recently got an oset 16 for my lad and it struggles with grip on the rear tyre. I was just wondering what is the biggest tyre anyone has managed to fit to it? I am currently looking at a 3.5 inch wide tyre but I am woried it will catch on the chain. Apologies if this subject has already been covered but I searched through the forum and couldnt find anything.

Hello All, My grandson is interested in motorcycles and turning three. His mom seems open to him riding trials (versus mx, etc). I am imagining that kids outgrow their Osets regularly so they come up reasonably often. Does anyone know of one available in the NE US? Thanks, Ward

Seems my lad was able to dislodge a motor magnet today. The motor is a 36V 900W version. Anyone seen anything like this before? Unfortunately he didn't mention the power change he felt until later and there wasn't any noise so we kept riding for about 10 minutes more. As the pic shows the motor became extremely hot. And amazingly, it still runs. I haven't disassembled the brush side yet. I am curious what the consensus is here. Can it be rebuilt (should it be?) or just replace it. At this moment it seems like a replace to me (I know nothing about electric motors) but I was curious if anyone has been here before. Looks pretty nasty to me. Thanks all for the …
