am i right in thinking that the standard throttle on a 4rt is slow action throttle? if so has anyone tried a fast one, and did it feel any different?

My 315 had a clutch that dragged so bad you had to push off and then click it in gear when it was cold/first started. Then after it warmed the it would drag badly unless you blipped the throttle every 3 seconds. Also hard to modulate. Tried the Silkolene oil, but not better. I finally bit the bullet and installed new standard friction disk which are a mix of cork and paper fibre. Also went to the recommended Elf oil. Just to make sure I bleed the hydraulics. Clutch works fine now. A little clunk as it goes in gear, but the bike does not move. Smooth progressive engagement. It now has about 3 hours since the rebuild and still works fine.

Last summer I was given two old montesa's, late 70's early 80's, not really sure what exact year, and was wondering if someone knows what oil's and capacities go in the gearbox and also in the forks? Brian Martinson

It's here!!! I just installed the exhaust and tested i outside the garage. I must say the exhaust and pipe are a really good fit and the welding is amazing. I'll post the photos in 2 post. <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> did a splendid job with the order and there will be more orders from Sweden NOTE: To say that the Mitani silencer is quiet is little wrong BUT it's far better than the original one. It has a mellow sound to it and not the high pitched sound of the original. When you rev the bike the Mitani silencer still has plenty of grunt but in a more pleasant way. I will post a video of me riding in a section as soon as all the s…

Hi, i've got a 315r 2002 and have a little bit of a prob with the carb, a Dellorto standard unit. When the bike has been stood for a week and it is started on choke, it revs crazy high. If you knock the choke off immediately and rev it for a short while its gets you over the problem. If you turn the motor off for say 3 hours and start it on choke, it fast idles like it should on choke, no problems (bike maybe still slightly warm). I took the choke lever with brass piston attached out to inspect and found nothing untoward down the bore. The next day the bike then started perfectly from cold on choke and i thought the fault had dissapeared at last. However after using the …

I know the clutch problems have been well discussed but can anyone answer the questions regarding oil type? I spoke to a 4rt '05 owner at a Wessex Centre trial last weekend and he swears that the REPSOL transmission oil is c**p and exacerbates the clutch drag and snatchyness problems. His bike is "on" the ELF stuff and after a ride round on it, there did appear a difference regarding drag. Having said that, he has also changed his gearing down so that may well be the reason for less of a snatchy & jerky take up. Ignoring the Mitani clutch and 315 master cylinder solutions, have many of you boffins changed the gearing? AND What is regarded as the most appropriate o…

  12. Practicing with Dennis Sweeten and Odus Lambert today, trying to get in shape for the ssdt, so riding that type of creek section all afternoon. I was riding my Sherco 4T, Odus on a stock 4rt, Dennis on a 4rt with a re mapped ignition, really soft for the type of section and terrain we were riding. I couldn't believe the difference between Dennis's bike and Odus's bike, Odus's bike would pull hard and you had to try keep up with it, Dennis's bike was so mellow and easy to ride, even Odus thought the same thing, the bike was twice as easy to ride in that type of section. I think the programmable ignition would be the number one item on my spares list if I owned a 4rt.

Hi, just bought a 99 montesa, and noticed that one of the fork seals is leaking. just wanting to know if they are hard to replace, and how much oil to put in each leg. I am mechanicaly minded but have never replaced fork seals before. p.s has anyone got a manual that i can buy? Cheers radlaty.

I am hoping that all you experienced 4rt guys can help me overcome a starting problem, as I'm new to this 4 stroke lark. The bike is an '06 model and had no more than about 30 hours use. The bike is fantastic and always starts no problem when cold and usually 2nd or 3rd prod when warm/hot. However, I have had the odd occassion when stalling or fiving in a section that it's then been a complete pig to start. The usual "long-prod" technique fails to bring it to life and I end up having to kick it 10 - 15 times. Its knackering and frustrating, esp. compared to the 315r as this obviously fired up as regular as clockwork and got me out of the section pronto. I haven't tamp…

Happy New year. I found some great clutch plates that won't cost you very much. I have had them for about a week and they are working great. The clutch has so little drag that it will stop the rear when on a center stand. I don't know how long this will last, but it is a good sign when a new clutch is installed. You can order the clutch plates from Rocky Mountain ATV and MC on line. Page 587 in their catalog. Part number T-19079 for a Honda CR 250 94-06. Here is the best part they are only 29.99 dollars and they work great. You will have to re-use your steel plates for the new one are a tad bit thicker. You can rough up your steel plates with some sand paper or forget a…

Has anyone raised their mudguard yet on the 4RT. Want to mine for the Hurran on Sunday, but I am worried it will catch on the exhaust when the forks compress. Its never been a problem on my other bikes, but the 4rt pipe gets a lot hotter. Also I take it you run a Jitsie air filter without the fire proof cage that you put the original in. As my new Jitsie filter does not fit in it. Thanks Dave
