I knew of the Ossa 250cc monocoque raced so successfully by Santiago Herrero but was unaware of this one,

Has anyone removed the two tubes from under the engine which get battered out of shape and replaced them with a alloy sump shield similar to the later model Bultaco's.
Is it a viable conversion or are there pitfalls?
-
The one non finisher in the Greeves team was due to one of the lads from Holland having a big off resulting in machine damage that could have been fixed but would I believe have excluded him from the trial.
Considering that Richard has no backers and is self funding the development of the bikes I think that what he has achieved is remarkable and regard it a pity that the press seem oblivious to his achievements, might that all change if the bikes went into production and advertising revenue was available?
Compare Richards efforts to the Jotogas which is funded by the Spanish government/Euro taxpayer (you me & a few others) and the technical work carried out by a top universty science & engineering dept.

Does anyone please know about what time the entry might arrive at Cheeks. I guess it will be included in the trial, it usually is.
-
There is one being ridden in the SSDT this week, or at least a trials model with the tank seat mudguard assembly as on the picture above.
-
There are three Greeves entered in the Scottish, saw them being prepared in the Parc Ferme today.
-
Thank you Andy for the route tip it worked perfectly, much easier with the straight through link.
-
Thank you Archie
Yes does anyone have any pics or maybe even better the lowdown on what made some of those bikes perform so well in the hands of a top rider.
-
Does anyone have a photo of the Aprilia please, also is it known how special it really was. I know the rider is the key to success but the special engineering that make a factory bike is intriguing.
-
Now which one to go to....choices and decisions....

At the Classic Bike Show at Stafford today a trials talk and riding demo was given by Mick Andrews, Yrjo Vesterinen and Sammy Miller, Mick riding his James, Yrjo 250 and 340 works Bultaco's. Lots of advise and recollections from the three of them made for an interesting show which got even better when the show's guest of honour and trials fan Giacomo Agostini appeared and rode as passenger in the Bultaco outfit belonging to Bert White.
Was he a good passenger Bert and will you have him in the chair at your next trial?
-
Good one Breagh, where are you marshalling at the SSDT?
-
I had forgotten the Aprilia's, I have always considered the red Lejeune HRC Honda to be quite something but for all I know it may have had many production parts in it though the engine seemed nothing like anything Honda sold.
-
I wonder which work's bike was/is the most radical/specialised/worked upon ever built.
Could it be the HRC Honda ridden by Eddie Lejuene, Dougie's 315R or 4RT, the 4RT of Antonio Bou, maybe Jordi Tarres Gas Gas or the one ridden by Adam Raga.
There must be loads more bikes that I have not even thought about, does anyone have an answer and do you know what went into the making of that bike?
-
Thank you Lassie, where abouts is the Caol Community Centre?
BJ we also went to the Bill Wilkinson talk, the following year it was Steve Saunders turn and he was also excellent, wonder who it will be this time?
-
Does anyone know if Alan Wright is hosting a talk at the SSDT 2012 please.
-
Whilst 13/46 sprockets were fitted when the bike was new things have changed, nowadays there are less and dependent on where you ride possibly no road based trials so the higher gearing could now be a disadvantage and reducing the front sprocket to 11 or 12 might be better.
-
Hi Greeves, I was told by someone close to the stand on which the Sprite? stood that engine apart the bike was totally newly made, mostly from titanium. It was said to have cost around
-
Alan Whitton can supply replica Cub hubs in polished alloy, anodised silver or anodised black, same for the brake plates. No idea if the brake liner goes into the hub before or after anodising though.
-
Hi Andy welcome to TC. A 1999 GasGas is a very good bike indeed, the 200 or 250 model might suit a beginner better than the 270/280 version but if it is in good condition, runs well & is well maintained then you will have a bike that is perfect for your needs. Pick the trials that best suit you & enjoy the sport.

He had the springs & damper parts on his stand at the Telford Show, give him a call if they are not on his website.

The forks fitted as std to the Yamaha TY175 are lightly sprung & underdamped, not too much of a problem if you are of light build. These two isues can be overcome by using spring & damper parts from Craig Mowlam http://www.yamaha-majesty.com/shop/index.php but in my experience fitting the forks from a TY250 T/S has a similar effect. There is no weight penalty, the yokes are identical but overbored slightly for the bigger diameter stanchions, the lower fork leg slider is also the very same as the TY175 but again bored out, same spindle, wheel, brake etc
The only difference is larger diameter stanchions, springs & dampers so minimal extra weight but a big advantage in fork action.

Strip & clean the carb, surrounding the main jet is an O ring that seals into the float chamber, it will become obvious which one I mean when you dismantle the carb.
Replace this O ring with one that is a good fit into the ring groove and the float chamber & the problem should be resolved.
O rings can be purchased from enginers merchants or agricultural suppliers.
The TY 175 is a great little bike, ours runs well on a 35 to 1 semi-synthetic petrol oil mix.

Good to know the duplex primary chains last & last, thank you for the replies.
