  1. You cant honestly tell me you think it is right someone should risk injury to get a clean ,its a trial not a initiation ceromony.the guy crashed because the section was dangerous, simple as that ,thats the peoblem...
  2. stopped going when you had to start paying to watch, wales round at myther i think,I agree with your statement about the top trial boys, but it would have been even nicer if it was joe bloggs and all his mates had the chance to ride aswel, I think exactly what we are talking about ,the privaleged few have the money or backing to ride everone else has to lump it
  3. Stopped going when you had to start paying....probably wales world round at merthyr.late eightys early ninetys
  4. Now that is a point,Imagine if the centres each had a permanent off road trials training area so everone could practice, and new comers could mingle and learn, the politicians allwasys tell us as a nation we are getting un fit but dont let you do anything about it, I know when the european champs started you could have works riders from different teams sharing a lift to a trial ,bikes in bits in the back of ordinary cars ,In my oppinion all adding to the fun, when people try to run sport as a buisness it goes tits up..
  5. If you can still hop when you are 45 you will be doing well ,most people cant,I could tab 25 miles with 120lbs on my back when i was 21, couldnt make the end of my road now.
  6. We did invent trials after all ,i dont think they have a problem at club level in europe, they just let the big boys get on with it and have there own massively popular traditional trials with lunch stop and all.
  7. But said same rider probably does use his elbows and feet aswel, No one is saying its not a skill they are saying its not trials ,its power pogo stick ,good but not trials..
  8. I also remember the old sections a nationals, some big steps where still included but it was not dangerous, all the next riders mates would be heckeling as he started the sectiod and a big cheer would go up if he cleaned it ,or an even bigger cheer if he got a 5, after a big off the chap would pull his bike out of the mud and carry on ,not go to hospital, No one is denying the hotties have massive skill ,but there has to be a place for it (indoor trials for the tricks, they have a world champs allready) out doors for a more traditional days sport. Again a lot of the reason for more difficult sections was bike developement, again driven by the manufactures, this years must have ..my father had his trials bike for nearly ten years and it was still competitve. Imagine this ,a trials bike with a fuel tank (no problems at the scottish, and a seat)????? Thats going a bit far i know but it was and still could be a massive sport...
  9. Graham i uderstand a lot of the younger riders think the old rules must be bad just because they are old.. but it in a lot of the older riders opinion was more fun, lots of lads say we need to progress as a sport and change rules style severity , but think of this have the rules of say darts or ten pin bowling changed because people got better at them ??????No why do we keep having to change things for progress ?? the factories wanted there boys to win at all costs and bent the rules to compensate,I am sure trials will benifit from standardisation ,
  10. Atom like your idea and it would be nice to watch, but why is everone obsessed with making events PAY and drawing huge crowds ,money again its not a buisness its a sport ,when people want to make a sport pay its game over for the ordinary guy...
  11. Actually again and again it has made people start riding again FACT NOT FICTION. If a rider wants to ride indoor style trials or arena trials thats fine ,but why ruin propper trials ????? the point is if you make a section to tight to ride on full lock you have to bounce why punish the VAST majority who cant hop....
  12. Had to be one didnt there.
  13. So honestly andy do you think as a new rider stopping in a section deserves as good a mark as the next lad who reads the terrain lines his bike up and cleans the section in one flowing ride????? I have allways felt the skill in getting it right first time is the essance of trials ,and i am not having a go at you, just wondering ..Welcome to the wonderfull sport, keep riding whatever us old gits say
  14. Lads have already given up thats why we are having this discussion,NO one rides championships ,world or british. It is frustrating when as mentioned someone walks there bike up down sideways and back and still gets a three, its not trials
  15. Also heard some trials have wine stops between sections small glass for clubman big glass for experts, could catch on , Now that would even it out.
  16. I tell you what would make a good twinshocker,Take the water pump off a 4RT fill the water jacket with oil and weld some fins on it put an oil cooler on the down tube connected to the old water in and out ,leave on the fuel injection bolt it in a fancy rs replica chassis with tubeless rear and bingo classic twinshock
  17. The machine should be the limiting factor but you know aswel as I that some peoples trail bike is a trials bike with lights and anothers is a 1200 gs bmw not the same leauge, but if you want riders set it out for the majority, if you had 50 people on 50 marks that was spot on ,What we are talking about is even at club level now the winner will be on 20/30 and second place 50 third 100 ,and mister average goes home half dead with a smashed up bike. What makes it worse is having done some classic and twinshock rounds you remember why you rode in the first place FUN,nice rideable sections and everone having a good time .
  18. Well leave it as it is then with * riders in a world champs Duh wake up and smell the coffee ,If you had 20 riders on clean then they would all enter the cahmps and be in with a chance if every center had ten entrants in the british championships it would actually be a championship. Bums on seats ,,
  19. They just want riders to enter, how can it be classed as a world championship with eight contestants. Its like your american world championships ,East coast world champs and West coast world champs ?????????????????????????????????????????
  20. Now this might make a few people think, Just a suggestion though. With the hopefully all encompassing return to no stop wouldnt it be nice if all the classes and routs went sensible aswel, we could have trials with one rout everone in together ,like the good old days, with maybe one or two hard sections per lap for the hot dogs and the rest all rideable . Imagine a trial where you actually new how well you rode ,you could map you progress and the observers would have it a bit easyer aswel. If the trial was set out as an expert trial ,let both of them have a ride without joe average paying good money for them to do so ,I know some of you will say we would not get anyone good enough to ride the championships , but they dont ride them now. Bring back big trials with no queues, when i was a boy (130 years ago) you regularly had 100/200 riders with road work and no queues , well none like you get now because the sections did not require you to take 5 mins to lighn up on a slab or climb .
  21. Some people need to win at all cost,And as stated it is good riders turning to twinshock who are being pushed off thair pertch in moder stuff by the bouncing trick kids, The go out and spend a fortune trying to make there bike run like a gas gas pro. I found the exitement of teh exitment of twinshock by mistake after a serious road bike crash,But i for one am stopping using my trial winning fantic and riding a triumph 500 twin ,with no hope of an award because it is fun and i dont feel like i cheated. Just remember if you keep the sections easy enough for the big bikes and not stiffen them up for the pot hunters they will get bored and not bother spending 4 grand on a CHEAT bike.
  22. No one else cares they have all given up. This has to be the way to go ,everytime it happens you get a whole load of new people riding then it get harder and harder and everone gives up again, Clubs need to set trials out for the majority not the minority. After all it is supposed to be fun
  23. dont want to seem stupid but two to three hours are you sure its not running out of fuel????
