    250 Mono Piston

Fantnik : Thank's I will check Wiseco although I'm not there biggest fan and also give Mitaka a look Tony : Yes the piston pin is set close to 2 mm lower on the Mono ( probably because of the 68 mm stroke vs the IT YZ TY ts stroke is 64mm ) and the skirt of the piston is also longer on the Mono. So if someone have done the mod they had to mofify the cylinder base and the also machine the head . 2stroke4stroke : Yes I'm looking for a barrel or a complete bike for parts, but here in Québec ( Canada ) they are few, and I looked all over the net to find a piston ring set. Hopefully I will find the parts or the correct modification to do because as you can understand I can't make mistake. Guy

    250 Mono Piston

The bad news came this morning, I need a 3rd OS piston ( and ring ) for my 250 Mono. I didn't find one and I am told an IT ( or YZ ) or a TS piston would fit with modif made to the cylinder and head. Quite a few post are scratching the subject, but if someone as done the job with good result I would apreciate the details. Of course my first choise would be a 3rd os TY but ... I also will change the rod , but replacement is avalable. There are 2 different type of IT piston, the one with the '' arche '' is suppose to be beter but wear faster. I don't realy use the last bit of power of the bike since I am an average rider. So TS or IT and if IT, withc one choose? A couple of picure of IT VS std TY http://s1065.beta.ph...837536139540032 I should say that TS piston is not a problem to get . Guy
  3. Thank's, I'll pass those info to a friend who is looking for a way to change the handlebar mount or to move it back on is KT he is considering using RoxRiser to do the job , I don't know if it's a goo idea. Guy
  4. I'm not a specialist, but every time I can, I have a test ride on any trial bike, and my TY B and I have in mind a couple of A and D just work fine, not at par with a good SWM 350 but beter than any 250 that as not been cared for. Good clean well tune carb, CLEAN exhaust ( very important ) replace the head gasket by a thinner one ( .005 to .010 ) good piston and a sprocket combination that suit your riding style. Voila... a respectable TS. Yes you have to set up the suspension! As Andy wrote I took the flywhell weight off on my B but this winter I will put it back on ( maybe a little lighter than the one on 434 model ). But Dixie your not the first one with that impression, if you dig a bit you will find more than one thread asking your question and getiing more advise than I write in this reply. Guy
  5. That base is not like the one on my byke. and the front sprocket is sooooo small, but if you look closely this is realy a trick trial motorcycle. Guy
  6. On my 44H, it's clamed on the larger diameter of the tubes . If it's what you mean. Guy
  7. No the only thing to do is to lower the brackets that hold the filter box from over the frame to under the frame. ( Mick Andrews's advise ) Guy

    Ty 250 Twinshock

Does it pull from idle and than get's rough or is it rich right from idle, also check if the carb is clean, I bought the same carb and had the same problem to find a piece of plastic providing the choke to close correctly. Guy
  9. What do you want to do with the bike? Guy
  10. Big weekend of fun comming up, 4 days with Mick Andrews ( I hope the wheater will cooperate ) first thing I'll check when I come back is the size of the VM, I had both carb 5 feet apart this saterday and did'nt think of that. Guy
  11. I bought a 44 H TY mono a few weeks back, fixed the igniton and put it in the shed while I finish a TS project, this weeckend I made a few round behind the house to find it very VERY " SLUGGISH " so I took the carb off cleaned it put it back with no improvements. I'm sure the exhaust need's a good cleane up but still I think the carb need's fixing. I have " on the shelve " a new roung slide 26 mm Mikuni ( VM type ), is it a good idea to try it on ? Or am I loosing my time, I know I have to modify the flywheel. but I have to start somewhere. Guy
  12. Ok this is one of the first thread I read when I bought my TY. I can tell you the clear answer : Yes it is worth the trouble. Guy

    Majesty Frame.

I talked to a friend who is quite aware of mod made on 2 and 4 stroke back in the days, I wanted some advise on the front pipe on my mofified TY. I wanted to cut about 3/4 inch and reweld it. The first thing he told me is: your gonna loose bottom power, so I did not touch it. Is it possible one would gain low end torque by lengthened the it ? Guy
  14. Comming from you David, I can only think I did it right. Guy

    Ty250A Carb Swap ?

Exhaust? probably. Air filter ? Most likely Timming? I'd surely check, but your on a Yamaha, so you will have fun. Guy Ho Lord... I sound like I have a favorite prejudice.
  16. Yes on the bike on the left the frame was modified to increase ground clearence. That's why I have been asking so many question on modified TY frame. It's a lot of thinking, fitting but it's well worth the work. I have to thank everyone who gave me advise, some of them deserve double thank you. Guy
  17. I ride them both, but one will have to go since there is more birds in the nest. Guy http://s1065.photobucket.com/albums/u399/guy532/?action=view&current=DSC02052.jpg

    Boyesen Reeds

Make sure you have the right model, I order from R..Rider in the US to receve TY Mono reeds, I think if I want some Boyessen for a TY I will now order them from B&J in US. Guy
  20. Easy , simply to make sure the bike would get top money ???????? 40 odd year later. Guy

    Majesty Frame.

Nice work Jon, I work mine with the frane right-side-up but the general idea is the same witch reassure me as I have no reference exept pictures and a lot of help on this and other post. I still am a little confuse with the air filter, I will probably make one so fit properly Guy
