Hi all,
The old boy wants me to help him sell his Tiger Cub, or at least see what it's worth. I'll have a piccy or two soon, but since I know diddly squat about pre-65 trials bikes, I thought I'd post here. What are these things worth?, and where's the best place to try and sell it.
Here's the spec.
1962 Tiger Cub Sport, partially converted to Trials - i.e. it has a single seat, trials bars, trials alloy mudguards.
Has 20" wheels front and back, have new 18" rear and 21" front tyres.
Original engine and frame.
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
I know with my Mont, and with friends Mont's the stock plates do this also, but swapping them out for plates supplied by Haven Trialsport the problem goes away 100%.
Maybe they have plates for Sherco also.

Thanks......I've emailed MH so we'll see what develops......from the look of their site it's looking promising.

Hi,
1999 Mont.
My front suspension bottoms out rather easily.
The front is a tad soft.
The pre-load is screwed fully down.
I'm no heavyweight.
I asked Sandifords if perhaps my front spring was getting weak.....however, I did mention to them that the pre-load has always needed to be well screwed in....even from brand new.
They said perhaps the wrong weight oil was in the forks which can have the effect I am getting. They said to put in 10wt oil.
Comments? I had originally intended to replace the spring, or make up a small spacer of my own to fit on top of the spring.
Anyways, I finally got around to ordering some much needed parts for my Mont:-
New tyre
Set of Aktive reeds.
New air-filter
Chrome front pipe.
Rear suspension bearings/bushes.
......Moving house & decorating had taken it's toll on me getting out on the bike (6 months lay off!)......but I should be back on the hill in no time now!
Anybody know who can re-build rear shocks?

According to Men & Motors Thurs 8th:-
"A chance to see the trials worlds top riders, in cities such as Paris, Madrid, Hong Kong, St. Petersburg & Barcelona. Results are based on the rider's skill & regularity"
.....now what their toilet habits have to do with it I don't know!

When you pull the bike out the van, start it up and let it tick-over (with the odd small rev up) for a good 10 minutes. Don't rev it much, and don't ride around on it.
What I think happens is that this allows the heat from the engine to spread to the carb and warm it up. Riding around on the bike immediately after getting it going just makes the carb get colder and colder, and once it gets down below a certain temperature it's really hard to get the heat back up again.....even if you leave it ticking over for ages.
Seems to do the trick in all but the coldest and frozen of days or unless the bike was pretty much frozen before you even started it up (read BillyT's hairdryer trick!)
You can also try wrapping an old rag around the carb and leave it there.

I took this one in 2002.........ok, it's a couple of years old already.....but ALWAYS worth looking at again!
Luvvly jubbly!

Frozen carb most likely............we get it every winter...........welcome to Scotland!

Shaun Morris is riding.......it was a close vote between him and Steve Colley.
I'd have preferred to see the old showman himself.........but then again, I'm an old stick in the mud.

Hi all,
I noticed that Lewisport USA sell a new head for the Mont which ups the comp. ration..........I wonder what benefit?

Also, I'm ready to try AKTIVE reeds on my '99 Mont.......does anyone know who sells them in the UK?
Cheers,

Hi all,
Year was 1993. Beta Zero (1990), engine swap in the hallway.
PS. It was 1:30am.....we'd just returned with the repaired engine from J.Lampkin's.

Hi,
Take the flywheel cover off the engine, then look inside the cover....voila!
You do not need to remove the flywheel on the Monts.

Hi,
Andy's basically got the newer version by a couple of years of what I had (I sold it)......but it's not to say you can't get reasonable pics with cheap crap.............the pic below was taken with a Canon IxusV point & shoot.
Ian.

Andy,
Well, the EX550 was fine with batteries, I did worry about it at the time (pocketfuls of spares!)......but I only need one set at Sheffield and even then the battery indicator never lit.
Your Sheffield pics will be fine........just get as close as you bloomin' can to the bikes, open the lens wide and let the Canon flash do it's thang!
PS. Be prepared to wrestle for position with the other photographers as well as those pesky video boys.
Ian.
-
.............sometimes though, there ain't much to pre-focus on.....so you take your chances.
Ian.

Hi all,
I'm looking forward to seeing Andy's Sheffield pics......he's got the equipment to get good pics, including the fantastic Canon EX550 flash.
Pics below were both ISO400, F3.5, 125thsec.
Yup!, pre-focus is the order of the day.......

Hi all,
I've got an Epson Photo 1270 which is A3 prints at 1440 dpi.
I believe it's been superceeded by the 1290 which is 2880dpi, but from the reports I hear you don't get nothing like double the quality just coz it's 2880dpi......
Anyway, A3 prints are great, but you really need a digicam of around 6mp or greater to be able to make best use of it, all you end up doing is stretching the pixels out to fit the A3 page.
Printing at A4 however, is just gorgeous.......but only providing you get the right paper. The Epson paper is one of the best, but TIP: you can get away with cheaper paper and still get just gorgeous prints if you print at half-speed.
I have A4 prints (and some A3) from the World Outdoor and Indoor rounds I attended (Andy: not to mention some of Mandy!) framed and mounted on my wall here at home.
Back to A3 prints again, you can get better results than original (what?) if you use an app called "Genuine Fractals". What you do is take your 3 or 4mb digital photo pic and intelligently extrapolate it out to any size you like (pixels & size), jut as if you had a bigger/better camera in the first place. Send the new file to your printer (say at A3) and the results are better than original.
If anyone wants an A4 print to evaluate the print quality then I'll be glad to send it to them (UK only).
Ian.
