    Repsol 4rt

just seen the new repsol 4rt yesterday, open the crate and the only difference is the stickers! you have gotta do all of the upgrading yourself. but there aint half some fancy gizmo's to go with it, the alluminium billet footpegs weigh nout, the fancy carbon fibre bits also weigh nout, and look the business too. however the thing that struck me was that on the case for the fuel injection mapping C.D they call it by its japanese name!!! are they trying to say that they already have these gadgets out in japan? or that a company as big and powerfull as honda could not be bothered to change a C.D cover!!! i know its a minor detail, and the bike on the hole seems just fine, but i think that something like that shouldnt happen if not just to inspire confidence in the bike, i am suer that you all remember the last major minor detail that was overlooked, the kickstart return stop! catch my drift? anyway, enough of my waffle, would like to hear from anyone who gets one what it is like, and honestly wether it rides any differently to the standard 4rt.

    New Beta

just seen the new 2006 beta yesterday, looks great i suppose, if you can really change te look dramatically on the same bike. the thing that suprised me is that the plastices are matt black, from pictures i thought they were going to be silver again with different stickers. the headlamp, unbelievable, looks even worse that before, i think they must have been watching a documentary on the stealth fighter jet when they designed it. but in general it does seem to be the same old beta with a few new stickers.
  3. that may be so, but i swear that they have some form of anti-gravity button on their bikes. i thought that maybe the button on the new gassers was exactly that, i suppose i can keep on dreaming.
  4. no stop slightly benefits the 2 strokes, as the bikes are much lighter they are far easier for the fiders to flick and hop about whilst holding forward momentum.
  5. yea i used a fast action when i had my 4RT, made the bike react quicker (duh!) which is necessary on those things, but you did have to keep over the back a bit more as it likes to spin.

    Traction Switch?!

i do have the new bike and hve experimented wih the different settings. i have found that like matt says it only takes effect when you are revving it hard. althopught still the difference is slight, i have had my bike for a while now and hove still not noteced enough difference to say it is worth it, however i do think for sure that the whole ignition system is better that last years regardless of the switch. i hope you love your new toy, i know i do.
  8. 'tis very skill full, i just cant understand how they land it without goin fliying. (or in colleys case at hawkstone he just opted for the flying style)
  9. it could be this, or it could be the kickstart idle gear, i know my dads went at the weekend, but dont panic, you can still ride with it, so long as it doesnt get into the wrong places it wont do any damage to the bike, only to your mind . but still, if it DOES get into the wrong places it could be costly, get it into your nearest gg dealer and get it looked at.
  10. with the cluth, make sure that your foot its on the back brake, whilst you put it into gear, this ofter works, you may need yo pick the revs up a litle though. if it doesnt work first time then it is almost 100% sure to work second. as for fuel, and kind will do, as for oil go for motul, find it runs much cleaner that most others.
  11. Perce, when does marking out start, i am free saturdays and sundays(providing no trial on) and also friday afternoons(if any use).

    Ssdt

i haven't got my own experiences to talk about, but i have those of others. it doesnt matter how good a rider you are, you could be adam raga, but if you arent fit enough to keep riding at a reasonable pace for 6 days of solid riding with no time to slack, then you will be dissapointed with your result. anybody can ride the scottish, and do OK in the sections, because they aren't, on the whole, that hard. the deciding factor as to whether or not you will get a decent result is often whether or not you can ride at a level near to your best for 6 days of gruelling terrain and the possible/likely mind destroying wether that is so often associated with fort william around May each year. the key to success in an event as demanding as this is preparation, both physical and mental. "when the going gets tough, you gotta keep going"
  13. all of these techniques are good, and be sure to technosel the whole thing including swingarms (you can quite easilly wear off the gold paint on these with your boots) however, a slightly more simple way is to either go to your local bike dealer, if they supply it, and buy some "muck off". great stuff, just get the bulk of the mess off it, spray the bike with "muck off", leave it for 5 mins, then spray it off aiding with a brush. just a thought though, you said you are a novice, WHY DID YOU GET A RAGA REP???
  14. yes perce its a 250, and i aint sure about the ignition, although i am sure that in the near future al-the-spanner will have found out anything about it that there is to know. will try to remember to keep you updated.
  15. as some of you may know, the new, 2006, gas gas is here. i have been blessed with its charms, and my verdict, UNBELIEVABLE!!!, i really thought that the lads out there in girona had it cracked last year, and then they manage to come up with this. as if the ohlins shocker wasnt enough! theyre jsut spoiling us with the new ignition, and as for the new forks! i just cant see what they can do next year. so, the bike runs as sweet as a nut out of the box, and that shocker is smooth as i dont know what. with a bit of bling added in the form of a keihin carb she gracefully flows through the sections. withe that extra kilo taken from the front you can see immediately that it is easier to hop (as if it needed to be), the only thing that seems irrelivant is the difference between the two igniton settings. dont get me wrong the new ignition is a vast improvement over an already good peice of technology, but i just fail to see the difference between the settings themselves. now if anyone went to the fryupdale trial yesterday held by guisborough motor club the you wll know that the sections werent all that hard, and that i didnt perform all to well, but that was just me being me and the stroke like effects of my crash whilst running the bike in on saturday . as for the bike its self it ran like a dream, i never had any problems with it. it took in its stride anything that was thrown at it. i really cant rate this years bike highly enough, and if you dont believe me, (or have just skipped all of my waffel) then get yourself a go on one, and i promise you will not be dissapointed.
  16. i had a 4rt for about four months earlier this year, i thought that it is the most enjoyable bike to ride if you can manage to get away with it. however enjoyable yes, but i just didnt find it as competitive as a 2 stroke, it is just that little bit heavier and that little bit slower that means that your energy levels go down muich quicker. also what many people have commented on is the ehat, these bikes must run at least twice as hot as the 2 strokes and that is a killer factor if you are doing a trial on a hot day, fortunately i had mine through the end of winter and spring, and i am in england so we dont see much heat anyway, but a good friend has just got rid of his after a really hot trial and you could see the heat waves coming off the bike it was so hot. as a clubmans bike, test ride it, if you can get away with it, great, go for it. but as a hard course bike, it takes a very very special sort of rider to manage to keep up with the bike all the while adapting their technique. final verdict, i am having the first ride out on my new 2006 gas gas tomorrow, so work it out for yourself.
  17. official spec shouldnt have changed, in which case the final version wil come with the orange wheels. personal opinion is that they will look c**p after 2 or 3 trials anyway so might aswell have standard.
  18. you do get pistons in a repair kit
  19. yea, once you have passed your test you are limited to 33bhp, this meands that you could ride a restricted R1 althought it wouldnt ride at all. seeing as though a trials bike is all bottom end power, and very tourqey they are very low bhp so are legal to ride on road once you pass your test. however, riding around on a trials bike you will get pulled ten times a day by the police, so to avoid penalties you must keep on everything down to the mirrors and indicators in order for it to be road legal.
  20. 4rt is amazing in the mud, untill u take out the spark arrester. then it changes the bikes performance in slippery conditions a helll of a lot. for with the spark arrester in that you just stick it in 1st , lean back, and stear it. couldnt find an easier bike to ride when its wet, but then once you need to do bigger things, it just ddnt perform for me, so i got another gasser, brought my newly found four stroke technique to it, and ride it better than ever!!

    Chain Problems

you have probably just put your split link on the wrong way swo when you have bashed it against a rock it has come apart, then later, after a bit of wear and tear its jut snapped the link. not an uncommen problem i've have it happen to me twice this year. just got to be careful when putting the link on that you put the pin on it right so that if the chain hits a rock whilst spinning round it cant flick it off. Of course it may just be because you have a knackered chain. in which case jsut keep replacing it, and oil them regularly. not much more to do really.
  22. not too clued up as to what the french 4 day is like, be the reeth three day WILL be an absolute cracker, but must warn any clubmen riders having a go that the clubmen sections may be considered a little tough in places.

    New Sherco 200

dont know where you have heard that rumor, but rathmells still import the 200, just because there is less interest in the youth catagory with the 125 ruling, doesnt mean that ther isnt still many clubmen that like a good old 200. as ishy says they probably wont get them in regularly but should always have a couple in and ready to distribute to wherever the demand is for one.
  24. there was talk up here recently of somebody making some cota 4rt rear mudguards, out of the same stuff as washing up bowls so that they were much more pliable and durable. havent heard anything since, but if they cotton on then there is no reason why not to make guards for all models. if anyone was likely to do it other than a big company like UFO etc. i would have thought that YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. 25. why do you want to donuts anyway? it just knackers your tyres up. but if you are dead set on it then find flat ground that is slippery enough, but not too slippery, otherwise you will be all over the place, lean right over the front of the bike, and slightly lean the bike whilst keeping you body upright or eve a little to the opposite direction of the bike, this will prevent you from just falling flat like you see so many people do.it is probably best to start trying them anti-clockwise as this allows you to hold your left foot out just in case you should start to slide out, whilst keepin your right foot covering the back brake to adjust the speed at which the wheel is spinning. also, although not absolutely necessary, it somtimes helps to have the front wheel in opposite lock to the direction of the bike.
